And here is one of the many reasons why I’ve never latched onto the idea of #AutonomousVehicles as being the revolutionary game-changer so many of my #blind friends think it is. There’s just way, way too much out of your control, and even now there are times when manual override is required. Really sorry but I will die on this hill if necessary. mas.to/@JorgeStolfi/1141794508…

Fully agree. There are some things I will never be able to do. Driving a car, flying an aircraft, many things. I'm 100% ok with that. Believe it or not abled people can't do everything, either. Ugh. I also couldn't live with myself if my car killed someone's dog or their grandma. So... I won't be partaking in self driving cars.

I’m sure Peter Hitchens writes vile stuff in the Daily Fail most weeks, but this has belatedly caught my eye from a few days ago.

He’s decided that #Dyslexia and #ADHD don’t exist.

He’s blaming parents and teachers for not teaching kids how to read.

A quick online search reveals he’s been spouting this pet theory since the mid noughties.

Zero evidence. Just spite.

While reactionary dinosaurs like Hitchens seem to wonder why life didn’t just stay caught in the aspic of their blinkered 1950’s childhood…Cambridge researchers believe that #dyslexia actually played a key part in human survival, exploration, invention and creativity.

Having worked with many innovative dyslexics I know where my money is. And yes, one of those is my partner, a librarian.

For those like Hitchens who still think #Dyslexia has exploded in the 21st century because of lazy, woke, leftwing teachers…try reading this.

Then imagine you are a young child who cannot read..but desperately wants to read and catch up with their classmates:

The image is a meme divided into two panels. The top panel shows a character lying on the ground, wearing a green cloak, with a solemn expression. The text overlay reads, "I would have followed you... my captain... my king..." The background consists of fallen leaves, suggesting an outdoor setting.

The bottom panel features the same character, now with a bloodied face, looking distressed. To the right, there is a game interface displaying an item named "Boromir's Gauntlets," which provides +4 defense. The description humorously notes, "Daddy's gift to his favorite and only son. Offers no toe protection." The character's name, "Boromir," is visible at the bottom of the interface. The background is blurred, focusing attention on the character and the game interface.

What could possibly go wrong?

I thought the hope was to invent ways for nature to degrade plastics.

The image depicts a character standing in a dynamic pose, with a background of vibrant, swirling colors. The character is wearing a dark blue and orange outfit, including a headscarf, a long-sleeved top, a skirt, and boots. The outfit features intricate patterns and a belt with a red accent. The character holds a curved sword in their right hand and appears to be casting a spell with their left hand, as indicated by the glowing blue energy emanating from it. The background is filled with streaks of blue, pink, and white, suggesting motion or magical energy. The character's stance and the glowing effects convey a sense of action and power.

That's terrifying and I'm glad I have no idea how do make that happen.

I wish I could make it *stop* happening! I mean, I must be close to two years without using it!

Oh thank goodness for that.

About 30 years ago, health authority officials found out, that some deer meat sold in Germany was actually from kangaroo tails. It was just fraud by misdeclaration, there was no problem using it as food. You can't distinguish by taste, neither.

You might as well throw your Echo and Alexa-powered devices in the trash like you should have done years ago.

Arcade dude messages to say hey Dan how many minutes d'you think this Portal pinball machine will remain functional, and I gotta go find the thread where I clown on the worst pinball machine I've ever seen until the CEO emails my workplace and tries to get them to sack me mstdn.social/@ifixcoinops/1099…
in reply to Dan Fixes Coin-Ops

What's the CEO emailing bit cos that's pretty Barbara Streisand or something, but I couldn't find it in that (humongous) thread. [And now a terrible spelling of humongous is in my phone dictionary because I couldn't spell it right the first time and what the icon for what looks like "look it up" is actually "add"]
in reply to Robin

@eythian yeah dude read the whole thing and sent my client an angry email about it lol

I honestly went SO EASY on that machine in that thread tbh, there were so many other things I could've lol'd about on that

I loved Window Maker, I used it in the late nineties / early 2000's.
I've discovered this project this evening, I can't wait to try it, at first in a VM:

Yeah I saw that and am tempted to give it a whirl as it's also available on FreeBSD. Certainly brings back memories.

The US government is taking an ax to the trunk of the tree that is the rule of law, and this particular judge is not having one millisecond of it.

As has been the case for the past nearly 2 months, the question is now whether the words of a judge still have any power at all.
