I am convinced that this is the last call for Europe's progressive anti #war forces: either they find a way to unite on a single goal-opposition to #ReArmEurope and a future of misery and militarism-or they will be completely irrelevant and damned by the people

This does not look like human behavior. Again today, my Mastodon account is followed by dozens of new anonymous accounts, and they all follow exactly 40 other accounts.

@renchap I do not want to be reading tea leaves here, but can you understand my concern that this could be a bot net system generating spam profiles in bulk?

Can you think of any technical explanation why I am seeing so many similar accounts following exactly 40 other accounts?

in reply to Randahl Fink

I've read tea leaves. This is way less subjective. This is akin to throwing a handful of scrabble letters and them landing as "B.O.T.N.E.T." ๐Ÿ˜‚
in reply to Randahl Fink

There are of course many bot accounts, so that could be the explanation for these, but if you are part of a starter pack you will get many accounts following you that follows the exact same list of people.

I canโ€™t find a starter pack at fedidevs that contains you, and as far as I know they are the largest collections of starter packs, so itโ€™s a less likely explanation in your case.

Good morning!

Today I passed a couple out walking when I went out for my early-morning walk. With the temperature in the 30s F, the woman was wearing a puffy coat with the hood up and tied tight around her face. The man wore shorts and a light hoodie, hood down. I had to laugh.

My attire was much closer to what the woman was wearing.

Annie won't eat the special food. It's heartbreaking to hear her cry while sitting next to the full bowl.

I'm going to call the vet again today to see what she has to say.

Have a good one, my friends.

Speaking of sidewalk ice, here's a treacherous street corner. In March there are block-long stretches of ice like this. Once I slipped and fell on one of them. I caught myself with my hands, got up, and kept walking. Then I smelled something gross. I was sniffing at the air trying to identify it. I brought my (gloved) hands to my face and sniffed, and they smelled like shit. That frozen meltwater included a full winter's worth of uncollected dog poop from the adjacent park. I tossed the gloves
in reply to dillyd

And aside from the ice, in my town it's becoming routine to see dog poop on and near sidewalks. We have a dog and walk him constantly so we see this. What's wrong with people?

@FediTips, Iโ€™m having a lot of trouble with the mastodon iPhone app where all of a sudden while reading a toot the screen jerks and Iโ€™m pushed to 5 or 10 posts down. I have to scroll back up to continue reading what I was before being interrupted. Then it happens again. Iโ€™m suspecting this is possibly because some of the posts with links render a preview and causes all posts under it to realign vertically. Is this a known issue? Any recommendations? #askfedi #Mastodon

@OliviaVespera makes the app very hard to use and hurts my eyes each time it does that. Wonder if thereโ€™s a solution like using a different client?
in reply to Yazad

This seems to be a bug on the official app so switching to another app should solve it.

I would strongly recommend using a third party app anyway, most people who try them prefer them.

It's basically impossible to get Vumatel to fix a fibre connection - all morning doing tests with the ISP and sending them requested test info, which shows slow speeds and intermittent 0 mbps upload speed . Now this ๐Ÿ‘‡ and it appears they are playing us for fools. I'm thinking to terminate the service and go with Vodacom 5G. #Emacs is great. Adapting #orgmode is great as well. It delivers a ton of useful features for my everyday work which I could not do without or with any software alternative.

However, with a sufficient complex setup, upgrading software causes things to break. This time: :emacs: 28.x โžก๏ธ 30.1

Currently, tag completion of org headings is broken, linking to contacts is broken (helm-org-contacts), some larger Org buffers can't be saved (without switching to text-mode first), my magit-status window doesn't work and I'm not sure what other stuff is hidden below that doesn't work. ๐Ÿ˜ฉ

I guess you can't have such an excellent custom environment without that pain. ๐Ÿ˜ข

in reply to Ramin Honary

@ramin_hal9001 for the amateurs, how would that help in these kinds of cases? (i know zero about type checking basically) my understanding of the magit issue is that it can easily arise through dependency clashes, like from having frankenstein situation of half updated but still some old version lying around getting loaded, at least from memory.
in reply to mousebot

for the amateurs, how would that help in these kinds of cases?

@mousebot @publicvoit type checking isnโ€™t really for end users, it is for the developers of packages. So if an update occurs, if for example, some API in Emacs shifts from version 29 to version 30, the type checker will be able to tell developers of packages like Org Mode or Magit which APIs broke, things that maybe are missed by the unit tests that donโ€™t have 100% coverage.

The type checker could have other goals as well, for example, rolling back a package installation if it can be shown that the upgrade could cause some things to break. It depends on the goals of the type checker, what problems we are trying to prevent, and how we can go about proving through types when the thing we are trying to prevent happens.
