Indonesia announced it has trained up to 20,000 troops to support health and
reconstruction efforts in Gaza as part of a potential international peacekeeping mission, Defence Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin said on Friday.
While Jakarta has been in talks with Washington about a multinational stabilisation force, the government stressed that no deployment decision has been made, underscoring ongoing uncertainty over any foreign presence in the devastated enclave.
Sjamsoeddin said Indonesia is "ready at maximum capacity" for Gaza but is waiting for a clear mandate, adding that President Prabowo Subianto will determine the final troop numbers and timing. Indonesia insists it would only participate with a UN Security Council mandate.
The defense minister emphasized that Indonesia's potential role would be strictly humanitarian: medical support, rebuilding infrastructure, and assisting Gaza's recovery amid the devastation caused by Israeli attacks.
