You should see how that wretch Marjorie Taylor Greene spoke to a UK reporter. Just absolutely shameful, which is something she cannot experience.

NASA sidelines Cygnus spacecraft after damage in transit to launch site
"Following initial evaluation, there also is damage to the cargo module."
arstechnica.com/space/2025/03/…
in reply to Ars Technica

>NASA is now almost entirely reliant on SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket and Dragon spacecraft to get its astronauts to the space station and to feed them

Given Elon Musk's stated position that the ISS should just be de-orbited now, that seems like a bad position to be in.

in reply to Ars Technica

How do things like this keep happening? Accidents? Potholes? Mechanical failures? Human error? Wish we were given more details on these damaged space components...

in reply to Very Hairy Jerry

Oracle should have put the creds in a database.

Well, at least there is an offsite backup now.

in reply to Very Hairy Jerry

I love this story, because it means that either:

(1) Oracle straight-up lied about someone getting into their systems.

or

(2) Oracle *didn't know* someone got into their systems when they made their public denials.

I can't decide which is worse.

The inquiry into Meta was being watched closely as a test case for the agency’s expansion into regulating tech companies whose businesses intersect with financial services."

I'd imagine if the Saudis asked for the confidential chat logs of everyone in the White House they'd all happy oblige, no need to hack their phones.

@Sir_Osis_of_Liver It seems passive-aggressive, but a prank war in which the only shots exchanged are alcoholic is the only one the world needs.

The image features a meme with a humorous caption and a scene from a movie. The top part of the image has a black background with white text that reads, "Pippin accidentally getting added to the Sauron-Saruman-Denethor group chat." Below the text is a scene from a movie, showing a character with curly hair, wearing a light-colored tunic, holding a glowing, fiery object in his hand. The character appears to be in a state of shock or distress, with his mouth open wide and his head tilted back. The background includes a wooden door and some dark, indistinct objects, possibly bags or equipment. The overall tone of the image is humorous, playing on the idea of accidentally joining a group chat with powerful and potentially dangerous individuals.

Because it’s a day ending in Y, I had to “fix” another childproof bottle. This time, Tylenol had the cap that’s impossible to remove when the arthritis in my hands acts up.

The vast majority of childproof caps use this cap within a cap design, and neutering them is as simple as cutting off and discarding the outer cap. With photos showing how I do it.

The scissors used is a titanium EMT bandage shears. They’ll cut through a penny if needed. grainger.com/product/EMI-Shear…

I had to do this same thing because they used this type of lid on my BLO! It glued itself shut
in reply to frew

@frew Yep. Another person had the problem with Danish Oil (which is mostly BLO, IIRC). I think that’s the first bottle I ever “fixed” this way a few years back.

#CircuitPython controlled pocket operator. KB2040 is setup as a midi in device. Reason is sending out four midi tracks on four different midi channels. Each button/synth voice on the pocket operator is assigned a midi channel. When a note on message comes in on the corresponding channel, the button is triggered via GPIO through a mosfet. The DAC is controlling the pot that is used for notes for some of the synth voices #pocketoperator

I just had another listen to @meljoann’s new album, Status. This time accompanied by the lyrics in one tab and the song breakdowns from an article in an Irish underground culture mag in another.

Doing so took my understanding of and connection to the album to greater depths. I could say a lot but I’ll keep it to three brief things here:

1. I’m looking forward to the Rainbow Language (Is For Losers) video.
2. It’s mad that the article goes through what the songs and album are about and then finishes with ‘Follow Meljoann on Insta’, with no mention of her Fedi profiles. 🤦‍♂️
3. I highly recommend you do the same:
- Listen here: faircamp.meljoann.com/status/
- Lyrics here: meljoann.com/album-lyrics/stat…
- Track breakdown here: thethinair.net/2025/03/track-b…

Oh and of course, if you like it then buy it!

New blog post: Sunsetting Search. Does it apply to you?

in reply to Michael Kennedy

I'm still using search as much as before, even have set up my own meta search engine (powered by searxng) to get away from all the AI crap (and Kagi, after the CEO turned out to be a "keep the politics out of tech" bro). The only thing I use an LLM for is when I can't remember a word that I can still describe.

Eve is the attacker. Mallory is her partner.

There are many atrack scenarios. When designing, you have to ask yourself, how can Eve and Mallory attack my system?

Many questions. No simple answers.

Security is Hard. Seriously hard. If it was easy, everyone would do it.

Indeed, Alice and Bob are the victims and Eve the attacker! But where's the serpent in this allegory? We need to introduce a serpent. And an apple. Is there a worm in the apple? Has it been dipped in cyanide? So many questions!

Jokes aside, thanks for helping me get my memory back in working order.

"Six weeks into the new administration...the Internet Archive had cataloged some 73,000 web pages that had existed on U.S. government websites that were expunged after Trump's inauguration."

This is a well-written piece and crucial to know for all of us who want to preserve and protect truth.

Well done, NPR, for placing this article front page on their website earlier today.
