It baffles me how someone can miss the point so utterly.
As with so many aspects of the time weβre living in now, the humanity is totally bypassed to achieve some other goal, be it money, or power.
@futurebird So tell me, she who knows, I've got some bugs coming up in the next section of my series of novellas. What's a good documentary on ant behaviour, possibly bees, for me to steal some cool bits for my alien bugs? My characters will be literally crawling into the nest, so I need a good primer. A lecture recorded at a university might also work.

Humans kissing might also have roots in food sharing, the way that people used to chew food for babies when weaning them before we got all weird about that process.
The weaning food chewing thing kind of grosses me out. But, it makes so much sense... what are you going to do sitting in a cave? Give a baby a carrot? Invent the food processor?

To the team that designed and built it, then operated it for years, "babysat" it in the clean room, sent it off to Mars, and then sat in countless meetings day after day looking through its "eyes" out at the surface of another planet, caring for it through dust storms and cheering for it with each discovery, it was much more than "a f-ing robot."
So much more that I wrote a whole f-ing book about it ;) :
@cyberlyra @martinvermeer @pluralistic Randall also did a brilliant job with a live xkcd stream during the landing of Philae on Comet 67P in 2014.
But then arguably we at ESA did one of the finest ever jobs of anthropomorphising spacecraft & connecting them emotionally with the cartoons & stories about Rosetta & Philae β they still have the power to make me cry.
