ICE Detains High School Theater Director, Israel Strikes WHO Site, and CEOs love Bruce Harrell

Trump Is Afraid of Teachers: Last week, ICE arrested and detained Fernando Rocha, a theater manager at Juanita High School in Kirkland. His lawyer told the Seattle Times that Rocha entered the US on a tourist visa in 2018, and before it expired, he applied for asylum. The case is still pending. Meanwhile, ICE Seattle claimed on Twitter that Rocha was wanted in Brazil for theft, a claim that his family in Brazil called “outlandish.”

Anyone got experience with Ducky keyboards?

For some reason or another, a whole third of all mechanical keyboards in the biggest local computer retailer's online store, are Ducky. Probably because they have ISO and ANSI layouts, a lot of colors, different sizes, and different switches. And they're ordered from abroad when bought, not stocked locally. So loads of choice and no cost showing them as available.

So since my only real options here if I want a full keyboard or TKL with blue switches are a couple of different Ducky models (one 3, Shine 7) in various colors, I'm wondering if anyone has personal experience with Ducky? I've read both praise and hate online, so can't really make heads or tails of the quality.

in reply to boonhet

they’re fine as long as you want a big standard, mass produced mechanical keyboard. Personally I would go with Keycron if I was looking for that as they have more options and seem to be a company run by genuine keyboard nerds.

Convoy meets Death Wish

Summary

Little Joey Rosso's family gets smushed by a big rig cuz of the dickhead sons of Tiny Doyle (Ned Beatty doing his best Alvin Stardust impression). But little do they know what Little Joe has been building in the barn...

Rolling Vengeance - Little Joe's Monster Truck

If you can make it through the slow first half, things get fun in the second. Surprisingly ungory for an exploitation revenge flick. But still the best movie there is for seeing Confederate-flag-wearing-motherf%$kers getting run down by a monster truck.

Rolling Vengeance - you can run, racist scum, but you can't OUTrun

Looks like it was filmed where Smallville / Supernatural were, with the colour palette of a wet 2-day old Denny's Grand Slam breakfast.

NPR's editor in chief and acting chief content officer Edith Chapin told colleagues Tuesday morning that she has decided to step down.

The veteran news leader's announcement comes just days after the Republican-led Congress, driven largely by President Trump's claims of liberal bias at NPR, voted to strip public broadcasting of all federal funding.

Once again, for those in the cheap seats: If you want to know why journalism -- real journalism -- is perceived as having a liberal slant, it's because our fucking job is to question everything.

Journalism is not toeing the party line. It's not holding back on investigations because someone in power might get pissed off.

That's the job.

Trump pulls US out of UN cultural agency UNESCO for second time

>"President Trump has decided to withdraw the United States from UNESCO – which supports woke, divisive cultural and social causes that are totally out-of-step with the commonsense policies that Americans voted for in November," White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly said.

UNESCO was one of several international bodies Trump withdrew from during his first term, along with the World Health Organization, the Paris Agreement global climate change accord and the U.N. Human Rights Council. During his second term, he has largely reinstated those steps.

in reply to ExtremeDullard

UNESCO, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, is a specialized agency dedicated to strengthening our shared humanity through the promotion of education, science, culture, and communication.

We set standards, produce tools and develop knowledge to create solutions to some of the greatest challenges of our time, and foster a world of greater equality and peace.

Protecting biodiversity, responding to artificial intelligence, advancing quality education, safeguarding heritage, and ensuring access to reliable information are some examples of the work that UNESCO does with its 194 Member States across the globe.

Yup, the U.S. does not (currently) align with any of that.

Argon ONE UP is modular laptop powered by a Raspberry Pi CM5

The makers of the Argon ONE line of accessories for Raspberry Pi computers have built a business around designing cases that add or change some key functions of the little computers by, for example, moving all of the ports to one side.

But the upcoming Argon ONE UP takes things to the next level. It’s a laptop computer that uses a Raspberry Pi 5 Compute Module for brains, which makes it a […]

Seattle's Primary Season Is Upon Us, Trump Wants Sports to Be Racist Again, and Scientists Figured Out How Snakes Eat Bones

Free Gui: Guilherme “Gui” Silva, a Brazilian immigrant, lawyer, and muralist, was detained by ICE earlier this month on San Juan Island in Washington state. Silva was a lawyer in Brazil, and moved to the US about eight years ago to pursue his art. He has a four-year-old daughter with his now ex-wife, and is expecting a child in just a few months with his wife Rachel Leidig. Two Fridays ago, masked ICE agents followed Silva from his home in unmarked vehicles, pulled him from his car, confiscated his cellphone, and detained him. When he asked to see an arrest warrant, they refused. Silva is married to an American citizen and is currently in legal proceedings to apply for a green card. The only blemish on his record that the Seattle Times was able to find was a $100 speeding ticket. The Department of Homeland Security said they detained him because he overstayed his tourist visa, which, let’s say it again together: is a civil violation.

Texas Lawmakers Largely Ignored Recommendations Aimed at Helping Rural Areas Like Kerr County Prepare for Flooding

in reply to TheImpressiveX

It is a really good game...

People complain about engagement weighted matches, but COD literally puts you in easier lobbies after buying a skin and then slowly winds the advantage down till you buy a new one

That's predatory as fuck.

As far as "free" multiplayer games go, there's not a lot of overt monetization and plenty of free shit.

in reply to givesomefucks

That’s an extremely bold claim to make, any evidence whatsoever or just kind of throwing it out there at random?

It was the unmarked bots they put into matches to fill slots and give you a free win that made me quit. If I’m going to play a pvp gametype I want to pvp. They’re not in ranked at least as far as I know but I can’t crossplay with my friends in ranked so there’s no point.
in reply to Chronographs

I mean, a bot match should be such a steamroll that you don't even realize it till after. 5, 10 minutes tops.

I do hate that ranked doesn't have cross play.

I hang out in plat on PC easily and I use a PS5 controller (with back buttons), but according to the popup when you rank, that's in the top 15%. And I'm straight up old at this point, if I can do it so can the kids all hopped up on mountain dew. Sure, it's not as accurate as a mouse, but movement is way better than with a keyboard.

It's a tradeoff either way. So I don't get why everyone freaks out about mouse/keyboard in competitive and wants to split console from PC.

in reply to givesomefucks

Yeah I mean once I knew that bot matches were a thing it was obvious and I quit shortly after. I just assumed it was matching me with lower elo players or something. You get so much assistance with controller at least in some games it can be a straight up advantage so yeah idk. I was fine just playing unranked with my console friends but there’s no way to turn off bots then.
in reply to TheImpressiveX

Could be if you irritate your kids long enough, they'll just lie to you so you'll leave them alone.

in reply to TheImpressiveX

Yeah they should put a leather outfit on LaKeith Stanfield, give him a sword, and then just film. You might not get Blade, but you'll get something great

Pregnant Woman in Tennessee Denied Care for Being Unmarried

Last night at a town hall in Jonesborough, Tennessee, a woman shared her story: she was denied prenatal care by her OB-GYN because the doctor objected to the fact that she isn’t married. She’s been with her partner for 15 years and has a 13-year-old son.

The doctor told her that because she was unwed, they didn’t feel comfortable treating her because it went against their “Christian values.”

Now, she’s traveling out of state to Virginia to receive prenatal care.

On one hand. People in rural areas don't have a lot of options for doctors.
On the other, you don't really want care from a doctor who doesn't think you should be getting it, and has to be forced.
in reply to Steve

And so the doctor should lose the license and be prosecuted.
in reply to Steve

Good. Let them drown in their medical (edit: school) debt.

If there were consequences for refusing care, then fewer hateful bigots would apply, and more of the highly competitive spots in medical training programs would go to better prospective doctors.

There can be no tolerance for intolerance in a just society.

This entry was edited (2 weeks ago)
in reply to blindsight

Who's drowning in medical debt?
The patients that'll die on their 4+ hour drive to the nearest doctor, because you took away their bigot of a doctor without having a replacement?
How many deaths would be acceptable sacrifices to get rid of one bigot? Seriously what would the number be?

Or do you mean medical school debt? I hope you mean medical school debt.

Obviously the least damaging option, would be keeping the bigot in place until someone else can step into the role.

This entry was edited (2 weeks ago)
in reply to Steve

I meant medical school debt, yeah. I forget medical debt is a thing, as a non-American.
in reply to Steve

"there aren't enough doctors, so we should accept bigotry" is not a convincing argument. Too "whataboutism" for me.

You're not wrong that medical care scarcity is a real issue, but what if we just work to solve BOTH problems?

Edit; a letter, a word

This entry was edited (1 week ago)
in reply to ɔiƚoxɘup

Well yah. That's what I'm saying. You need to get a replacement, then get rid of the bigot. Solving both problems.
in reply to Steve

Yeah that. Scarcity of care needs fixed too, then we can shitcan the bigots with rekless abandon! 💛
in reply to LassCalibur

Imagine meeting your god who tells you to love thy neighbor and explain to him this "unwed harlot" came in looking for professional help to care for her child that im sure you would have encouraged her to keep and you went naaa and thought he be cool with it.

That's certainly possible, plausible even. But it's far from certain.

Broadcast TV has been bleeding viewers for nearly two decades now. The same article this one cites to say Colbert was #1 in its time slot also says, in the last quarter all the late night shows lost 7-8% of their audience. Colbert lost 17% among younger viewers. That's just the last quarter alone. That's a crazy drop.

And remember they aren't just canceling Colbert, but the entire The Late Show altogether. One of their cornerstone programs for I don't even know how many decades.

Also, If they were canceling The Late Show just because Rump wanted them to, he wouldn't accept having to wait a whole year for it. He'd want it now.

So I actually do believe it was a purely financial decision. Colbert's contract probably ends with the the next season, and rather than giving him another raise for a show that's bleeding viewers, it makes sense to just let it all end.

This entry was edited (2 weeks ago)
in reply to Steve

....and the late show was the only one getting larger and larger viewership.

Financially, the cancelation makes no sense.

Edit: Just to provide some reference to the viewership

Second-quarter Nielsen ratings show that the program helmed by comedian Stephen Colbert had 2.42 million viewers across 41 new episodes, taking some 9% of the audience share and besting other shows in his timeslot. It was also the only show to rake in more viewers than in the previous quarter. And earlier this week, it received a Primetime Emmy nomination for outstanding talk series. - Source

Relative viewer counts aren't the whole story. It also matters how much they cost, and how much they revenue they bring in. Late night TV has been doing terribly overall. The Late Show specifically is apparently losing $40M this year.
in reply to Steve

The practice named "Hollywood accounting" is infamous for claiming losses.
in reply to ranandtoldthat

Right, but this isn't Hollywood. The specifics of Hollywood accounting don't really work for ongoing television programs. It requires the short term nature of movie production.
in reply to Steve

That’s one hell of a coincidence given all the 60 Minutes drama with resigning producers, lawsuits and settlements, and the Skydance merger.

Also it’s the number one late night show. Why aren’t the other networks cancelling their less successful late night shows?

All seems a bit odd to me.

in reply to jaybone

It certainly could be a coincidence that they were told to canceled a show that's also loosing them $40M.
in reply to Steve

That article is also from just a few days ago. Very convenient. Can you find an older article?

Why are all the other networks not losing all of this money on their late night shows which have lower ratings?

in reply to jaybone

They probably have substantially lower budgets.
Late night shows can be very cheep to produce. It might just be The Late Show with a frankly insane $100M budget. If they cut that in half, they'd be profitable.

A MAGA bot network on X is divided over the Trump-Epstein backlash

in reply to TheImpressiveX

I agree, it's not Superhero fatigue, it's audiences changing what we want out of a Superhero movie.

Everything leading up to Endgame was the same formula but audiences knew it was leading to something big. Now that it's over, it's much harder to tolerate the formula.

I believe, for these movies to be successful, it has to be about the journey and not the destination because we all know the destination. But it also has to be marketed well to reflect the change.

I thought Thunderbolts* was a terrific example of the story not being about the last fight but it wasn't marketed well to reflect that.

Superman, on the other hand, did a really nice job of this. In particular, Lois, talking to Clark, saying she wants to interview Superman, and then going hard on him showed me this was going to be about more than a good guy punching a bad guy.

in reply to AZX3RIC

Perfect response.

Superman was a wonderful commentary on society today while also giving us hope and someone/thing to aspire to.

in reply to AZX3RIC

Really gold comment. I don't get the thunderbolts part tho. It was marketed a lot, had big name actors and of characters that very pretty active in the marketing yet it still flopped. I dont understand what people want. I understand Superman because it's the first movie of the new dcu and James gunn has a good record.
in reply to TheImpressiveX

Interesting that Feige is giving a big interview to media now.

Sounds like they want to ensure that people watch Fantastic Four. And that they know they don't need to watch anything else beforehand.

I also wonder if the New Avengers performance caught them offguard and Marvel was anticipating better numbers.
