Laurence Fishburne wants to play Charles Xavier in MCU's version of X-Men

in reply to TheImpressiveX

he's a great actor. Will do fine.

I'm mostly wondering how they'll handle Magneto, the whole holocaust backstory won't fit anymore unless they set the movie in the past, or some magic bs.

in reply to 🍉 Albert 🍉

Just say he has magically magnetic regenerative powers which make him age "slower than a regular human". Don't specify any more.

Done and done.

Just like handsome Deadpool conveniently lacked regenerative powers.

i have no real arguments against that,

it just gives me the ick, that's all. I just don't like it.

And now, like an idiot, came up with the idea of setting the X-Men in the early 90s. and now I really want that. and am. very sad that it won't happen.

My imagination hurt my feelings

Oh boy, I know that feeling only too well. Hang in there buddy. Haha.

I need a support group for "imagined something that doesn't exist and am sad"

FUCK, JUST REALISED I DID THAT AGAIN WITH THAT STATEMENT

I swear I didn't mean it

in reply to 🍉 Albert 🍉

Yeah I'm with the other guy you have to keep the Magneto backstory. It's so wonderfully perfect for the character and for the current times. Just do timey whimey shit, I don't care. The store is way too important to risk for something so trivial is it was a while ago. For that matter I don't know why these kind of projects bother setting definitive dates.
in reply to njm1314

there already so little Jewish characters in the media, I think growing up magneto was the only jew I saw on tv.

and representation matters.

I want kids to grow up knowing they can be whatever they want, maybe even extinct the human race.

in reply to 🍉 Albert 🍉

Lucky for Hollywood, we have a fresh new batch of Nazis to pull stories from!
in reply to TheImpressiveX

I like Fishburn, and I think he has the energy for a teacher and a leader. He might be a bit bulky for a wheelchair bound psychic, but you could certainly make worse casting choices.

My thoughts right now.

I've gone to the edges. I sincerely cringe when I choose to tell others I'm wise. My time here put the answers in reach. I know whatever, dude. You wouldn't believe it l, so why would I say it?

I will ask you to consider the value of mental freedom. Just consider tossed away all the biases. Look at everything fresh. Try and simplify things first. Before you think of anything complicated. Bring it down to what is the only possible solution. One is looked over. Intelligence cannot arise without intelligent design. I have checked the boxes in the seemingly impossible data sets. Do you believe it? Nah. It's unfair. I want people to see my honesty. Thanks. Just my thoughts.

PM season 2 finale took the momentum the Superman and Creature Commandos built up, and just pushed it off a cliff

Most disappointed I've been since the original Suicide Squad

in reply to TheImpressiveX

I've seen a few crazy quotes online of people asking Gunn ridiculous questions, people wanting wild cameos and reveals that don't make sense, but this this one is the most reasonable.

I hope Gunn looks at the more sane responses and understands why the finale didn't work.

Look at the Earth X reveal. It was a little dragged out, but we had two very similar scenes with Peacemaker and Harcourt in a large park in both universes. They had a clear parallel. They had the obvious Harcourt differences, and the surprise populace differences.

But then look at the "Checkmate" reveal. Why is it called "Checkmate"? No character has anything to do with chess. Sure it's a logical next step in Ads story, but other than a failed newspaper ad we don't see her actually do anything. For a character driven show, she should have actually tried and failed.

Look at Eagly. He has magic powers and killed Red Saint Wild. It was neat... But why? No one even cares that Red is dead. Eagly didn't even save the day later on.

Good Strike!!!! #FreePalestine

Note: Auto-translated from Catalan.

in reply to TheImpressiveX

Ugh. First Peacemaker ends horribly and now the next thing we have to look forward to is a space superhero movie? And it's not even a Lantern movie?

eyeroll

in reply to Impulse

Lanterns do get a TV show and it's coming up next. Although not technically a space show AFAIK.
in reply to MimicJar

From what I know, Lanterns will be a cop drama set on Earth. What I’m worried about is limited use of powers. They are space cops and comics don’t really focus on space detective stuff, but they sometimes lightly sprinkle it in.
in reply to TheImpressiveX

Guardians was my favourite of all the Marvel movies. So.... Lucky me??

"Police ask kids to stop doing things" has a stellar success ratio.

Separately, would someone please hand The Verge a stylebook?

Round Rock Police Patrol Division Commander Andy McKinney told NBC that it could even “cause a SWAT response.”

The Salem, MA police department summed it up best in a statement saying, “this prank dehumanizes the homeless, causes the distressed recipient to panic and wastes police resources.

With no dateline or prior reference to Texas, apparently Round Rock has been elevated to dateline-city status. Meanwhile, in Salem, Mass., they're slumming it with USPS abbreviations that aren't used in any style I've encountered.

Bank of America raises U.S. minimum hourly wage to $25, increasing starting salary to more than $50K

in reply to PhilipTheBucket

By Courier Newsroom

Bank of America announced

Joining the bank at the minimum wage is a launchpad for a long-term career.

Bank of America also offers industry-leading benefits and employee programs for all.

Bank of America’s leadership as a global employer of choice has been recognized by many external organizations

this is just a Bank of America press release dressed up to look like a news article

in reply to spit_evil_olive_tips

Oh, yeah. That byline gives it away.

Contributed Report = press release

Staff Report = press release with minor changes

Courier Newsroom = press release

in reply to Powderhorn

Ugh, that's upsetting. I have been reading Atlanta news stuff from the Atlanta bot but apparently some of it is this, I guess. My bad, thank you for information
in reply to PhilipTheBucket

I mean, before I worked in a newsroom, I never really considered bylines. "Staff report" and its ilk are clever ways of saying "Sweet! We filled 10" without having to pay!" while intentionally looking like we did much to the copy (oh, I still copyedited the fuck out of it and spiked more than a few stories on account of needing a second source for this to be in the vicinity of journalism ... simpler times).

This shit's generally stuff that should have to run under a "Sponsored Content" header, but if the advertiser can show a modicum of restraint, it can slip through, especially as there's likely no copy desk to spike it and run AP copy of an out-of-state quilting bee.

Zoom Into the Sun

Fall into our nearest star in this gorgeous high-resolution view of the Sun. Taken by Solar Orbiter, a joint NASA-ESA mission, the image stretches from the fiery photosphere — full of filaments and prominences — to the wispy yet unbelievably hot corona. It’s well worth clicking through to zoom in and around the full size image. (Image credit: ESA & NASA/Solar Orbiter/EUI Team, E. Kraaikamp; via Gizmodo)

Marvel details upcoming slate of shows at New York Comic Con

in reply to roydbt

I still haven't finished Born Again, not interested in turning on a Daredevil show to watch a bad lawyer drama. 🙁 I get it, no stunts and costumes is cheap to produce, but after Moon Knight, come on!
in reply to jordanlund

It changes around episode 5. It’s worth imo
in reply to jordanlund

Never watched Daredevil before, and I was bored too. The Spiderman cartoon didn't grip me either. Also I never saw the old X-Men cartoons, so... same.

But the Vision show could be interesting, I will definitely give that a go.

in reply to jordanlund

Curious how much you watched because I don't think "bad lawyer drama" accurately describes the show.

The show did get a complete retooling during season 1 and additional scenes were shot.

Overall season 1 started strong and ended strong, with some fun moments between. Those beginning and endings being the new stuff they shot.

So maybe the stuff in the middle is where you ended up slowing down.

in reply to MimicJar

I watched through the end of the White Tiger stuff to see if anyone would bother going "Hey, it's a subway platform right? Where's the security camera footage?"

Then after he was killed I think I watched the next episode with Punisher and haven't gone back.

Only on lemmy would someone think 22 total votes of which only 3/4 are downvotes would be considered a “rain of downvotes” imagine if you were in a room with 22 people and 4 agree with you but 18 didn’t. That wouldn’t be considered a flood of downvotes. That’d just be a minority position.

Everything announced by Marvel Studios at New York Comic Con 2025

  • Daredevil: Born Again season 2
  • X-Men '97 season 2 (X-Men '97 season 3 is also confirmed)
  • Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man season 2
  • VisionQuest
  • Wonder Man
This entry was edited (1 month ago)
in reply to MimicJar

Pretty underwhelming, but I guess I'd take a little really good stuff than a lot of mediocre.
in reply to ytsedude

It was all expected, but I wouldn't say underwhelming.

Daredevil Born Again was a little rough but set everything up for an excellent season 2.

X-Men 97 and Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man were both top quality animation projects, so more of them is exciting.

WandaVision and Agatha are the two best MCU shows to date, so the finale of the trilogy really exciting.

And then Wonder Man is the wildcard. I'm intrigued by what I see, but not sure what to expect.

Honestly I wouldn't be mad at a Vigilante spinoff all on his own. Send him off on a solo mission and call the rest of the gang as needed for backup.

in reply to TheImpressiveX

In general I'm excited, but I'm concerned about the "Part 1" of it all.

The "Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths" trilogy, in addition to story issues, felt really stretched out.

I skimmed this article purposefully because I know that his opinion of the academic studies of Revelation is grossly in error. More than likely, because he is an oligarch, he has alternative motives in our society.

All of that being said, I do NOT trust one fucking word that comes out of his mouth.

AND I DON'T FUCKING CARE ABOUT SOMEONE WHO DOESN'T CARE ABOUT THE COMMON PEOPLE.

But at least he wastes a lot of words while being a dick. With an editor, he could get it down to the length of a TED Talk.

I hope you haven't taken my use of all caps the wrong way (Internet yelling). I rarely ever do that and I was yelling to express my anger toward an oligarch. I was not yelling at you. I hope you are having a good weekend.

Oh, no worries on the caps ... sometimes italics just don't have the gravitas a situation calls for.

Wonder Man - Official Teaser Trailer

in reply to MimicJar

This looks interesting. I have no idea who Wonder Man is or what this means. But I'm curious.
in reply to Andy

In the comics, Wonder Man was a Tom Cruise level actor named Simon Williams. He was treated with ionic energy to give him super powers and was orginally introduced as a bad guy.

Similar power set to Superman except that he can't fly. Super strong, invulnerable, and so on.

Originally his eyes glowed red which meant he wore dark sunglasses all the time.

Bonus: Simon Williams movie posters were seen in deleted scenes from Guardians of the Galaxy 2 with Nathan Fillion as Williams.

in reply to MimicJar

It’s weird that they released this teaser on IGN and Rotten Tomatoes but not on their official YouTube channel.
in reply to roydbt

I agree. I saw the trailer on IGN and waited a little bit before posting, assuming the official Marvel channel would post it, but no luck.
in reply to roydbt

My guess is they are expecting "fan" backlash over re-casting Simon Williams as a black man.

And this preview looks to show them directly leaning into it. Good for them!
