Eric Adams advisor Winnie Greco handed a reporter cash stuffed in a bag of potato chips
Eric Adams Advisor Winnie Greco Handed a CITY Reporter Cash Stuffed in a Bag of Potato Chips
THE CITY reported the incident to law enforcement and was promptly contacted by the Brooklyn U.S. attorney’s office.Greg B. Smith (THE CITY - NYC News)
like this
the funniest explanation I've seen, and therefore the one I'm choosing to believe is true (credit to this Bluesky post from *checks notes* Sen. Lemon Gogurt)
the reporter is from a local NYC outlet called "The City"
this advisor was probably told she'd be meeting up with someone from "the city" and she was supposed to give them cash for something
Brill denied that his client’s payment to THE CITY reporter was nefarious in any way.“I can see how this looks strange,” Brill said. “But I assure you that Winnie’s intent was purely innocent. In the Chinese culture, money is often given to others in a gesture of friendship and gratitude. Winnie is apologetic and embarrassed by any negative impression or confusion this may have caused.”
incredible. absolutely incredible. Saul Goodman would be proud. claiming it's "Chinese culture" to hand people money concealed in potato chip bags.
Everything in this story is gold!
Which, in Chinese culture is often seen as good fortune.
How much can I extend an OrderedCollection?
Just an idle thought... A common UX is users copying the URL in the address bar and pasting it into their fediverse app to load it in their app.
Right now if you copy a NodeBB topic (/topic/12345
) and paste it into something like Mastodon, you'll get nothing because it is an ordered collection and it doesn't know how to handle it.
But... what if I passed in a preview
property a la evan@cosocial.ca's b2b8 and it contained a Note
? Maybe a note with a different id
? Maybe with a name
?
Waiting for trwnh@mastodon.social to tell me this is a terrible idea.
Dead simple document host?
I have a bunch of plain text recipe files on a NAS.
If a family member wants to cook something, they ask me to print them a copy.
I’m looking for a simple as possible way to put them on a local web server via a Docker image or similar.
Basically all I need is to have recipes.local/ show the list of files, then you can click one to view and or print it.
Don’t want logins. Don’t need ability to edit files.
Want something read-only I can set and forget while I continue to manage the content directly on the NAS.
What would you suggest?
If you are familiar with #docker you can use #copyparty as simple as this:
docker pull copyparty/im && docker stop copyparty_photos && docker rm copyparty_photos
docker run -d -p 12345:12345 --name copyparty_photos \
--restart unless-stopped \
-v /path/to/photos/:/w \
-v /root/.config/copyparty:/cfg \
copyparty/im \
--https-only -nih -p 12345 \
--localtime \
--nos-hdd \
--grid \
--theme=6 \
-v /w::r,guest:rd,admin \
-a guest:pw1234 \
-a admin:anotherpw5678 \
--ipu=1.2.3.4/32=admin
TL;DR:
Path/to/photos = where your files are stored
-p 12345:12345 = Port to expose
Use https only!
User guest with PW can read
User Admin with PW can read and delete
Autologin as admin if coming from IP 1.2.3.4

Target CEO to step down amid company struggles
Although Walmart retreated from its diversity initiatives first, Target has been the focus of more concerted consumer boycotts. Organizers have said they viewed Target’s action as a greater betrayal because the company previously had held itself out as a champion of inclusion. In 2023, a customer backlash over the annual line of LGBTQ+ Pride merchandise Target carried also cut into sales.

Fiddelke said he would step in as CEO with three urgent priorities: reclaiming the company’s position as a leader in selecting and displaying merchandise; improving the customer experience by making sure shelves are consistently stocked and stores are clean; and investing in technology.
This is a load of nothing. Wake me up when they commit to something real and praiseworthy.

need help on old CRT tv
hi there, wondering if I could get some help here:
I have an old CRT tv black and white, I've plugged it to an HDMI/composite to RF modulator HDM69
It used to work some time ago but can't find out why it doesn't anymore
When I don't plug anything it seems alright (but not sure it really is) but as soon as I plus HDMI or composite my tv doesn't display things right
Notice that it works on my modern tv
Here is a video showing what's happening
Any ideas ? ❤

FDA warns public not to eat possibly radioactive shrimp sold at Walmart
FDA warns public not to eat possibly radioactive shrimp sold at Walmart
No shrimp that tested positive has entered the U.S. food supply, the FDA said.Sony Salzman (ABC News)
To be honest; I would imagine that the Cs-137 is a product of illegal fishing. Fishermen are told not to fish in contaminated areas; but may do so anyways out of desperation for a catch they can sell.
I remember nuclear disasters near SE Asia and Japan over the last decade. It is also true that Shrimp are also, not so unimportantly, Bottom-Feeders. As Bottom of the Ocean feeders. They literally hoover up the soil at the bottom of the ocean and eat the microbiological life living there. With recent nuclear disasters; I think it's possible some orphan Cesium got down there.
Naturally this is just my theory; based on my limited college educated knowledge of biology and the food web.
I do not expect the news or the government to tell the truth about the findings in general.
Nuclear stuff is still, to this date in the USA, treated as "Sensitive Information" which may be "Classified" under a number of laws which require gagging/nondisclosure/censorship under the guise of "protecting our National Security."
My partner is a former employee in that sector. The amount of information that could be ordered to be protected in this way is likely more than you'd expect.
Furthermore the article clearly states:
Testing on frozen shrimp from the distributor, Indonesia's BMS Foods, also tested positive, the FDA said.
The shrimp was in fact contaminated. But as a precaution; with anything Radioactive, it is always presumed that anything that is in contact with a contaminated object, is also in and of itself inherently contaminated.
I recommend you watch some Kyle Hill on Youtube;^1^ he explains clearly how these things work. Radioactive contamination is no joke. It is handled with this level of caution for a reason. It kills people quickly if left unaddressed.
^1^ - I wish I could explain which "Half-Life Histories" episodes are most relevant; but I cannot. They all are; they all describe nuclear disasters and they all contain good explanations about what happened and how they're contaminating things and such. It is much to watch, but very informative.

NBA star Kyrie Irving memorializes Gaza’s youngest activist as his profile picture
NBA star Kyrie Irving drew attention to the ongoing violence in Gaza by changing his Instagram profile photo to honor Yaqeen Hammad, an 11-year-old Palestinian child who was killed in an 'Israeli' airstrike.
Yaqeen, recognized as Gaza’s youngest media activist, was killed on May 24, 2025, during an airstrike in the besieged enclave. Her work documenting daily life under the aggression had gained her recognition for raising awareness of the situation facing children in Gaza.
Irving’s advocacy for Palestine is not new. The NBA star has consistently used his visibility to address the conflict, often at the cost of facing criticism.

Fort Worth Democrat confined to the Texas Capitol after quorum break
> House Speaker Dustin Burrows told lawmakers that members who broke quorum could only leave the House chamber upon agreeing in writing to be released into the custody of a Texas Department of Public Safety officer tasked with ensuring their return when the House reconvenes at 10 a.m. Wednesday.
Collier, in a text message to the Star-Telegram, said she “did not agree to sign their permission slip to have a DPS officer assigned to follow me around” and said she is not free to leave the Capitol.

How do I fact-check the news (step by step)?
I have recently talked to a Chinese friend of mine who started talking about how smart Trump is etc. She previously only gained her knowledge through the Chinese media and not the “western propaganda”, so it was her first exposure to the non-CCP-controlled stuff. I told her “you sound like you read FOX news”. She replied with “hahah yes, how did you know?”
This made me realize that she is very prone to getting manipulated and not doing any fact-checking. However, this situation made me reflect on my own news-sourcing skills.
How do you deal with the issue and what can I do step-by-step to verify the news that I read myself and at the same time a way that I can recommend to my Chinese friend so that she doesn’t fall for the most obvious tricks so easily?

Understand that class war isn't something that might happen in the future - it's already happening. The moneyed class is already fighting it.
They will, given the chance, destroy us and everything we value to pay for their own undeserved privilege.
Mamdani represents an opportunity for we the people to direct some of the bounty of this nation beck to ourselves instead of all if it being stolen to pay for more mansions and bigger yachts for a handful of sociopaths, and they know it. They know that they're not going to be able to bask in the luxury for which they lust if we start electing politicians who actually represent our interests instead of theirs. And greedy, vicious, self-serving shitweasels that they are, they're going to do whatever they can to try to stop us.
