"People are fleeing Austin, #Texas in droves. The city lost -13,500 ppl to outbound migration in 2024.

The biggest drop the city has ever experienced.

This outmigration has now caused Austin's #housing market to collapse. With home prices down 19.5% over the last two+ years.

Some of these ppl leaving Austin head to the suburbs like Williamson & Hays County, others are going back to CA & NY."

The FreeBSD team conquered a massive 7,000 bug backlog 💪 Once overwhelmed by thousands of open issues, the team, with the help of data visualization tools, turned chaos into clarity.

Their approach involved setting up custom dashboards using GrimoireLab, which provided valuable insights into their Bugzilla system. They introduced new metrics like "unattended" and "abandoned" tickets to prioritize their efforts.

More than 10.000 scientists from or working in Germany have by now signed the Scientists for Future @S4F appeal to politicians, parliament and the next government.

Calling on them to not make the mistake of considering climate and nature protection a side issue; but to communicate about it honestly, and soberly base socially aware environmental politics on facts.

To be handed over next Monday, when our new parliament convenes.

Can still be signed until then:

The image depicts a fantasy character, likely an elf, clad in detailed, metallic armor. The armor is predominantly silver with gold accents and features spikes and angular designs, suggesting a blend of protection and intimidation. The character holds a large, ornate sword with a blue hilt and a yellow gem, indicating a high level of craftsmanship. The character's hair is auburn and flows down, with pointed ears visible, enhancing the elf-like appearance. The background is a mix of dark and fiery hues, with a smoky atmosphere, adding to the dramatic effect. The character's eyes are a striking blue, contrasting with the metallic tones of the armor. The overall composition suggests a scene of readiness for battle or a moment of significant action.

"California legislators have begun debating a bill (A.B. 412) that would require AI developers to track and disclose every registered copyrighted work used in AI training. At first glance, this might sound like a reasonable step toward transparency. But it’s an impossible standard that could crush small AI startups and developers while giving big tech firms even more power."

The idea that you shouldn't be expected to know what data you're using to train your systems and that doing so is "an impossible task" is so normalized that its hard to know that this was not always the case even in the field of AI.

Data theft and scraping became completely normalized, along with the exploitation of crowdworkers, with the advent of photo sharing and other platforms and others like amazon mechanical turk.

So now NOT exploiting people and stealing data is the anomaly.

One of the oldest arguments against giving any rights or process to the people we accuse is — one constantly “rediscovered” by the shallow and the dim — is “well they didn’t give their victims any rights or process.” That’s fatuous. /1

Trump has been railing online today about impeachment of judges, including J. Boasberg, who is presiding over the Venezuelan deportation case. He’s precipitated an unusual public response from Chief Justice Roberts who condemned calls for impeachment over disagreements about judicial rulings. 1/ news.bloomberglaw.com/us-law-w…

I think there is still good reason to believe that the Roberts Court will eventually expand the President’s national security powers beyond all precedent and U.S. constitutional design. I understand Roberts as attempting to simultaneously reassure Trump about that while also seeming to stand firm on behalf of federal judges. This eat and have your cake too approach is very much Roberts’ style. 3/
in reply to Heidi Li Feldman

Roberts wants Trump to tone down his rhetoric to make it easier to give Trump the dictatorial powers he is demanding. Now, Roberts might ultimately rule more narrowly than Trump want - though Roberts certainly gave Trump everything he asked for in the Presidential immunity case. 4/

#Trump will talk with #Putin over phone today to discuss a 30-day ceasefire, the NYT reports.

The talk will concern territorial concessions and energy infrastructure.

Putin agreed to #ceasefire on March 13, but said there were 'nuances'.

#Putin is demanding that #US and allies cut military aid to Ukraine in exchange for a 30-day ceasefire, Bloomberg reports.

European officials had rejected this demand.

This would allow #Russia to rearm and launch serious strikes after the ceasefire expires.

The next play at the theater is Mary Chase's Harvey (perhaps best known the film version starring Jimmy Stewart).

I'm helping design the set this time -- an exciting step up from just building the set.

A friend suggested that we play Harvey by Her's after curtain, and now I've got this dreamy little song very stuck in my head.

En sécurité informatique, ça s'appelle une attaque MITM.

Est-ce que la "protection" que vous apporte CloudFlare est assez intéressante pour livrer en contrepartie tous les mots de passe de vos utilisateurs à une boîte privée américaine ???

I may care that it is unfinished, or uneven, but the time period for which this road surface will persist is surely not relevant?

While Trump and Putin are massaging each other’s egos over the phone, it appears Ukraine is attacking the Russian oblast of Belgorod.

According to Russian telegram channels there is Ukrainian troop presence near the Russian villages of Prilissya, Grafivka, and Demidivka, and the area is being evacuated.

This is happening while Ukrainian forces are being pulled from Kursk, so it may be these troops relocating (red arrow).

This is a new development which has not been confirmed by either side.

in reply to Randahl Fink

For every force holding a line or on an offensive, there are actually two, even if they have the same name. They rotate.

#Ukraine was not pushed out of #Kursk, it chose to leave. So as they exit Kursk to be rested, there is another group of rested top fighters somewhere doing something.

Belgorod actually makes sense.
