More Than Half of Russian Equipment Stockpile Gone. We're In The Endgame Now.

Trolls & bots fail to understand or accept that Russia is anything but infinite and inevitable - but numbers are numbers. They've spent half of their entire Soviet inheritance to steal what they sit on today. The war doesn't end when they get to zero vehicles. The half they've squandered is surely the BETTER half, and they still need an army for territorial defense and internal repression. Ukraine is not about the break, and this is probably the best position Russia is ever going to be in. This is the endgame of this messy, abusive Divorce, and Pootz has to come up with some whopper lies to say it was all worthwhile.

30 Bob Ross paintings will be auctioned to support public TV

Dozens of Bob Ross paintings — many of them created live on the PBS series that made him a household name — will be auctioned off in the coming months to support public television.

...

Now, the nonprofit syndicator American Public Television (APT) is auctioning off 30 of Ross' paintings to raise money for public broadcasters hit by federal funding cuts. APT has pledged to direct 100% of its net sales proceeds to APT and PBS stations nationwide, auction house Bonhams said in a statement.

White House says furloughed federal workers not entitled to back pay amid shutdown

Audacity 4 will be a full UI overhaul apparently.

Good video, very much worth watching despite the length.
New UI will look something like this:

with an option for a more classic look.

Looks like an enourmous UX improvement too, and a rewrite to QT and eliminating a lot of technical debt will make development faster.

Moldbug has a sad (2), plans to flee USA

in reply to AllNewTypeFace

Curtis Yarvin goes to prison. He has two cellmates. He asks them why they're there. "I helped Trump destroy the country", one of them replies. "Well I'm here because Trump didn't destroy the country", Yarvin retorts. They turn to the third man, who says: "I am Donald Trump."
in reply to AllNewTypeFace

Yarvin doesn’t think Trump has the guts to pull off a full fascist nightmare.

It physically pains me to say this, but I think Yarvin is correct here. What IS getting done is bad enough, but he's right that you can't really half-ass a hostile takeover, which is what Trump et al seem to be doing. Yes, they're fucking the US systems up, badly, but they're leaving the structures too intact. They're still bothering with things like court cases and gerrymandering. You don't bother with gerrymandering if you're not planning on still having elections, yknow?

I also think Yarvin is correct that Trump and crew will ultimately fail because of it. That's probably cold comfort to the people who have already lost loved ones, or who are dying or going to die because of this administration (and as a trans person myself, I may well be among that number), but it's not nothing.

Attorney for woman shot by Border Patrol claims officer said 'Do something b----' before shooting

cross-posted from: slrpnk.net/post/28499239

In the charges filed Sunday, prosecutors notably did not mention a loaded gun in Martinez’s car that was referenced in a previous statement by the Department of Homeland Security. But in court Monday, Hennessy said Martinez had a loaded firearm on the passenger side of her car but never brandished it. Martinez’s attorney, Parente, said she has a valid firearm and concealed-carry license.

for anyone unfamiliar with the Los Angeles area, Burbank is one of the many airports in the region, nowhere near as large as LAX, but still sees quite a bit of airline traffic, mostly shorter domestic flights because LAX is such an international hub.

Who is Bari Weiss, the new editor-in-chief of CBS News?

OK, first off:

meteoric rise

Meteors go in one direction, and it ain't fucking up. Just because others have said the same stupid thing in the past, it is not incumbent upon you to further muddy meaning.

Paramount Skydance has appointed Bari Weiss, a former New York Times opinion writer who launched an “anti-woke” commentary website, as editor-in-chief of CBS News.

Five years after an acrimonious exit from the New York Times, Weiss, 41, has been installed at the top of one of the most venerated institutions in US news – solidifying the meteoric rise of a divisive figure in media.

She will report directly to David Ellison, the son of the billionaire tech mogul Larry Ellison and head of Paramount Skydance, the company that owns CBS News, which has acquired the Free Press, Weiss’s media startup.

Having read through this piece, I don't feel like it clarifies anything, but I guess it's an 098 bio.

Trump open to invoking the Insurrection Act

President Donald Trump on Monday said he would consider using the Insurrection Act to deploy the military if federal courts prevented him from deploying the National Guard to protect federal buildings and conduct law enforcement operations.

I'd not heard of Alanis' death. We really lost a moral compass on irony.

in reply to Powderhorn

I mean, the Texas national guard is now in Illinois - I really don't think "taking Trump seriously but not literally" applies anymore.

If he's unable to move forward with Portland due to the court case, he's just going to do it and be done with it.

We are living in extremely dangerous times.

What Are Your Thoughts On Tolstoy's Preface Of His Interpretation Of His Translation Of The Gospels "The Gospel In Brief"? (Part Four Of Four)

What Are Your Thoughts On Tolstoy's Preface Of His Interpretation Of His Translation Of The Gospels "The Gospel In Brief"? (Part Four Of Four)

in reply to TheImpressiveX

It's a shame.

Video game publishers stopped commissioning videos from animation studios. The article says this is a "post-pandemic downturn", but I'm not sure this has anything to do with the pandemic. It's simply a stylistic shift in what game trailers look like currently.

The US writer and actor strikes 2023 certainly didn't help, and pushed out production schedules because they were working so much with Hollywood despite being a Scottish studio.

But in the end it's down to how they worked, dragging themselves from fully working on one project to the next one, from commission paycheck to commission paycheck. That's not a reliable business model in the long run. It can work and it works for lot of these production companies, but this is one example to caution.

Also, the commissioning studios basically killed them by refusing to pay initial payments when the new projects couldn't be started on time.

'Reading Rainbow'’ is back with new episodes on YouTube

After nearly two decades, the classic kids' show Reading Rainbow is back — with a new host and a new digital format, but with the same mission of encouraging children to "take a look, it's in a book."

The new host is library evangelist Mychal Threets, who became a social media star while working as a librarian in Solano County, Calif. (His tattoos include PBS cartoon aardvark Arthur Read's library card.)

Very cool to see this coming back - quite surprising given funding cuts to PBS.

Remember to support your local PBS and NPR stations in these troubled times.

in reply to Midnitte

This is run by Kidzuko, a Sony Pictures Television Kids venture. Here's the launch press release. Personally, I'm not particularly trusting of them, just being an arm of a large company. I tried watching an episode and the tone seems pretty different. I know LeVar Burton had this Kickstarter which I guess turned into this Skybrary app after legal issues. It's unfortunate that something so nostalgic is just another IP that can be resurrected. But, it could be far worse

Believe its akin to how Sesame Street was on HBO - its still produced by WNED parent company Buffalo Toronto Public Media and it'll just be on Sonys YouTube channel (I suppose to get kids to maybe watch other things on their channel?)

I'd be curious to see if it still gets played on PBS stations since its still produced by a PBS stations (BTPM)

Late night host Jimmy Fallon asked Ruffalo during his show last night why he wasn't in the "Avengers trailer", saying: "Every time you're on the show you give a spoiler or you get in trouble."

The actor cheekily replied: "They decided that it was better to get rid of me than for me to tell the end of the next movie."

Happy to contribute with a personal experience. If you're interested in self-hosting, stay well clear of ipv6.rs/

They've promoted and been active on soj.ooo/ , a project whose motto might as well be "self-host so ((they)) can't censor you!" The crowd is your typical "too antisemitic to be MAGA" fellas.

So if you want a static IP, go to your local ISP or buy tunnelling from Cloudflare.

in reply to self

there's a writeup to do of Bluesky and AT-protocol as fashtech, start from this one azhdarchid.com/delusions-of-a-…

there's more detail to add for the explicit case for atproto as fashtech, but yelling about decentralisation while keeping a pile of obscured but load-bearing points of central control is a good tell

Literally the only time Jesus got physically violent was with these people.

in reply to Midnitte

Yeah I mean that doesn't make a ton of sense lol

My theory is that there is literally no reason or logic behind it at all, that the "stupid nonsensical hostile comment" virus endemic to lemmy.world is spreading to new instances now.

in reply to Axum

I have no idea what you're on about, but the sort of comment that gave you the "lulz" is not welcome on Beehaw. Directly accusing people of things and then ditching out after you've stirred the shit may fly on your home instance, but it doesn't here.

I'm leaving this up because what really happened here is you outed yourself as an idiot. The comment is irrelevant, and the grammar isn't standard, but in a weird way like you're trying for highfalutin but not quite used to that register.

At any rate, consider this your warning. Personal attacks are not tolerated, and I'm happy to give you a vacation if that's unclear or not to your liking.
