Mandatory minimum child pornography sentences unconstitutional, Supreme Court rules
I want to point out that the issue of Child Porn sentences aside, shout out to those who believe Danielle Smith will use the Notwithstanding Clause over and over again. Take a look at this quote:
In a 5-4 decision, the top court said although the sentences contribute to the objectives of denunciation and deterrence, they also remove judges’ discretion to impose sentences other than imprisonment when appropriate.Conservative politicians swiftly denounced the ruling.
In a social media post, Alberta Premier Danielle Smith called the judgment “outrageous” and urged the federal government to overturn it using the Constitution’s notwithstanding clause.

Mathematical proof debunks the idea that the universe is a computer simulation

Their findings, published in the Journal of Holography Applications in Physics, go beyond simply suggesting that we're not living in a simulated world like The Matrix. They prove something far more profound: the universe is built on a type of understanding that exists beyond the reach of any algorithm.

Ahhh yeah I can see the broken image when I view the thread via your website. I'm guessing the media server your server uses has a glitched copy of that image in its cache.
If the cache gets refreshed at some point it would hopefully store an unglitched copy.
It's a very recent post though so it may be some time before the cache is refreshed.

A villain origin story like this is exciting. In many ways it gets to be what all those Sony Spider-man without Spider-Man movies wanted to be... except we get to include ~~Spider-Man~~ Batman at some point.

Balanced/nuanced views of property ownership
As I'm writing my work on Philosophy of Balance I also want to write something on moral views around the topic of property ownership. But to be honest, it's probably the topic I have the least clear answers to right now. As a quick primer, the Philosophy of Balance is aimed to provide both rational as well as emphatic guidance to improve balance, both inwards within oneself, as well as outwards with those around us.
This means I'm trying to avoid extremes, and I'm trying to find nuance in sometimes difficult topics. In this particular case, that means I'm not going for either absolute capitalism (for obvious reasons) nor for absolute communism or anarchism (I don't believe absolute equality necessarily implies balance, but feel free to offer arguments to the contrary). So I think I'd prefer to find something that allows for personal ownership, but which avoids excesses, although I struggle at where to draw the line. Maybe that means the premise is flawed, so any help is appreciated!
Thanks for hearing me out, and looking forward to your suggestions!

US will limit number of refugees to 7,500 and give priority to white South Africans
Well, that's disgusting. I mean, just how many kids did Elon leave back there?
The Trump administration is going to restrict the number of refugees it admits into the United States next year to the token level of just 7,500 – and those spots will mostly be filled by white South Africans. The low number represents a dramatic drop after the US previously allowed in hundreds of thousands of people fleeing war and persecution from around the world.
The administration published the news on Thursday in a notice on the Federal Registry.
No reason was given for the drop in numbers, which are a dramatic decrease from last year’s ceiling set under the Biden administration of 125,000.

I have to wonder how many of these White South Africans (or South Africans, period) even want to come to the US, given all the bullshit going on here. Plus just having to start over. It's not like they're going to be given a house and tons of money and jobs and all that. I imagine they're going to come here as any other refugee would and have to start over fresh.
I suppose this is just more performative BS for MAGAs.

So using objective terms with real definitions grounded in evidence-based science? Because if that's the case, I think the IRS violates my first amendment rights by requiring that I use terminology I disagree with when submitting my federal taxes, and I'll be contacting my lawyer shortly about this.

You know what? That's a mean things to say.
Be nice to him. It's his first day.
Sounds like a fun way to introduce the Young Avengers. I think the joke of this Kang being a first day Kang would have been a little lame on future watches.
Maybe instead you make it be one Kang observing some sort of Kang tournament. As soon as they defeat this Kang another one appears and just destroys (but not kill) them. Maybe capture them for future training. Or realistically just wipe them all out, but then cut to another universe where the Young Avengers did win.
Then you can end with them winning and losing, setting up the infinite of it all.

Trump fires federal arts board in charge of reviewing White House ballroom and ‘Arc de Trump’
Why do we even pretend there's oversight anymore?
Donald Trump has fired all six members of an independent federal agency responsible for reviewing his controversial White House ballroom and planned “Arc de Trump” in Washington DC.The Washington Post first reported that all members of the Commission of Fine Arts were dismissed on Tuesday.
“On behalf of President Donald J. Trump, I am writing to inform you that your position as a member of the Commission of Fine Arts is terminated, effective immediately,” read an email sent to one of the commissioners, which was obtained by the Post.
A White House official told the Guardian: “We are preparing to appoint a new slate of members to the commission that are more aligned with President Trump’s America First Policies.”

A White House official told the Guardian: “We are preparing to appoint a new slate of members to the commission that are more aligned with President Trump’s America First Policies.”
That is fucking rich. Building a ballroom, giving Argentina $20 billion while also preparing to give Jamaica tons of relief money (after dismantling USAID). Meanwhile, the government isn't open because he refuses to support Healthcare subsidies to help people, and millions of people are without SNAP benefits.
Dude isn't America First, he's Trump first.

Just to be clear, for anyone reading this story, looking at the graphics and trying to figure out how the hell one gets to that hed with the data provided, don't bother. Neither conflicting dataset backs up the main claim.
So, it's either 20% of adult U.S. TikTok users (which, notably, is not "all Americans") per the graphic, or it's 55% of the same cohort per the copy.
This is shockingly poor QC for Pew.

Great. Myanmar is using its military to bomb civilians and allowing rare earth mines to run unchecked and flushing toxins into their rivers, potentially poisoning *millions* of people in Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam — so that’s on-brand for Trump to want a piece of that action.
