Gigabyte's Aorus Master 16 posts blistering gaming frame rates with its GeForce RTX 5080 and snappy all-around performance, but its plastic build leaves us a touch cold, given the hefty price. Here's our review: pcmag.com/reviews/gigabyte-aor…
in reply to PCMag

Plastic though doesn't conduct as much heat as metal and it's a lot lighter than aluminum. Have you seen how hot the Blades can get under load!?

New in PN: All the laws flouted during SignalGate

"There’s no excuse they can come up with that will be believable, because the truth is obvious — they recklessly defied numerous laws by discussing war plans in a Signal group. And once they got caught, they made things even worse by incessantly lying." publicnotice.co/p/signalgate-l…

Regarding ADPList: I volunteered early on but will be leaving as a mentee due to the founder's unethical actions (plagiarism, gaslighting). While I value the connections I've made, I can't support the platform.

I volunteered for ADPList when it first launched, being Vancouver's 1st ambassador and cheerleader. They wanted us to host events locally and life happened so I didn't reply to their requests for "volunteer" work in 2024.

I still meet wonderful people from the platform (recently connected to 3 PM's for informational interviews), the ethics of being there now bothers me.

In my research, I found this platform by Chris Mason of Intelligent People, i hope it helps Mentors & Mentees alike:

if anyone buys the new Switch 2, do the Switch 1 games get an upgrade with new graphics, without buying new specific versions for Switch 2, right!?

When was the first exoplanet discovered? You might read it was in 1992, but in fact the first evidence for the existence of alien worlds was found before then. Way before then.

Like, in *1917*.

I love this story.

The image features two men dressed in black suits, white shirts, and black ties, with black hats and sunglasses. They are standing side by side against a blue background. The man on the left has his arm resting on the shoulder of the man on the right. The man on the right has a tattoo on his left hand that reads "JAKE." The image is a meme with text at the top and bottom. The top text reads, "When the Bard and the Rogue multiclass into Cleric and Paladin." The bottom text reads, "We're on a mission from God."

It is really important for everyone to increase their messaging security these days.

That's why I wrote "Why You Should (Still) Use #Signal As Much As Possible" -- see changelog.complete.org/archive… .

#SignalGate wasn't because of a problem with Signal. It was because people were using it for things they weren't supposed to be using it for, and made sloppy mistakes in the process.

My article is designed to be something you can hand to a non-technical friend and explain why Signal is useful.

One year ago I published my third and best photo book to date. Vancouver Sun gave it a great review and I have sold copies worlwide. If you love nature and wildlife and are curious about Vancouver Island, this book has photos of bears, whales, otters, birds, etc. and landscapes.
You can only order it from me (not avail. on Amazon or other big corporations) so you're not enriching a billionaire but supporting a small business owned by a woman.

This was a three second exposure (with about 10 stops of neutral density). The sun was behind the clouds and just above the center of the frame; the lens required careful flagging to avoid glare.

The rendering of water, especially in the sea, differs greatly with exposure. 30 seconds looks quite different from 3 seconds, which is just as different from 1/30 sec, which is different from 1/1000 sec. About 1/30 sec renders roughly the way our vision does; anything else requires a camera to see.

Money is pouring into Wisconsin’s Supreme Court election so fast that political observers now believe it is likely to reach $100 million by Tuesday, election day.

Already, it has become the costliest judicial race in U.S. history.

The image depicts a fantasy character, a female wizard, standing in a dynamic pose. She is wearing a long, flowing purple robe with blue accents and a pointed witch's hat. Her long, silver hair cascades down her back. In her right hand, she holds a glowing yellow orb, emitting magical energy, while her left hand grips a sword. She wears knee-high boots with intricate designs and a gauntlet on her left arm. The background is abstract, with earthy tones and hints of blue, suggesting a mystical environment. The character's expression is focused and determined, with her eyes looking forward. The overall color palette includes purples, blues, and earth tones, contributing to the magical atmosphere.

For the past few months, people have been asking me about these two clocks that keep showing up in my videos—one in my rack, another at my desk.

Both are PoE-powered NTP clocks from a local company called Masterclock 🧵

in reply to Jeff Geerling

Might come off as a stupid/obvious question but who are these clocks for in day-to-day use?

I, for example, can function perfectly fine with even a crappy clock that's a minute ahead of/behind everyone else, relying on the default time servers that my OSes set

Ofc, I do see the appeal of having one!

in reply to sounddrill

@sounddrill Not a stupid question at all—unless you are tinkering with time (GPS, distribution, oscillators) for fun, or you have a use case, this is of course massive overkill 😀

NTP is great in the millisecond range. PTP is great if you need something that goes beyond that, for things like media production, radio, etc.—but even in those cases, it depends on what you do!
