It hurts me to say this, as an #American, but people need to avoid the #USA for 2 years, at least, 2027, when the #Democrats can get a majority in #Congress and stonewall #Trump

If that doesn't happen (which would be a serious tragedy), then 4 years. And if we get a #MAGA/ Trump president in 2029, write off this country for a generation at least

all there is and ever will be in this world is the good fight

whether in free and fair elections, or being rounded up into concentration camps, or any situation in between

never give in to hopelessness, cynicism, defeatism. by doing that, you only aid those who wish to abuse you

you fight

today, tomorrow, forever

this is our world, an eternal struggle. all it ever was and ever will be

all we can ever win is making that an easier effort

another day, another binary file format with a badly designed magic number

not gonna call it out specifically but here are some RFC2113 MUSTs for magic number design:

MUST be the very first N bytes in the file
MUST be at least four bytes long, eight is better
MUST include at least one byte with the high bit set
MUST include a byte sequence that is invalid UTF-8
SHOULD include a zero byte, but you can usually get away with having that be part of the overall version number that immediately follows the magic number (did I mention that you really SHOULD put an overall version number right after the magic number, unless you know and have documented exactly why it's not necessary, e.g. PNG?)

good examples:

  • PNG
  • ELF

bad examples:

  • GIF
  • PE
  • PDF

Here is an alt-text description for the image:

A full-body digital art image shows a fair-skinned elf woman in a green and gold fantasy warrior outfit against a dark grey background. She has long, blonde hair and pointy ears. Her outfit consists of gold shoulder and chest armor, green sleeves, and a green tunic over a silver scale mail skirt. A brown pouch hangs on her hip. She also wears gold leg armor and black shoes. Her face is serious, and she has freckles. At the bottom of the image, the name "GLORYA" and the website "glorya.artstation.com" are written.

At some point we gotta talk about the crash out of US higher education to protect a genocidal regime and the permanent ramifications of it.

Universities in the US have come out and said they will criminalize you for standing for what’s right and will not protect you from kidnapping from the government.

The ripple effect of this will change education in the US.

And honestly? It’s about time.

Anyone else out there getting intermittent "HTTPS not available" errors on sites where HTTPS is definitely available, on sites where you're confident the team doesn't make that grade of mistake?
in reply to Dan Veditz

potentially, if it's a particular responder that's slow (although it's maybe unlikely we'll hit the same one, since we're not in the same area)

I'm also locked into DoH on a Canadian provider, but I guess I don't understand how DoH and OCSP intersect/interact, if at all.

My OCSP theory seems to be incorrect? But Firefox has an update pending....

Edit: updated Firefox and now I cannot reproduce.

(Y'all I know this isn't your fault but "Firefox stops working right when there's an update pending" has been haunting me for at least a decade.)

in reply to mhoye

@dveditz is that the "firefox has been updated out from under you, so you have to restart the main process so it can launch the right content processes" issue?
in reply to dana

@dana @dveditz no, my understanding is that’s limited to Linux. This is a cross platform problem that we have never solved.
in reply to mhoye

@dana @dveditz We are aware of slow DoH in Canada. It appears to be a bug in the server software that is being investigated by the vendor.
in reply to mhoye

@dana @dveditz There isn't a bug number, this is being discussed on the partner mailing list for the most part.
in reply to Lars Eggert

@lars @dana @dveditz Thank you. If it helps at all, I'm seeing it a few times a day now; my ISP is TekSavvy, if that matters.

One thing is that waiting briefly and reloading doesn't seem to help, which suggests there's also a caching problem on my end. Is there anything I can do about that?

(also: why does about:prefs say "cloudflare" when my settings say CIRA?)

in reply to mhoye

Which pref says cloudflare?
The one that is actively used to point to the DoH server network.trr.uri
If that one says cloudflare when the UI says CIRA, that would indeed be a bug.

People are literally saying that if Dems don't support the GOP's lame continuing resolution that that's exactly what Musk wants. So to really fight back against these fascists, dems must work deals with them and make sure that the fascists don't actually fail.

Brilliant plan.

What is the best job in the world? Without a doubt: game show host.

On a radio appearance, Wheel of Fortune’s Vanna White delivered the shocking news that she works just 34 days a year, meaning she gets 331 days off. Also, the pay isn’t bad. After reportedly not getting a raise for 18 years, White negotiated a “substantial pay increase” above her existing $3 million/year in a new contract, per TMZ.

: the Netherlands govt may be disintegrating as we toot (that would be great, although most Dutch voters have not resisted the propaganda spilled out over them - on the contrary - so I'm not sure that they've seen enough lunacy from the US).

Our PM Schoof was stabbed in his back (by three of the four political parties responsible for our current government) for promising that NL would contribute to the 800 M€ EU defense plan.

A tiny majority in the Dutch parliament now makes Schoof look like a fool.

For the first time in his life he told the parliament to GFY. The debate will continue tonight IIRC.

Hey Google Meet? Thanks for making my Thursday all the bit harder by removing the "return to main room" option when moderating a breakout room session in your platform. This was aweful and unintuitive. The "activities" tab > breakout rooms > main room heading showed me the folks in the main room, but no option to "join main room" at all listed. I was frantically hunting around with my camera and microphone off whilst the people probably wondered why I hovered around in their room. Just wow.
Workaround: I ended up joining through Google Meet on the phone. When I did, Google meet sent an alert, "you've been invited to join Breakout Room (X)" and I hit "cancel" there. Then, I was placed into the main room. Facepalm. The last time I did one of these about 2-3 months ago, there was a clear "return to main room" button at the top of the screen, and it's just not there now. I'm so, so disappointed by this.
