Please help, fedi. I'd like to contact Norman A Hughes, the artist that painted this, or his heirs:
artuk.org/discover/artworks/op…

I want to contact them to discuss licensing that image, but I can't find any trace of him online.

Boosts appreciated.

To move forward with converting the folding bike to electric, I've needed a pair of 20-inch aluminum rims. No one local is selling or giving any away on Craigslist, and i feel bad about the idea of buying a used bike just to take its wheels.

So I've been riding our local river paths for the last couple weeks looking for rims. Today, i finally found a pair that will work.

The River doth provide to those who remain faithful.

in reply to Emily Velasco

Yay! Let's hope today's the day you don't find that your frame takes 451s, and those are 406s
in reply to Stewart Russell

@scruss they are the same size as the rims that are on the bike, though I know those rims aren't even the original rims, and the fork isn't even the original fork. It all seems like it will fit fine
in reply to Stewart Russell

@scruss It was in very rough shape when I got it. It was missing the lower bearing cup from the head tube. The fork was bent and the threads were stripped. The knob on the nut that holds the two halves together was also missing. So were the handle bars.

I fabricated a new fork for it out of a bmx fork I found by the river and a piece I made on the lathe. I made a new handle for the nut on the lathe.

The reason I want aluminum rims on it is because if I'm going to motorize it, I want to be able to stop reasonably well, which chrome rims just don't do

in reply to Emily Velasco

you're preaching to the choir about chrome rims. I was a paperboy in very rainy Glasgow on chrome rims, and braking was best described as ... eventually

(Coaster brakes weren't really a thing in the UK)

While I was working on the toolbox, the crows were doing me a solid clearing the winter’s accumulation of moss.
in reply to dr_a

One of the few minor frustrations of living in Seattle is the vigor with which moss grows. The roof had been cleared of moss a couple of months ago. The big tree by the garage and the damp season(s) are great for moss growth.

"I have become what bullies create, and what bullies should fear -- calculated intelligent resistance."

Ethiopia banned the import of non‑electric vehicles a year ago, the first country worldwide to prohibit internal combustion engine cars completely. They've been expending $3 billion/year fueling their cars with imported fossil fuels, but not for long.

Going to experiment with 3D printing some plastic springs. Anyone have advice to share?
First step is to make some #FreeCAD geometry, which I thought would be less fiddly using a script. (It may very well not be, using a Array and Offset Geometry). Script works fine except I can't figure out how to add constraints -- but turns out they are not needed.

What is security
Password truncation?
In this day and age?
in reply to Cendyne

@bascule If your "passwords" are longer than 72 bytes, it's pretty clear you're not using the API as intended but trying to do something wacky with it. Okta FA'd and FO'd.
in reply to Cassandrich

@dalias @bascule Okta was concatenating IDs (emails?) and passwords on the way into the bcrypt function. Okta really FA'd and FO'd.

There is a big inrush of people and registrations on #MakerTube after c't #heise (a big German publisher in IT) uploaded a video about alternative platforms to the big US owned ones. I'm going through the registrations and letting people in, but I can't accommodate everyone. There are just not enough resources, and the focus of MakerTube is limited, see makertube.net/about/instance/t…
Maybe it's time to think about a platform with a bigger scope? #peertube

In parts of Asia, kite fighting is a popular sport, using kites whose kite strings are coated with ground glass so they can sever the strings of rival kites.

Will expert Thai and Afghan kite fighters suddenly be in high demand as a last line of defense against wire-guided killer drones?

LB: Last week, when I was feeling rough, I took myself off to the day bed in our studio to give H a fair chance of getting some sleep. I didn’t take my CPAP with me.

As a result, I had a whole bunch of dreams about not being able to breathe properly. Turns out I really do need my CPAP.

You know how in miniature painting people talk about there gray pile of shame, because usually the GW kits come in gray plastic? As a 3d printing guy I don’t have such a thing*! *=Yes I do but it isn’t gray(sometimes). 😅 I recently printed more minis and figurines which now lie around primed in black for me to never be touched again in a long time. 😱🤣 Well hopefully not. 😉 #miniaturePainting #3dPrinting #nerdlings
