Due to the reality of British libel laws and #ElonMuskβs propensity to sue his detractors i have to assume this is one of the most heavily legally vetted and fact checked things you will ever read. (Also not unreasonable to suspect there might be other tidbits of information the lawyers wouldn't sign off on being published - that happened a *lot* with FT's Wirecard investigation)
p.s. the FT reporter is #DanMcCrum, whose decade long crusade to take down the #Wirecard fraud is one of the more insane stories you can read on the subject of accounting based forensic journalism (McCrum wrote a book about the experience called βMoney Menβ). Trust me, it's more exciting than it sounds. There's Russian spies and shit.

Today, the Financial Times has released a new report: Compare Teslaβs capital expenditure in the last six months of 2024 to its valuation of the assets that money was spent on, and $1.4bn appears to have gone astray.
The article points out that Tesla reports having spent $6.3 billion on βpurchases of property and equipment excluding finance leases, net of salesβ in the second half of 2024, while property, plant, and equipment rose by only $4.9 billion in that period.

Glad to have an opportunity to get in an outdoor ride this evening after work. It was super windy when I left, but dropping down into the valley in the #CVNP helped get a little shelter from it. Makes the 12 minute climb back up to my house at the end worth it.
