Sweet.

The thing about comic books is that we just keep making them. There's plenty of Constantine tales that haven't been made into film or television.

And Keanu does an absolutely fantastic portrayal of Constantine.

Despite being a red state, I rarely hear about stuff like this in Kentucky.

If I do it's usually around July 4th.

Each episode this season seems to have gotten shorter and shorter, great to see a nice long finale.

Take this disruption as a moment to reflect on whether you really want to come into this shit show as a non-citizen.

The move deprives a petition of the last signature it needs to force a vote on a bill to release files related to Jeffrey Epstein

seemingly minor procedural thing, but important - they're not just delaying release of the Epstein files, they're delaying a roll-call vote on releasing the Epstein files

the vote would simply force them to give a concrete, recorded, yes-or-no answer to "should the Epstein files be released?"

and Republicans are terrified of that, because they've painted themselves into a corner where "yes" will piss off Trump (as well as any other oligarchs listed in the files) and "no" will piss off their base, especially the QAnon freaks who actually believed the Republican propaganda about "fighting pedophiles"

tapping the sign: We Need to Talk About Pedocon Theory - The connection between Donald Trump and Jeffrey Epstein is no accident, but reveals a deep logic at the heart of reactionary politics (content warning: jumpscare of Trump's mugshot as soon as you load the page)

I remember when the pro-authoritarian legislators in HK refused to swear in and then later had a pro-CCP judge reject, a bunch of pro-democracy legislators, too.

It's funny how Republicans seem to emulate so closely the people they claim to revile.

They don't need to do that. The DNC will never back someone like her for any meaningful position.

The DNC will resist positive change till their last dying breath, won’t they?

Howdy! If it hasn't already happened, it doesn't belong in this community. You're posting politics, so I'm going to remove this and ask you to repost there.

On Tuesday, Judge Bill Young of Massachusetts issued a 161-page ruling

one of my journalism pet peeves - the "source" the article links to is a tweet from some random account, with a one-page screenshot from the ruling.

instead, here's an actual direct link to the ruling (161 page PDF): storage.courtlistener.com/reca…

Flipping Icebergs

When an iceberg flips, it creates waves that can endanger ships nearby, but the move can also trigger further melting. In the ocean, many factors, including wind and waves, can contribute to an iceberg flipping, so researchers studied small, lab-scale versions to see how melting–alone–affects an iceberg’s likelihood of flipping.

The results showed that melting alone was enough to destabilize icebergs and make them flip, as seen in the timelapse above. These mini-icebergs melted faster underwater, changing the berg’s overall shape and eventually triggering a flip. Corners developed at the waterline where the different melt rates above- and below-the-water met. Whenever a flip occurred, one of these corners would always settle at the new water line, causing the lab iceberg to change from a circular cylinder to a polygon as melting continued. Government shuts down after Congress fails to reach a funding agreement

cross-posted from: piefed.zip/post/527513

Much of the federal government is now shut down after Republicans and Democrats in the Senate failed to agree on a pair of dueling funding bills to keep the government open.
