New Jersey police chief faces domestic violence charges in Massachusetts, prosecutor says

A New Jersey police chief is facing domestic violence charges in Massachusetts after prosecutors accused him of assaulting a woman at a hotel earlier this year.

Carmen Veneziano, who leads Totowa, New Jersey’s police department, was indicted Thursday on one count of kidnapping and three counts of domestic assault and battery, officials in Suffolk County, Massachusetts, said.

In a brief statement Sunday, prosecutors alleged Veneziano confined and assaulted a woman overnight on Sept. 14, in a hotel room in Boston’s Back Bay neighborhood.

This smells so badly of AI-slop.

If their mission is actually real, I hope they succeed. Spending some time writing an article asking people for donations would probably help that. After all, if the can't be bothered to write it, why should I bother reading it, let alone giving them money for it.

EDIT: OP linked the teams's response on the topic, it seems they had to adhere to some Kickstarter's AI-generated templated: hachyderm.io/@dotmeow/11575744…

heya, while we can see where you're coming from, this text was written by a professional copy-writer and no LLM. The heavy usage of em-dashes is the result of a) them loving em-dashes (I personally prefer en-dashes, alas) and b) us basing our text on Kickstarter guidelines which itself is referencing successful projects. These may as well have been written by an LLM which could give that GPT-vibe. Unfortunately we're now stuck with what we got as you can't edit after submittal.

Whatever the case, we heavily dislike LLMs. Some of us are artists or professional writers and directly impacted, others just dislike LLM slop out of ethical grounds. You can scroll through our personal socials (linked on the Who-section of our website) to see each of our individuals stance on LLMs, if you want some kind of "proof".

gin and tonic contains a malaria-preventing dose of quinine and is an extremely popular drink that is also a vaccine. I cant seem to find the article on that one, where is it please?

in reply to millennial fulcrum

Now you've got me wondering if the bitterness of quinine makes it thermogenic. I need to look into that at some point.

Best Original Trilogy Restoration as of today ?

Hi,
Sorry to ask this here, but I have to start somewhere.

I’ve recently become interested in the original trilogy restorations, and I have to admit I’m a bit lost among all the different versions out there: Silver Screen Edition, 4K77 (80 and 83), D+ Projects, Harmy’s Despecialized, and other fan edits. I honestly don’t know where to begin.

As of now, which version would you recommend for the best quality and the one closest to the original theatrical releases?

Thanks for any guidance you can provide!

in reply to Tiritibambix

The one Disney is clearly currently working on. Harmy compared the purposely leaked clips against his project's best work and it far surpassed it.

But otherwise the 4K77 etc...

Just installed updates from Pacman, not even touching the AUR. Now when I reboot machine, this happens. It just reboots itself and the cycle repeats itself. Any solutions?

FYI for anyone not too familiar with GN: the GNCA channel focuses more on advocacy, so expect more of Steve's opinions in this video than you'd normally see in a GN video.

I made fruitcake from scratch. It's not as sticky or as sweet as what you can buy, and the fruit tastes like real fruit. I consider it a success (although I admit that it is an acquired taste).

Why Does Essaouira Feel So Different? The City That Calms Some and Haunts Others

Essaouira isn’t just a coastal city — many visitors describe a strange emotional shift the moment they arrive.

Some feel deep calm, others experience unease, nostalgia, or even anxiety.

Is it the wind, isolation, history, or collective memory of the place?

This article explores the psychological impact of Essaouira and why certain places affect our minds so strongly

What are some of your stupidly easy sauces? (Emphasis on the "stupidly easy".)

In a pinch when out of tartar sauce I've mixed green relish with mayo and it's, passable.

For that matter, mayo with hot sauce and ketchup was my accompaniment to some otherwise bland pizza and tater tots this afternoon.

Microwave Hollandaise sauce. Can go wrong easily, but when I wanted it quick it works fairly well. Just have to tend the microwave every 15-20 seconds to mix it before it coagulates. But it's done its job more than once for me.

What easy things can I make with almond meal?

So I got a small bag of almond meal and I know nothing about it, except that it's mainly used for baking (which I'm hopeless at). I'm broke and low on food so I can't afford to not eat it, or get a recipe really wrong. Is there anything with almond meal I can cook in a fry pan or in a grill?

"Wa" comes from wafuku 和服 (Japanese clothes).

Caviar bumps, cost jumps: US consumers on how they’re dining in Trump’s economy

On a Tuesday in December, a Guardian reporter and photographer set out around Atlanta to ask people how they felt about food, 11 months into Donald Trump’s second administration. We asked people from widely different socioeconomic conditions – from those who were wondering where their next meal might come from to those who spend more in a month on food than an average family spends on a mortgage.

Here is what we found.

This is a series of vignettes, so I won't try to summarize.

Never heard of him, but I look forward to seeing his performance.

The rumor mill had Matt Smith as Brainiac, which I think would have worked well, but I do like "unknown" actors in big roles, and I expect Brainiac will be around for a while. Hopefully Matt Smith can find a different superhero role for his superhero film debut, it's Smithin' Time.

Lars Eidinger is a German actor who has done a lot of theatre work, most notably the renowned part of "Jedermann" at Salzburger Festspiele for two years, and also some movies. Has won quite a few acting awards in german-speaking countries.

I'm expecting people to compare him with Christoph Waltz given his career history
