The future of 450 million Europeans is in their hands.

Europe needs to be strong to protect it.

We're taking action: increasing defence spending, supporting Ukraine, and strengthening our industry. This is our ReArm Europe Plan / Readiness 2030, worth over €800 billion.

Our new action plan for competitive and environmentally friendly steel and metals and the Savings and Investment Union strategy will be key to delivering it.

Europe responds with actions.

If you do NOT want to be one of the many who remain blissfully uninformed β€” those who somehow can stay complacent amid increasing climate chaos β€” here is an excellent resource for learning what you need to know.

The World Meteorological Organization (WMO), an agency of the United Nations, provides an annual report on the state of the global climate. This year's effort includes a helpful explainer that covers all the basics with a few minutes reading.

SEE THE EXPLAINER ➑️ storymaps.arcgis.com/stories/4…

I'm going to pick out several highlights and discuss them in a thread below. This post will serve as an introduction. 🧡 1/5

You can find a link to download the full report here ➑️ wmo.int/publication-series/sta…

This graphic from the WMO report is one of the best visuals I have seen that clearly illustrates the connection between increasing greenhouse gas concentrations, rising temperatures, and reinforcing feedback loops that lead to devastating high-impact events with consequent risks to populations around the world.

It's not a pretty picture.

Not like the literally oath-breaking R members of congress will bring him to task about this lie. (Didn't do it for any of Trump's Supreme Court noms either...)
in reply to ProPublica

Oh yes, we do we do have replacements. They don’t have replacements, but I would like to suggest that every community has the capacity to make themselves car free.. we have to do much of this work anyway, because of the first poly crisis of climate, every community has to restore their watershed and then integrate themselves into natural systems, especially for local food production.

Car free plus local food equals 90% reduction in resources needed for modern economy

I identify with the guy on the left at a molecular level. This is following US politics. This is what it is like.

Only the "audience" keeps begging for more tricks and saying "no no no it's going to be real magic this time" over and over no matter how many tricks get debunked.

#Trump is now complaining about a portrait of him.
He said a portrait of him hanging in the Colorado State Capitol "was purposefully distorted to a level that even I, perhaps, have never seen before".
But I cannot see the problem. Can you?

I threatened y'all with it, so it's time to make good on the promise, and deliver my first real review/report on a non-fiction book from my reading queue.

In today's #blog post, I analyze (as best I can) Shohaku Okumura's Realizing Genjokoan, itself an analysis of the much older Shobogenzo Genjokoan text by the foundational 13th-century master Dogen Zenji.

It might be the most important book I read last year.

An interesting perspective. She and those in power see the USDA as regulation, while we see it as service and research. As we’ve seen before, it’s not just a problem on the right. Yesterday I was listening to an organic farmer, liberal, who had been surprised to find so much material available from the USDA and universities on organic farming questions he had. There’s the tendency for them to view those entities as controlled by business. Distortion all around.

@pdiff1 I saw Tim Walz recently saying that we have done a terrible job of telling people what government does. I think he's right.

Some people have tried. But we are swamped by people who think it's only taxes.

This contraption has been sitting outside the garage for ages. Finally got around to inspecting it. It's a #DIY chain flail mower, no respect for life edition.

Connects to tractor, PTO gearbox driving a rotating disc below with two short lengths of chain attached.

That is how chain flail mowers are normally built, except they have a steel cage around them because they fling stones and the occasional chain.

Also, it's way too close to the rear wheels.

@ddmgmgh Soviet era tools stand out for their lack of safety, although this was obviously self-made. But the mentality of disposable people echoes everywhere.

A commercial chain flail mower for comparison. With suitable distance from tractor wheels and steel cage with chain curtain. Still not advisable walk next to during use.

#NowPlaying classic early 80s synth stuff. The sound of straight-to-video sci-fi horror movies. This album is only about the 800th album in Tangerine Dream's discography of 4 trillion albums. You hear their influence everywhere in modern #electronic music. Arguably more influential than Kraftwerk (is that heretical?)

Yesterday, the people of #Paris voted "Oui" or "Non" to pedestrianizing and greening a further 500 streets in the city, and eliminating 10,000 parking spots.

The result: 66 percent, or two-thirds, voted "Oui"!
