changing its name to My Source News Opinion World, or MS NOW for short

the writers of this season of Reality are apparently just reusing jokes that 30 Rock left on the cutting room floor

in reply to spit_evil_olive_tips

In 2018, a woman named.... Reality Winner... yes for real, whistleblew the fact that Russian hackers got their hands on US voter rolls ahead of the 2016 election and was sent to prison for this.

So I'm pretty sure she won Reality already and we're all on the cutting room floor right now.

in reply to akosgheri

What an idiotic name change. There's absolutely no reason to keep a legacy Microsoft connection to a rebrand. News Opinion World sounds like it should be a late-stage Simpsons joke.

in reply to Sunshine

The poultry project has been pitched as an integrated solar and chicken farm, a new land use practice known as agrivoltaics. But agrivoltaics projects typically pitch a vision somewhat resembling animals grazing underneath solar panels — not hundreds of thousands of confined chickens packed into sheds.

Just another developer trying to green wash their bullshit.

Move over TESCREAL, R9PRESENTATIONALism is here.

As found by @gerikson here, more from the anti anti TESCREAL crowd. How the antis are actually R9PRESENTATIONALism. Ottokar expanded on their idea in a blog post.

Original link.

I have not read the bigger blog post yet btw, just assumed it would be sneerable and posted it here for everyone's amusement. Learn about your own true motives today. (This could be a troll of course, boy does he drop a lot of names and thinks that is enough to link things).

Nazi banners hung on exterior of Heath High School; investigation underway

Sensitive content

in reply to Powderhorn

I have seen and held a Nazi banner exactly once in my life, and I will inherit it. My grandfather was in WWII, and his division "liberated" a flag and banner factory, with the GIs taking souvenirs.

I was probably 7 or 8 at the time, but it was visceral. I don't remember why Mom showed it to me, just that it exuded evil, for lack of a better term. Once I knew where it was hidden, I could have gone back but never did. Touching that shit for five seconds was enough.

in reply to Sunshine

KTLA also called this situation a "standoff" in its reporting, implying that the family had taken some action to threaten officers, which they absolutely did not.

Also, credit to the San Bernardino Sheriff's department for their involvement in this incident. Once called, they followed the law (they did not assist federal officers in an immigration enforcement capacity) & they advocated to federal officers to de-escalate the situation.

in reply to Sunshine

Masked men surround car demanding they get out of the vehicle. Declare themselves as border control.

Occupants ask to see border controls identification. They deny the request and attempt to force their way into the truck.

driver floors it not knowing if they are actually border control. Both parties exchange gunfire as the civilians escape. Civilians call the police reporting the incident.

ICE then will continue to cry saying "we're being attacked! Waaah everyone is mean to us"

Oh I've been looking for an easier to setup wireguard! I have been reluctantly using Tailscale since PiVPN dev had to take a step back. Tailscale is just too much other stuff. I just need to be an IP ony LAN, I don't need all the other stuff.

in reply to t3rmit3

Realistically, I don’t think trump is getting what he wants out of all this, normalization is not the goal, none of this is particularly exceptional in regards to how the national guard has been used in the pass. Situations like the battle of blair mountain for example.

Far more likely he’s trying to instigate chaos, create news stories he can spin to his base about how out of control things are, attempt to justify to them further consolidation of power, as well as create a plausibly deniable excuse to invoke legitimately more extreme measures like the insurrection act that would let him straight up ignore PC.

Why a Court Order to Block Internet Archive's Open Library Was Put On Hold

cross-posted from: programming.dev/post/35786710

Site-blocking orders are usually binary; a court issues an order for a domain to be blocked, or it does not. In Belgium, things work differently. After we reported on a court order that compelled ISPs to block access to the Internet Archive's Open Library, a follow-up implementation order decided otherwise. Rightsholders, the authorities, and the Archive are now discussing how to move forward.

Sandra Bullock – „Das Netz“ (1995)

!Libranet Support

Looking at my profile page at libranet.de/profile/vpbroman with either chrome or vivaldi browsers, I see my last three posts in some strange zombified state, where the content is rendered, but displayed in grayed out (actually partially whitened) form, with the control buttons at the bottom unresponsive, and the indenting different from my other posts. The last post is minimal, simple.
The first post with this problem has appeared this way for a couple of weeks. The other posts are tests to see whether the problem was due to the post being lengthy.

I posted the article because I thought some might find it interesting, I don't agree with the contents in the article myself. I agree with your take. But I think it's important to at least read what ideas are being put forward and to drive duscussion.

Trump’s cold brew: New York coffee shops warn of higher prices amid steep tariffs

The Trump administration has targeted Brazil with steep US tariffs of 50%. Coffee shops in the heart of New York are bracing for impact.

When the Trump administration announced another wave of sweeping tariffs, particularly on Brazil, Stone Street Cafe’s managing partner was first confused. Then came fear. A cafe already runs on slim margins and extra costs passed on from tariffs could risk everything.

“If these tariffs are long term, it will put our business in jeopardy,” Antony Garrigues, managing partner of Stone Street Cafe, said. “In New York City, the operating costs are already so high, and these tariffs will make everything much more expensive.

“In the end, if people cannot afford our coffee, and we do not have a profit margin, we will not make it.”

Dozens of rural newspapers shut down in latest disappearance of local journalism

A nitpick to start: 23 is not "dozens." I'll grant that at 24. "More than a score" is unlikely to land with modern audiences but would have the advantage of being accurate.

Facing deep financial troubles, News Media Corporation shut down 23 news operations in five states. The closures are just the latest in a trend contributing to news deserts in rural America. Stephanie Sy discussed what this means for the future of local news with Teri Finneman, a journalism professor at the University of Kansas and co-author of "Reviving Rural News."

From the NY Times:

After three hours of talks, President Trump and President Vladimir Putin of Russia told reporters that they had made progress on unspecified issues, but they gave no details, took no questions, and most importantly failed to announce a cease-fire of any kind.

The meeting broke up several hours before scheduled, and far short of the six or seven hours of discussions that Mr. Putin’s aides said they expected for the talks. The fact that they took no questions made it clear they did not want to be pressed on details.

Indigenous Communities From Southern Mexico Refuse to Bow to ICE in California

In many agricultural fields of the West Coast of the United States, you’re more likely to hear Mixtec or Triqui languages spoken than Spanish. Both are common among the Indigenous people of southern Mexico, some of whom now pick grapes for Napa and Sonoma County’s prestige wineries, or apples in century-old orchards. Without their labor, rural economies in California would collapse.

Exposing docker socket to a container

Do you guys expose the docker socket to any of your containers or is that a strict no-no? What are your thoughts behind it if you don't? How do you justify this decision from a security standpoint if you do?

I am still fairly new to docker but I like the idea of something like Watchtower. Even though I am not a fan of auto-updates and I probably wouldn't use that feature I still find it interesting to get a notification if some container needs an update. However, it needs to have access to the docker socket to do its work and I read a lot about that and that this is a bad idea which can result in root access on your host filesystem from within a container.

There are probably other containers as well especially in this whole monitoring and maintenance category, that need that privilege, so I wanted to ask how other people handle this situation.

Cheers!

@selfhosted I found #regctl github.com/regclient/regclient Using it a made a script to check and compare the sha1 of any image locally with the remote ones, then act accordingly
docker images --digests foo/foo <a class="hashtag" data-tag="for" href="https://fe.disroot.org/tag/for" rel="tag ugc">#for</a> the locally one
regctl manifest head foo/foot <a class="hashtag" data-tag="for" href="https://fe.disroot.org/tag/for" rel="tag ugc">#for</a> the remote one
in reply to 5ymm3trY

I use Podman with Diun (like Watchtower but no auto-updates) and I think that's the only time I've had to mount the socket into the container. Maybe also CrowdSec. Podman is rootless so I feel a bit better about it.

It's interesting because the person was looking for work, I thought ICE said they were going after criminals?
