Intel's former CEO Pat Gelsinger pours cold water on TSMC's $100B US investment: pcmag.com/news/intels-former-c…

Well that's certainly unexpected! Chicago Electronic Distributors (which is online-only, ships from Florida, USA) just merged with PiShop.us!

I've ordered from both many times in the past, never had problems with either. But sad to see one fewer US hobbyist-focused store.

in reply to Jeff Geerling

As a Chicago resident this clears up the naming. Having ordered from then I was expecting there to be a local pickup option and was a little confused at first. :blobcateyesR:

When ordering batteries etc it would be nice to have a quick local option.

in reply to Jeff Geerling

I’m disappointed because CED took apple pay and pishop.us doesn’t.

We’ve had growing crowds every week at the MSP #TeslaTakedown in Golden Valley, MN: 100-some, then 200-some, then ~350–380…. This weekend is supposed to be a really big one worldwide — every dealership, big crowds, really get some attention — but tomorrow’s weather forecast in MN looks kind of dismal.

I worry…but then I know we’re not so easily deterred. Let’s show them how it gets done here in Minnesota.

There are 4 Minnesota locations to protest, and many more worldwide. Find them here, and please show up if you can! teslatakedown.com

in reply to Paul Cantrell

Right now, I think the best thing we can all do is •show up•: early, often, loudly, relentlessly. There is no path to ending this fascist coup — none — that does not flow directly through people just getting out there again and again and again.

This is a chance to show up. Take it if you can. Get in the habit. Stretch those muscles.

in reply to Paul Cantrell

Fascism’s march can feel inevitable. That’s part of the psychological warfare they’re waging.

It’s easy to underestimate the extent to which fascism •requires permission•. And it’s easy to understimate the extent to which staying home and staying silently anxious •constitutes permission•.

Don’t give your permission. Get out there, be loud, show up — whenever you can.

One of the scariest aspects of the current atmosphere is polls showing almost half the country (still) approves of Trump & the image of our neighbors going about their daily lives, grumbling about inflation, but continuing to think as they're told & blame innocent immigrants or trans people instead of the oligarchs. The more people see signs of dissent everywhere they go, the more that changes and the more people conditioned to go with the flow realize they've misjudged the current.
in reply to Paul Cantrell

No - the very first thing is

YOU DON’T PARTICIPATE:

Someone has to push the button -

Someone has to enforce the rule -

DON’T!

Sabotage. Show up late for work. Do just 5% less. There are a million ways to stand in the way of terror.

in reply to Paul Cantrell

maintaining fascism seems grossly inefficient, not the least because the majority of those involved are self-involved, backbiting, facile, petty tyrants all manoeuvring against each other. i feel like if you can get in the way early enough, often enough, things might just implode in a sea of recrimination and blame.

I wrote about how the user experience of encrypted messaging tools is sometimes just as important as the underlying tech. PGP, Jabber etc were not accessible. Signal makes it seamless. But the UI still has issues that can lead to mistakes 404media.co/behind-the-blog-fo…
in reply to Joseph Cox

Years ago now Signal founder Moxie Marlinspike once said (paraphrased) that he used to be happy getting PGP-encrypted mail, because it meant getting email from somebody who cares about email security, but now it just saddens him because it means he's getting email from someone willing to tolerate the entire PGP experience.

I'll copy it here for you friends

in reply to Dr. Cat Hicks

The exercise of Tech Knowledge and Tech Naivete go hand in hand in a way that I believe is somewhat intentionally paradoxical. If Tech Expertise is both all knowing and forever ignorant, it can play either side maintaining its structural power
in reply to Dr. Cat Hicks

It's also helpful to realize the execution of competence is NOT WHAT MATTERS with regard to a lot of tech power; every marginalized person in tech already knew this. It is the performance of speed, performance of genius, performance of renegade. These performances are rather impervious to reality

Can you draw a bicycle from memory? I suspect most people who ride one regularly and have an idea how the parts work together can make a good stab at it but these 3D renders of people’s sketches are wonkily fabulous.

The image features two individuals on a pink carpet, likely at a public event. In the foreground, a man in a dark suit with a white shirt and a patterned tie stands confidently with his hands in his pockets. Behind him, another man with long hair and a beard, dressed in a black shirt and jeans, appears to be in motion, possibly running or walking quickly. The background is bustling with people and a large screen displaying images, suggesting a lively atmosphere. Text overlays on the image read: "Bard charming the tavern keeper to get a free night for the Party" and "Barbarian starting a food fight," adding a humorous context to the scene.
