EU Politicians Make Push For Radio Free Europe Funding After Trump Cuts - rferl.org/a/czech-eu-rfe-fundi… this is a triply good idea: good for RFE, good for EU, and good for listeners
in reply to Glyn Moody

radio remains important because it bypasses artificial walls put up by govts, penetrates across areas during disasters, works when the Internet is crippled by any outage. It also reaches rural areas where listeners are not on the Internet. Always good to have it ready, rather than try to re-establish it with urgency later on.

I bought a Tesla years ago to try to help the environment. Now it sucks that some shithead might damage my car. I used to be afraid of ultra-conservatives doing it, now I am afraid of the left. I voted for Kamala. Leave my car alone.

Banded Huntsman Spider (Genus Holconia) spotted on a wall of an outhouse in the very remote Macquarie Marshes region of NSW. Beautiful markings on what I assume to be a female - which was about the size of my hand. Left undisturbed and unharmed.

This is wonderful but a content warning might be appropriate as some folks are really phobic. Cheers.

Vaipahi Gardens are beautifully maintained gardens good for hiking. The gardens have about 75 different plant species, a small river with a waterfall and a lake with lots of different fish. We loved the serenity and beauty. backpackandsnorkel.com/Tahiti/…

Ant mimics look like AI generated ants. Both of the following photos made my "is that AI" sense twitch, but these are both real photos of ants along side a rove beetle mimic in the first and a spider mimic in the second.

Maybe the way that AI is adjacent to mimicry is part of what makes it creep me out so much.

I’ve documented how musicians can make more money for each track sold (losing less to the payment processor for each small transaction): nham.co.uk/2025/03/musicians-h…

I don't think artists can make money from selling songs online. I know I've never been able to. I'm beginning to think that, more and more, selling online is a scam, and always was.

@kel They said the rate is for payments under £5 only. Over £5 would be subject to the original rate.

I'm struggling with b/w photography a bit. In my mind, nature is all about colours. So I grabbed the camera, changed the settings, and went to see if I can make it work. All the images are straight from camera.

Sorry, no alt texts this time. It was just too much.

Lions rescued from Ukraine arrive at the purpose built Lion Rescue Centre at the Big Cat Sanctuary.

One arrived at the sanctuary last year. The other four have been living temporarily in Belgium while their new habitat was being built. They were collected last week to travel to their new permanent home. All the lions will need special care after suffering trauma and in some cases injuries in the war zone.

The Big Cat Sanctuary is doing amazing work. They recently led the efforts to re-home a large number of cats of various species from a so-called sanctuary that was closed down by the authorities and its owner prosecuted for welfare violations.

They're a charity, so can always use donations, or to have something bought for them from their Amazon Wish List. They have a great YouTube channel too.

Train it with garbage? Or you mean a sort of subtle way, adding a small fraction of garbage to the training set and generating a bias for the full trained network?

I meant biased in an intentional way that would actually convince someone. Or perhaps subtlety is not actually necessary, and it suffices to flood all information channels with sufficient misinformation? (I'd hate for that to be the case...)
