DNSNet: an open-source system wide ad and tracker blocker for Android (no root)

I'm just sharing here this app I use always on my phone, and I don't see many people talking about it.

It's similar to DuckDuckGo app feature that block trackers across all the device, but this one is focused only on that, it also allows you to add your custom tracker URLs to block and monitor every request being made.

It's open source and available on F-Droid: f-droid.org/packages/dev.clombโ€ฆ
GitHub: github.com/t895/DNSNet

It enables a VPN to intercept requests, so it can block URLs of trackers across all your apps. The app provides a list of URLs as you open it for the first time, you can choose a few options between less or more aggressive.

Obs.: The app don't tell, but when you add a custom URL you need to disable and enable it again.

If you use a VPN service, enabling this will effectively disable the VPN. If I were @fdroidorg I'd post a big fat warning on this app.

The firewall uses the local VPN function, yes.

Boeing will only get to issue airworthiness certificates every other week, with the FAA handling things the other half of the time.

uhh. what.

I don't claim to be an expert in aircraft manufacturing...but just as a layman, this "compromise" seems like it might actually be worse than just letting Boeing inspect everything itself?

doing this week-on/week-off shit, like they're divorced parents trying to make sure little Jimmy gets to soccer practice, seems like it creates huge opportunities for problems to fall through the cracks.

if you're one of the workers doing these safety-critical inspections, you shouldn't have to change your process based on whether it's an odd week or an even week. that's absurd.

I think that is clearly the deliberate goal

James Gunn confirms G.I. Robot will appear in live action

I can't even imagine. Does this twist mean weโ€™ll get to see G.I. Robot in live-action?

The answer to that question, which, this is going to be all anybody talks about from this interview, is yes, but not necessarily when you think you're going to see him. So not necessarily in Peacemaker season 2.

in reply to TheImpressiveX

"... maybe more immature, but also more adult" is the perfect tag line for Peacemaker.

I don't think this is even counting state violence. We're still using that definition where if someone has a vest on that says "police" (and even if that is a wild exaggeration of their qualifications), it's not violence, it's just some sparkling free range asphalt hitting and grinding slash gunfire. This is only the freelance stuff.

(Not even to bring up what you call it if you then stuff someone in a box with no climate control and deny them medical care and food and toilets and then all of a sudden they die for no reason.)

in reply to PhilipTheBucket

No doubt. Im still trying to find out if the murder of a guy by ice near me has resulted in any charges. Far as I can tell no. No due process so judge, jury, executioner is the order of the day for ice. Dredd had more limitations.

Tropical Storm Imelda expected to batter parts of the southeastern U.S. this week

in reply to PhilipTheBucket

Remember, Imelda will be particularly dangerous because you won't be waiting for other shoes to drop. Stay indoors and away from windows. A stiletto can strike up to 10 miles from a storm.

I was looking at Peacemaker cast to learn more about some of them and I clicked on Nhut Le and I scrolled slightly and saw those Quick Facts that Google put in.

I had to share because this was too hilarious. ๐Ÿ˜‚ HOW did they mess that up?!

Edit: i reported it to Google as incorrect info. Others should too.

Rudy Giuliani and Dominion settle $1.3bn defamation suit over election lies

Huh ... so, it turns out he didn't have a slam-dunk case?

Rudy Giuliani, the former New York mayor and personal lawyer to Donald Trump, has settled a long-running defamation lawsuit with Dominion Voting Systems over lies he told about the result of the 2020 presidential election.

Details of the settlement, revealed in federal court in Washington DC in a filing late on Friday, are confidential. The Colorado-based voting machine manufacturer sued Giuliani for $1.3bn in 2021, citing more than 50 instances in which he made false or defamatory statements insisting the election was rigged against Trump, with the integrity of Dominionโ€™s machinery at the heart of the conspiracy theory.

Representatives for Giuliani and Dominion confirmed the resolution on Saturday but declined further comment when approached by CBS News. โ€œThe parties have agreed to a confidential settlement to this matter,โ€ a Dominion spokesperson said in a short statement.

in reply to Powderhorn

A shame that our courts have become so corrupt that they settled the case instead of bringing it to court. They should have won handily, just like ABC and CBS...

My humble philosophy-The Genesis of Justice and Evil: From Desire to Order

What Is Desire
Here, the definition of desire is slightly different from its usual meaning. I regard desire as behavior that goes beyond what the subject actually needs. The rest is only to respond to needs. What counts as โ€œbeyond needโ€ is related to the average level of demand. The standard varies according to era and nation, and is also connected with effort.

In the time of primitive humans, desire might only have meant having more food than one could finish. By the industrial age, desire turned toward money and material enjoyment. As we progress, desire expands accordingly. The difference between nations lies in their level of progress. Basically, the degree of progress is proportional to desire.

nah, they still got the war machine, it could somewhat make things afloat by milking mini wars around the planet or go an all out world war for maximum investor value.
This entry was edited (1 month ago)
in reply to RelativeArea1

All-out world war is off the table because we're already in a situation where two sides have nuclear weapons deployed to forward bases on launch alert, and the USA isn't either of them, and that's in *two* separate conflicts (India/Pakistan, EU (France)/Russia). If either of those turn red-hot then investor culture is something historians will talk about, if there are any historians left in a century or three.

REV acquired RadioShack in 2020, three years after the nearly century-old electronics chain filed for its second bankruptcy. RadioShack first filed for Chapter 11 protection in 2015. In 2023, Unicomer Group acquired RadioShack, and in 2024, relaunched it as an e-commerce platform. RadioShack's current owners are not named in the lawsuit.

So Radio Shack was the first store named simply for clickbait as it currently has nothing to do with these guys. Classy, CBS.

This entry was edited (1 month ago)
in reply to SanctimoniousApe

REV was accused of buying a bunch of semi-worthless businesses and then pumping up their value in various ways from 2020 to 2022. During the time of the alleged behavior, they owned Radio Shack, and their ownership of it was involved in the alleged malfeasance it sounds like.

The fact that after all was said and done, they sold it, doesn't really have a lot of bearing on what they were or weren't doing with it years before, when they did own it.

in reply to PhilipTheBucket

I know, but it still seems like a cheap attention-grabbing ploy to me. Probably just me being hypersensitive since I'm sooooooo tired of click-bait headlines.
in reply to SanctimoniousApe

Am I taking crazy pills or something?

It's not clickbait. They're accused of defrauding investors about Radio Shack, that's why Radio Shack is in the headline.

in reply to PhilipTheBucket

No, I guess I am. It's well past my bedtime, and I can't sleep so my brain's probably a bit off. Sorry.

Eric Adams drops out of New York City mayoral race

Nothing unusual here ... no, siree! Just a sober look at the numbers that led him to bow out.

Three weeks ago, when Adams had insisted that he would stay in the race, amid reports that he had been offered an ambassadorship by the Trump administration if he would drop out to make it easier for Cuomo to defeat the democratic socialist frontrunner, Mamdani, the mayor was scathing about the former governor. โ€œAndrew Cuomo is a snake and a liar,โ€ Adams told reporters. โ€œAndrew has had a career of pushing Black candidates out of races.โ€
in reply to Powderhorn

It's hard to believe they elected him in the first place, but honestly given their history of mayors, I'm surprised NY is even Blue.
in reply to t3rmit3

Agreed, but with a caveat - there are a lot of wealthy NYers that would vote for the status quo, but there are far more willing to put a progressive candidate forward in the city. It feels like Adams flew under the radar as being a sellout and didn't show his true colors until after he was elected (afaik). For NYC to be anything but blue at this point in time would go against an overwhelming majority that actually have the will to prevent a major flip like that, so that seems insanely unlikely.

Oregon sues to block Trump from deploying troops to Portland

Oregonโ€™s Attorney General Dan Rayfield announced Sunday that the state has filed a lawsuit to block President Donald Trump from deploying the National Guard to Portland or anywhere in the state, a day after Trump authorized federal troops to protect what he dubbed โ€œWar ravaged Portland.โ€
in reply to chiocciola

Yeah, I'd like to know what they plan to do if Trump ignores the lawsuit and/or the outcome of it. Which he almost certainly will.
in reply to LukeZaz

Even worse, SCOTUS is likely to give this their blessing

in reply to PhilipTheBucket

FYI, this Sinclair station is often misleading with their conservative reporting. The daily ICE protest is generally less than a dozen people, and not very confrontational. Trump is looking for an excuse, and is living in a fantasy world in his quest for domination.

The full power of the department of war hasn't been rolled out yet, so far mostly border patrol helicopters circling. A dramatic " terrorist riot" photo opportunity hasn't materialized for Fox News. Personally, I'm expecting the government shut down to be a welcome distraction, from this distraction.

From my linked article:
Trump referenced a weekend conversation with Oregon Gov. Tina Kotek, and he alluded to being told by Kotek that the reality in Portland is different from what's being portrayed to him.

"I spoke to the governor, she was very nice, Trump said. "But I said, 'Well wait a minute, am watching things on television that are different from what's happening? My people tell me different.

Deadly mass shootings take place in North Carolina, Texas and New Orleans

Three people were killed and at least eight others wounded late on Saturday when someone opened fire from a boat into a crowd gathered at a waterfront bar in a coastal town in North Carolina, authorities said.

It was one of multiple mass shootings โ€“ cases in which four or more people are shot or killed โ€“ reported in the US in public places heading into Sunday morning.

Elsewhere, in south Texas, seven were shot โ€“ two of whom were killed โ€“ in a shooting at a casino early Sunday. And in New Orleans, one woman was killed and three other people were wounded in a shooting on the cityโ€™s popular Bourbon Street, also early on Sunday.

Seems our national motto has become Violence Will Solve It.

Of note:

As of Sunday, the 271st day of 2025, there had been more than 320 mass shootings in the US, according to the non-partisan Gun Violence Archive.

Clarence Thomas says precedent might not determine cases on upcoming supreme court docket

in reply to chiocciola

Most people aren't there yet. It takes a massive number of truly disaffected people to spark a real resistance. It also requires known leaders willing to head it up and organize, otherwise it's just disjointed actions that can't be capitalized on.

This is why the whole "hey 2A people, where you at" thing is so annoying; the Revolutionary War had leaders and organization from the get-go, because well-known figures were willing to step up and say, "bring your weapons, organize here". And it was people with their personal arms at first, until they seized armories.

Maybe we'll get there, hopefully not, but most people are still working their jobs and getting Starbucks and going to Target, and you don't just collectively go from that to shoosting directly. There's a lot of in-between.

in reply to t3rmit3

2a people arenโ€™t who they think they are.

Saying โ€œhey 2aโ€ is pointing out they are hypocrites. Finding โ€œhey 2aโ€ annoying is disliking when people point out hypocrisy.

Personally, I am partial to people who pointed out hypocrisy.

in reply to chiocciola

Except it's not hypocritical, because none of the pro-2A people, even the shitty ones, claim that the point is to immediately and unilaterally and without any coordination attack the government, and there's no claimed line in the sand that has been crossed that they have obliged themselves to.

And the people making this accusation are doing it because they're anti-2A, not because they actually want to see it utilized appropriately. People making this argument always pretend that only the right is pro-2A, when it's people like Huey P. Newton and Ida Wells and Harriet Tubman and John Brown (who were all "2A people") who prove why it's actually necessary, not the Cliven Bundys.

in reply to chiocciola

If you have specific questions, I'm perfectly happy to expound.
in reply to Powderhorn

Lmao, like how the supreme courts right to declare laws unconstitutional is just a precedent set by the Supreme Court.

Nothing in the constitution enumerates their ability to shoot down laws, it just says โ€œa Supreme Court shall be establishedโ€

Maybe shut the fuck up about throwing out past precedent you donโ€™t like, given that precedent is the only reason you get a say on the matter.

FBI arrest man who allegedly threatened to shoot people at Texas Pride parade

This isn't great news overall (the environment that caused it can't be taken out of the equation), but it's cool to see the FBI actually paying attention and stopping this guy.

You know, before anyone was shot, as opposed to the post-mortem look at Facebook that screams "should have seen this coming" after N people are killed.

That said, the shit's going to hit the fan when Patel finds out they were protecting a Pride parade. I'd imagine he'll have a shocked look on his face.

Federal authorities in Texas have arrested a man for allegedly threatening to shoot people at a pro-LGBTQ+ parade, to avenge the murder of Charlie Kirk.

According to court documents viewed by the Guardian, on 18 September, the FBIโ€™s field office in Dallas was notified by Abilene, Texas, police about online threats from a local resident.

The resident, identified as Joshua Cole, allegedly used a Facebook account under the name โ€œJay Dubyaโ€ where he โ€œthreatened to commit a shootingโ€ at a Pride parade in Abilene on 20 September.

Remember this any time some liberal says that resistance is just giving them what they want and they'll use it as an excuse to escalate the violence.

THEY ARE DOING THAT ANYWAY

Despite no evidence that there is any kind of widespread violence in Portland, the President literally gave the greenlight for the fucking military to use live rounds against protestors.

If they're going to say you're a violent agitator and try to kill you no matter what you do, wouldn't you rather give them a fucking black eye first?

A lot at steak: US beef and cattle prices soar to record highs

The classic combination of tight supply and strong demand has pushed US cattle and beef prices to record highs, and there is little end in sight with farmers reluctant to expand their herds and selling off high-priced heifers to dig them out of debt.

Ground beef prices hit a record high of $6.32 a pound in August, and beef prices were up 13.9% year-over-year according to the consumer price index, far outstripping overall inflation rise of 2.9%.

That's insane. I remember being able to go into the store toward the end of the night and getting the ground beef out of the case for 99 cents a pound, just so she didn't have to put it in a tray.
