Why Tesla matters so much

This is why some of us are still out there, week after week, protesting at Tesla dealerships:
Mark Chadbourn on Bluesky posting: "Interesting piece: if Tesla collapses Musk's entire empire could come crashing down because of the way he's structured the companies' finances." with a big Tesla logo on probably? the trunk of one of their cars, with rain.
Here’s the story. It’s old, but it’s still pretty much true. Driving the stake through the heart of Tesla is how to take down the rest.

That’s why those of us who understand that this is a marathon are still getting out there, week in, week out. Not every protest, but over and over again, we’re there.

We’re not there yet. But sales keep falling. The more they’re reminded about who he is, the more sales go down.

We are that reminder.

Join us.

I'm 75 and I've been to most of the 36 weekly protests in Columbus OH. I even got injured when I fell backwards while seated in my rollator. It's getting colder and our numbers are thinning. Where are you?

in reply to Scrubbles

So... anybody know what the drivers were fearing, exactly..?
in reply to JohnnyEnzyme

@scrubbles He's going to confiscate all cars and throw them into the river. Some dude on Facebook told me, so it must be true.

Lemmy Development Update October 2025

In your opinion, what MCU projects had the most wasted potential?

  • My first pick is "What If...?". In a multiverse of infinite possibilities, we ended up getting the same old same old. We could have gotten a nice, episodic, self-contained anthology series that had nothing to do with the rest of the MCU (as it was originally marketed as) but then they had to go and add a huge, connecting storyline. Not to mention the animation style could have been a bit better.
  • And then there's Secret Invasion, which by all accounts was a complete mess. A lot of people say that this should have been the main story arc of Phases 4 to 6 instead of the multiverse. They could have slowly teased the presence of Skrulls invading Earth (perhaps by revealing that some of the Avengers were Skrulls all along?) and maybe used the plot of Secret Invasion as a feature film instead of a series.
in reply to TheImpressiveX

We could have had taskmaster as a reoccurring villain. Imagine someone turning up that is steadily getting more powerful, starts bodying the heros, it could have been really compelling.
in reply to TheImpressiveX

While I think the movies are good, I think they should have had an older Spiderman. Not only has teen Spiderman been done so many times, but it would have made him a more obvious successor to IronMan and helped with the post endgame transition.

How to make sauces less potent so you can douse your food in them?

I love food that is doused in sauce. Especially Mexican food (like tacos or burritos) and Asian food (like stir fries) where everything is drenched.

The problem is, that a lot of the base ingredients in sauces are pretty potent. Like soy sauce or most hot sauces, if you "drenched" your food in it, it'd be too strong.

So what's the secret? Do you basically just add a bunch of water to it?

in reply to TheImpressiveX

Makes sense. Anytime you have to play the role of a character with mental issues, it's an opportunity to show your range.

Is Cloudron's forum on fedi yet?

Hey cloudron@social.cloudron.io, you guys are awesome. NodeBB has a Docker image that is community supported but Cloudron literally has one-click NodeBB hosting!

So... ah... can you turn on ActivityPub so your forum can join fedi? :smiling_imp:

oh that was unexpected to see that also as a @nodebb thread over at activitypub.space/

Let's see where this reply ends up at!

In a historic vote, Mecklenburg transit and transportation sales tax wins approval

Mecklenburg County voters on Tuesday voted yes on an increase in the sales tax to fund a nearly $20 billion transportation plan that area leaders have spent more than five years working to win approval for.

With nearly all precincts reporting, the vote was 52.28% for and 47.72% against.

The sales tax on most items, except for food, medicine and some other categories, will rise 1 percentage point in Mecklenburg, to 8.25%

The vote caps off a push that began more than five years ago, and represents the biggest single source of new infrastructure funding in the region’s history. But question marks remain — such as whether the federal government will pick up any of the tab for the rail buildout — and the full plan will take decades to realize.

The funds will be spread between different transportation and transit modes: 40% of the new tax revenue will be dedicated to roads, bike lanes and sidewalks; 40% will be spent on rail transit, and 20% will be set aside for buses and new microtransit.

Supporters of Colorado Propositions MM and LL [free meals for all public school students] declare victory

Preliminary returns show Colorado’s Proposition LL with a commanding lead, while Proposition MM is also ahead, but by a smaller margin.

The two ballot measures would fund free meals for all public school students, give raises or stipends to cafeteria workers and provide grants to schools to purchase fresh ingredients from local farmers.

If there’s money left over from the taxes the two measures bring in, the funding could help shore up the SNAP program, also known as food stamps, for low-income families in the face of federal cuts.

As of 8:15 p.m., Proposition LL was ahead by 27 points, while Proposition MM had a smaller, 14-point lead.

Yeah it's so weird. I was looking up some of the reporting done on this incident, and most of the videos I saw had reporters mentioning the traffic controllers calling out.

But the stupid thing was I then saw the footage of the plane taking off and it's already on fire lol! How is a traffic controller going to prevent that

in reply to Megaman_EXE

I hated having to take flights already, due to the Airports having smoking rooms which kept the doors opened and then air from the Aircraft ventilation system having tobacco stuff in it due to hours of intaking the stuff exhaled by people who have been smoking just a few minutes before boarding.

Now on top of that, this seems to be giving me a socially acceptable reason to just say "no" to using aeroplanes.
It would be good to find out if someone was specifically collecting incidents on crashes caused by particularly inexcusable problems. Problems like the one shown in the picture of this one.

Pennsylvania artist sorry for including Nazi camp arch on school parade float

in reply to Powderhorn

Even if we believe this one artist is a complete moron, are we supposed to believe there was no one among the people setting up the parade and float that recognized the words? Or didn't and did a web search to figure out what the message was?

Turns out getting takeout takes longer than cooking at home. I of course would make a vegan version, but that would also save like half the price of the meat.

Jeffrey Epstein had accounts with Goldman Sachs and HSBC, documents show

Jeffrey Epstein, the disgraced late financier and sex offender, had accounts at Goldman Sachs (GS.N, HSBC (HSBA.L), and other banks, new court filings show.

The revelations came in previously sealed documents made public by JPMorgan Chase (JPM.N), once Epstein's main bank, in a now-settled lawsuit brought by the U.S. Virgin Islands, where Epstein had a private island residence.

Released to the public on Friday, the report did not provide dollar amounts or details about Epstein's relationships with other banks, but alerted authorities to money transfers he made.

A U.S. judge ordered the documents unsealed in response to requests from The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal. Bloomberg earlier reported the banks' names.

In an emailed statement, Goldman said: "We terminated our client relationship with Mr. Epstein, and his assets were transferred out of the firm in 2010."

HSBC declined to comment.

Shutdown may force US to close some air space next week, official sees 'mass chaos'

U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy warned Tuesday that if the federal government shutdown continues another week it could lead to "mass chaos" and could force him to close some of the national airspace to air traffic, a drastic move that could upend American aviation.

Hi Nutomic, thanks for joining the forum.

While I have you, I wanted to ask you about the removal of audience from Lemmy. I believe the rationale for it was that it was not used outside of Lemmy, but both Piefed (rimu@piefed.social) and NodeBB use it.

I still think the explicit use of the audience property is more helpful than not.

I discovered another use case for it, although it is a bit of an edge case. Last night a user from lemmy.ca posted to activitypub@community.nodebb.org. Here, there are no followers to that group actor, so it did not federate here. However, one of the relays this site subscribes to did Announce the topic, and when it arrived here, NodeBB could not accurately determine whether the topic/post _actually belonged to activitypub@community.nodebb.org.

Specifically, it is because sometimes users (on Mastodon or other sites) mention group actors but don't intend for the post to be made there. It is not a strong enough signal.

But audience being explicitly set does provide that strong signal. I've updated NodeBB's code to trust the group actor if located in audience.

My hypothesis on why Lemmy is rejecting valid activities

I have not been able to successfully post to a Lemmy instance either as a post or a comment. A cryptic error message is returned where the error is unknown and the message is a generic message: [code=json] {"error":"unknown","message":"data did not match

Re: My hypothesis on why Lemmy is rejecting valid activities

Hi, I had a look at the activities sent from your account. Looks like the only problem is that you are missing a @context field. After adding that it parses just fine. What you serve from / is irrelevant, that one is completely optional.
in reply to mradcliffe

Re: My hypothesis on why Lemmy is rejecting valid activities

Actually I was wrong, there is a context so thats fine. The problem is that audience should be a simple string but you are sending an error, thats why it fails. Anyway that field is optional, so you can leave it out and put the community in to or cc instead.

julian No but still the field is mandatory (mainly because no one complained about it).
