This is perhaps the most 2025 hed I've seen in 2025. (and a bit misleading, given that the data show that "possibility" to be 0%)

That said, where on the packaging line was there just some Cs-137 hanging out? That's not the sort of thing you get at Cash-'n'-Carry. Grad student storing it there ahead of a trip to a lake?

NBA star Kyrie Irving memorializes Gaza’s youngest activist as his profile picture

NBA star Kyrie Irving drew attention to the ongoing violence in Gaza by changing his Instagram profile photo to honor Yaqeen Hammad, an 11-year-old Palestinian child who was killed in an 'Israeli' airstrike.

Yaqeen, recognized as Gaza’s youngest media activist, was killed on May 24, 2025, during an airstrike in the besieged enclave. Her work documenting daily life under the aggression had gained her recognition for raising awareness of the situation facing children in Gaza.

Irving’s advocacy for Palestine is not new. The NBA star has consistently used his visibility to address the conflict, often at the cost of facing criticism.

Fort Worth Democrat confined to the Texas Capitol after quorum break

> House Speaker Dustin Burrows told lawmakers that members who broke quorum could only leave the House chamber upon agreeing in writing to be released into the custody of a Texas Department of Public Safety officer tasked with ensuring their return when the House reconvenes at 10 a.m. Wednesday.

Collier, in a text message to the Star-Telegram, said she “did not agree to sign their permission slip to have a DPS officer assigned to follow me around” and said she is not free to leave the Capitol.

"Vaughan was surprised to find it was often the technical staff, not marketing or sales, who dug in their heels."

So the people that understood it best were sceptical, and this didn't give him pause.

Can someone explain to me why all these empty suits dick ride LLMs so hard?

in reply to deathbird

Technical staff were skeptical because they actually know what AI can and can't do reliably in production environments - it's good at generating content but terrible at logical reasoning and mission-critical tasks that require consistancy.

How do I fact-check the news (step by step)?

I have recently talked to a Chinese friend of mine who started talking about how smart Trump is etc. She previously only gained her knowledge through the Chinese media and not the “western propaganda”, so it was her first exposure to the non-CCP-controlled stuff. I told her “you sound like you read FOX news”. She replied with “hahah yes, how did you know?”

This made me realize that she is very prone to getting manipulated and not doing any fact-checking. However, this situation made me reflect on my own news-sourcing skills.

How do you deal with the issue and what can I do step-by-step to verify the news that I read myself and at the same time a way that I can recommend to my Chinese friend so that she doesn’t fall for the most obvious tricks so easily?

Christian Bale and His Wife Are Building a Unique Village in California To Keep Siblings in Foster Care Together

Yes. The article came out in January but this was the first time I've heard of it.

Understand that class war isn't something that might happen in the future - it's already happening. The moneyed class is already fighting it.

They will, given the chance, destroy us and everything we value to pay for their own undeserved privilege.

Mamdani represents an opportunity for we the people to direct some of the bounty of this nation beck to ourselves instead of all if it being stolen to pay for more mansions and bigger yachts for a handful of sociopaths, and they know it. They know that they're not going to be able to bask in the luxury for which they lust if we start electing politicians who actually represent our interests instead of theirs. And greedy, vicious, self-serving shitweasels that they are, they're going to do whatever they can to try to stop us.

Techrights — GitHub Won't Last Much Longer

Not sure if I 100% see it happening "soon" but we are seeing a general shift in where repos are being created/maintained.
in reply to mesa

Most of the applications I use host their code on GitHub. I'm actively looking for replacements for as many of them as possible, because it's just immoral to participate with Microsoft, IMO.

But that's a poor article. A more accurate headline might be "Concerns about GitHub's parent company, Microsoft". But that wouldn't generate the same attention.

the writers of this season of Reality are apparently just reusing jokes that 30 Rock left on the cutting room floor

in reply to spit_evil_olive_tips

In 2018, a woman named.... Reality Winner... yes for real, whistleblew the fact that Russian hackers got their hands on US voter rolls ahead of the 2016 election and was sent to prison for this.

So I'm pretty sure she won Reality already and we're all on the cutting room floor right now.

in reply to akosgheri

What an idiotic name change. There's absolutely no reason to keep a legacy Microsoft connection to a rebrand. News Opinion World sounds like it should be a late-stage Simpsons joke.

in reply to Sunshine

The poultry project has been pitched as an integrated solar and chicken farm, a new land use practice known as agrivoltaics. But agrivoltaics projects typically pitch a vision somewhat resembling animals grazing underneath solar panels — not hundreds of thousands of confined chickens packed into sheds.

Just another developer trying to green wash their bullshit.

Move over TESCREAL, R9PRESENTATIONALism is here.

As found by @gerikson here, more from the anti anti TESCREAL crowd. How the antis are actually R9PRESENTATIONALism. Ottokar expanded on their idea in a blog post.

Original link.

I have not read the bigger blog post yet btw, just assumed it would be sneerable and posted it here for everyone's amusement. Learn about your own true motives today. (This could be a troll of course, boy does he drop a lot of names and thinks that is enough to link things).
