There's a lot going on in the latest Dresden Codak but longtime close observers might agree that the most interesting detail is how this panel is mostly desaturated into grayscale.

Years ago Russia developed VK, an alternative to Facebook which replaced Facebook almost entirely in Russia. And China has WeChat.
Now that America has become a fascist shithole, what remains of the free world needs to work on developing alternatives. Facebook can be replaced easily and Apple, for the most part, is just overpriced crap.

Infinite Music Machine is a project by Michael Forrest, a generative composition which arranges human-played loops algorithmically. Originally an iOS app, its output is now available online as a kind of endless radio station.

Saying the quiet part out loud: billionaires don't want the little people around, they want us to quietly go away and stop existing on their dime (because obviously all the dimes belong to the deserving poor, er, billionaires).

This is eliminationist rhetoric, aimed at you (and me).

Very nice! Makes me want to reprint the covers for my clock with hex infill instead of the thin solid layers I have.

@seth It’s such an easy upgrade but I really think it helps a lot!

The image is a three-panel comic strip titled "How TTRPGs Proliferate." The first panel, labeled "SITUATION," states, "There are 14 competing TTRPGs." The second panel shows two stick figures, one saying, "14? Ridiculous! We need to develop a Universal System that covers everyone's use cases." The third panel, labeled "SOON," reads, "SITUATION: There are 15 competing RPGs. Half are D&D 3e retroclones. The other half are GURPS. But worse." The comic humorously illustrates the paradoxical situation where efforts to create a universal system for tabletop role-playing games (TTRPGs) lead to an even greater proliferation of competing systems.

Sure, I'd prefer a V30.
But on the other hand…

Look at this gorgeous 3d-printed iambic #MorseCode key! Definitely looks like you'd only want to print it with a resin printer, but with the magnets installed, I expect it would work great with a jeweler's block base.

Open source, comes with a complete BOM from McMaster, has STEP and STL as well as the original SW files. Very nice work.

I'd use longer screws and thumb nuts to lock them (I mean, for my key I did use longer screws and thumb nuts) instead of thread locker, but that's a personal choice. 😀

Anyone have issues with @Tutanota not receiving email notifications from Mastodon or is it not supported? NOT. EVEN. A. SINGLE. EMAIL.

To save money, maybe we should eat the rich for breakfast.

I wrapped up last night by baking a batch of oatmeal chocolate chip cookies. Each cookie is 90 grams and I used techniques from the Levain cookie recipe. I think I forgot to add the full amount of oats (did 3 cups instead of 4?) but they turned out well. I have a few ideas for next time as well.

Having pulled out from parts of Kursk, Ukraine is now attacking the Russian Oblast of Belgorod, and there are indications they are holding at least parts of the settlement of Demidovka, which Russia is now bombing and trying to take back.

Russian channels claim, Ukraine has thousands of troops in Belgorod, and I would not be surprised as leaving large areas of Kursk may have freed up Ukrainian troops.

Map from Deepstatemap. Blue arrows added by me for illustrative purposes.

in reply to Randahl Fink

When Russian sources claims Ukraine has "thousands of troops", that's probably somewhere between five guys with a farm tractor and fifty soldiers with a couple of armored vehicles.

Unless Russia has changed their exaggeration scale recently.

in reply to Randahl Fink

had there been thousand men in that area, they would have pushed far further into #Belgorod oblast, this is the typical #soviet style warfare where you fear the ones above you, so you make up things so it will not look like it's your fault things went badly.
