Today's hilarious fun fact: Microsoft doesn't provide a strings utility with windows, but they do have an official SysInternals one available on their website:

learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sysi…

But being Microsoft, this command line utility makes you agree to a EULA before it'll run.

in reply to Foone🏳️‍⚧️

Read the text right above the EULA, or the "/help". I also missed the "/accepteula" switch the first time I used the SysinternalsSuite.

My curiosity about the new Meshtastic 2.6 UI served as an excuse to pick up a T-Deck. I suppose I can also rationalize this as a testing device, but really I just think they're cool.

If you go through my feed I've been posting videos and pictures and local news articles about the protests that are going on every day all over the United States.

At any other time in my lifetime, this would have been swamping the landing pages on every #media outlet. I just checked CNN, CBS, and ABC and NOT ONE SINGLE WORD. They're all like Baghdad Bob: "There are no Americans protesting!"

If that makes you as angry as it makes me, let the networks know!

I keep reminding people of this, most mainstream media is not reliable, they want people to feel isolated and like nothing is being done.
in reply to Ricki Yasha Tarr

@RickiTarr
Yes! I just went to my 11th protest today since early February. I can't begin to describe how different this situation feels when you get out there and yell "Fuck Donald Trump!" in public with thousands of other people. The fear and anxiety evaporate and you get a cathartic expression of the anger.

That is indeed what the fascists DON'T want, so let's do it!

Privacy is Also Protecting the Data of Others

in reply to Nemeski

One of the points I often give to people who claim "I don't care about my privacy" is maybe others close them do, and endangering others' privacy and data security is an irresponsible decision as a partner, parent, friend or family member, so it's always good to raise awareness

Here's hoping that the parts I just ordered for my dryer fix it's inability to heat.

looks promising. those springy coil type things are known to get rather hot.

@misternineham so i'm told. Hopefully the new spring thing and a new thermister isn't reading 50% above it's max tolerance should help a bit.

Okay, I want to take a moment to talk about toot-shaming behavior on Fedi. But first, I want to thank the person who blocked me for introducing me to the term "pornado"—I will cherish it.

So, there's a kind of reply-person on Fedi who seems to like to *vocally* use moderation tools. It's not enough to block or report someone, they have to loudly announce it, to rub it in. It's a "fuck you *slams door*" kind of response.

I typed out a paragraph defending my OP, but you can see for yourself, it's linked below.

While discussing where to take this post, my girlfriend pointed out that the behavior whiffs of the same thing I was talking about in my "doubt caltrops" post. It's a way of policing behavior that isn't against any rules, but that *they* find personally objectionable.

Just filter/block/report as necessary and move the fuck on.

I mean, honestly, if someone sets up a CaturdayPornado hashtag, I'm following it now out of spite ;)
in reply to Krista, Darth Moose Shark

Whatever a caturday pornado is: it sounds awesome, and I would absolutely look at it at least once.
in reply to 🅰🅻🅸🅲🅴 (🌈🦄)

I once did something similar: I loudly declared that I unfollowed someone on Twitter and why (at least to the extent possible in 140 characters—yes, this was about 15 years ago). My intent was wholly to provide them with feedback, so they could adapt their posts and know what works and could gain followers.
It was a wildly egocentric action, assuming people were making content for an audience (i.e. me) instead of just posting what they wanted to share, and I was rightfully blocked (which I found out when I came across their profile years later and wanted to follow their cool stuff and couldn't).
Moral of the story: it's a dick move that burns bridges more than anything else.

I'm currently reading "The Witch of Little Italy" by Suzanne Palmieri.

I like the book so far. I'm about 2/3 of the way through. I'm a sucker for a story that centers witches and magical realism and this book has that. It also has a lot of complicated relationship/family drama, wrapped up in mystery and lost memories.

The state of California is warning 23andMe customers to delete their data because odds are good that the company is going to go bankrupt.

If I were you I would prioritize doing this.

You do not want your genetic data to end up in a bankruptcy court, where it ends up in the hands of the highest bidder. If you ever used 23andMe, do this now.

Make sure to follow the instructions in the "To Destroy Your 23andMe Test Sample" and "To Revoke Permission for Your Genetic Data to be Used for Research" sections *before* deleting your account or you won't be able to log in to do so.

Step 3: Declare War and suspend the rule of law at home so you can create internment camps full of brown people (operated by for profit corporations) and declare anyone that protests an enemy combatant. Just ask any Japanese-American that was alive during WWII.
