ICE Detains Disabled Veteran, Father of Two U.S. Citizens, Husband To Pro-Palestine Political Candidate, At Naturalization Interview

After a tumultuous 25 year immigration battle, ICE detained decorated, disabled veteran Zahid Chaudhry at his naturalization hearing Thursday morning, ripping him away from his two small children and his wife of 20 years. According to his family, Chaudhry is being held at the Northwest Detention Center for unknown reasons and unclear intentions. For now, his wife Melissa Chaudhry encourages community members to flood the Department of Homeland Security and the Northwest Detention Centers phone line and inboxes with the demand to free Chaudhry and naturalize him.

”He is eligible for citizenship by marriage and fatherhood, as well as long-term peaceful residence, but he claims his right by military service," a press statement reads. "He has already sworn an oath to protect and defend this country, and broken his body in service to that oath. Veterans are eligible for immediate, expedited naturalization, and Zahid deserves no less."

I've lived in a lot of midsize towns over the years and never been to a Cracker Barrel. I seriously don't know why anyone would go there, and it isn't a logo problem.

"Hey, let's go hang out with the racist rednecks" isn't a selling point.

in reply to Sunshine (she/her)

Extensive research has not ruled out that Cracker Barrel collaborated with Stanley Kubrick to fake DB Coopers moon landing (or some shizz).

Trump’s death penalty push faces setbacks as judges block efforts to reverse prior decisions

Thou shalt not kill

Eh nobody reads the bible anyway apparently. Plus, I prefer Carlin's version:

Thou shalt try real hard not to kill anyone, unless, of course, they pray to a different invisible man than the one you pray to.

You'd think someone claiming to be religious would be against the death penalty, not trying to up their K/D before leaving office. But I guess this isn't really a surprise anymore.

I feel for people who truly follow their religion. They don't deserve this association.

They don't want to pretend it didn't happen. They just want everyone to stop saying it was terrible because for their ancestors it wasn't so bad.
in reply to tangentism

No, they want to make it seem like a good thing so people don't balk at them using concentration camp prisoners as slave labor.

If anyone wants a good read, follow the link to the White House website and skim through their articles. Half read like shitty Onion-esque articles, the other half are just self-blowing in prose.

The WH article linked by this one is defending Trump being right about something. I have yet to find what statement it's trying to defend.

"It's totally because the MAGA gen-zers we're trying to reach don't like these words, guys. It's not us! We're totally fine with them, we swear!"

The effect of this language is to sound like the extreme, divisive, elitist, and obfuscatory, enforcers of wokeness.

I love how people think they're Centrist while unironically using the far-right's definition of "woke". Self-proclaimed 'centrists', like current Libertarians, are just right-wingers who don't like Trump.

ICE Agents in D.C. Coordinate with Police to Target Immigrants in Moped Traffic Stops

Hundreds of immigrants have been arrested in recent days as Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents are now accompanying D.C. police officers on traffic stops targeting delivery workers on mopeds. ICE agents are reportedly using driver’s license, registration and insurance information to determine the immigration status of people stopped by police. Over 200 immigrants have been arrested since Trump’s federal takeover of D.C., according to the White House. The shift violates D.C.'s sanctuary policies, which restrict collaboration between local police and federal immigration agencies.

Revealed: Israeli military’s own data indicates civilian death rate of 83%

Figures from a classified Israeli military intelligence database indicate five out of six Palestinians killed by Israeli forces in Gaza have been civilians, an extreme rate of slaughter rarely matched in recent decades of warfare.

As of May, 19 months into the war, Israeli intelligence officials listed 8,900 named fighters from Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad as dead or “probably dead”, a joint investigation by the Guardian, the Israeli-Palestinian publication +972 Magazine and the Hebrew-language outlet Local Call has found.

At that time 53,000 Palestinians had been killed by Israeli attacks, according to health authorities in Gaza, a toll that included combatants and civilians. Fighters named in the Israeli military intelligence database accounted for just 17% of the total, which indicates that 83% of the dead were civilians.

in reply to geneva_convenience

Where do they get that 17% ?
The Palestinian Army?
17% of 60K is about 10,000 adults (I hope) .. what are they Hamas?

Or maybe medical, emergency, municipal employees don't count as "civilians".

What they really must mean is that they were men between the ages of 16 and 50 who could potentially be resisting the massacre. They are racist enough to exclude women and children as warriors.

JD Vance booed during hamburger handout to national guard troops in DC

in reply to greenfire

The funny thing is that “old white people” is exactly who this is for. That is the demographic that cares most strongly about “crime rates in cities” despite that demographic being least likely to actually live in a city.

Some suburbanites out past Arlington might like it, but probably not enough to vote for trump since he just fired a bunch of them. This isn’t a show for the DC, Maryland, north West Virginia area. It’s a show for where their base actually lives.

in reply to megopie

This is bullshit created by Trump to push along his plan to lockdown ALL cities in martial law. Wake up, folks.

Call me when the National Guard is booing him, or does anything useful stateside ever again, really. We used to help out with flooding and such...

Right now if you copy a NodeBB topic (/topic/12345) and paste it into something like Mastodon, you'll get nothing because it is an ordered collection and it doesn't know how to handle it.

But... what if I passed in a preview property a la evan@cosocial.ca's b2b8 and it contained a Note? Maybe a note with a different id? Maybe with a name?

Waiting for trwnh@mastodon.social to tell me this is a terrible idea.

ideally, Mastodon should use `name` and `summary` for any unrecognized type
in reply to infinite love ⴳ

even more ideal would be if Mastodon could recognize that the collection was a Thread specifically, but one step at a time 😀

Target CEO to step down amid company struggles

Although Walmart retreated from its diversity initiatives first, Target has been the focus of more concerted consumer boycotts. Organizers have said they viewed Target’s action as a greater betrayal because the company previously had held itself out as a champion of inclusion. In 2023, a customer backlash over the annual line of LGBTQ+ Pride merchandise Target carried also cut into sales.

in reply to Powderhorn

To be honest; I would imagine that the Cs-137 is a product of illegal fishing. Fishermen are told not to fish in contaminated areas; but may do so anyways out of desperation for a catch they can sell.

I remember nuclear disasters near SE Asia and Japan over the last decade. It is also true that Shrimp are also, not so unimportantly, Bottom-Feeders. As Bottom of the Ocean feeders. They literally hoover up the soil at the bottom of the ocean and eat the microbiological life living there. With recent nuclear disasters; I think it's possible some orphan Cesium got down there.

Naturally this is just my theory; based on my limited college educated knowledge of biology and the food web.

in reply to Melody Fwygon

That's not really an explanation of how the containers had caesium but no shrimp tested positive, though.
in reply to Powderhorn

Oooh the containers were used to transport waste and then sold? My guess anyways
in reply to Powderhorn

I do not expect the news or the government to tell the truth about the findings in general.

Nuclear stuff is still, to this date in the USA, treated as "Sensitive Information" which may be "Classified" under a number of laws which require gagging/nondisclosure/censorship under the guise of "protecting our National Security."

My partner is a former employee in that sector. The amount of information that could be ordered to be protected in this way is likely more than you'd expect.

in reply to Powderhorn

Furthermore the article clearly states:

Testing on frozen shrimp from the distributor, Indonesia's BMS Foods, also tested positive, the FDA said.

The shrimp was in fact contaminated. But as a precaution; with anything Radioactive, it is always presumed that anything that is in contact with a contaminated object, is also in and of itself inherently contaminated.

I recommend you watch some Kyle Hill on Youtube;^1^ he explains clearly how these things work. Radioactive contamination is no joke. It is handled with this level of caution for a reason. It kills people quickly if left unaddressed.

^1^ - I wish I could explain which "Half-Life Histories" episodes are most relevant; but I cannot. They all are; they all describe nuclear disasters and they all contain good explanations about what happened and how they're contaminating things and such. It is much to watch, but very informative.
