THE ULTIMATE ENEMY (1979)
Acrylic and Gouache on Illustration Board - 28" x 18"

Sometimes the simplest statements have the strongest force. The image is ostensibly a representation of the struggle to preserve life against the onslaught of the Berserker war machines described by Fred Saberhagen. 1/3

to be fair I don't wanna be on the hook for nuclear war insurance payouts either. sounds expensive

I'm going to go out on a limb here, but I'm guessing if a nuclear weapon is discharged, accidentally or not, one has a lot more pressing concerns

Ben Wikler calling for Elon Musk to be arrested the minute he sets foot in Wisconsin. This is how it's done

“Elon Musk should be brought to justice for his illegal attempt to buy votes for Brad Schimel, and Brad Schimel should immediately condemn Musk’s crimes and disavow his continued involvement in his campaign. If Schimel does not immediately call on Musk to end this criminal activity, we can only assume he is complicit,” Wikler said.

Imagine a country in which more than 13.000 scientists come together - to warn an incoming new government of a grave and pertinent danger.

Imagine all they ask is to take it seriously, communicate about it honestly, and base policies on evidence.

And then it gets completely ignored.
By the media, politicians, public discourse.

That's where we're at.

It's Friday! Woohoo!

Hope everyone is OK. I've been offline & and hiding from news the last few days, but didn't want to miss a Friday Dance (not far from 100 weeks in a row now 😆), so here's another in collaboration with the skeletons from 1929.

Back to some semblance of normality next week, but in the meantime have a good weekend, if you possibly can :blobcatheart:

Measurement unit differences between the U.S.A. and most of the world.

(creator: unknown)

in reply to Information Is Beautiful

i love this because sure the first one makes sense but the other 2 are just the most like "trying to make up reasons to epically own American measurements" like especially with the triangle one that is literally so insane you could just switch those 2 around

look america bad and the distance and volume measurements are insane and difficult to memorize, but if you think ddmmyyyy is any less arbitrary than mmddyyyy you're insane, and frankly celcius/Fahrenheit doesn't matter because they're both absolutely fine, i prefer Fahrenheit for cooking and day-day and celcius/kelvin for science

- carrie

in reply to Aprettyture!

mmddyy and ddmmyy are both equally confusing imo
mmddyy is nice because it's the way dates are read aloud, but the ambiguity is a pain
ddmmyy is. fine
yymmdd makes the most sense imo
and then celcius is just as arbitrary like water freezes differently at different altitudes and etc etc but yeah i prefer fahrenheit for like. weather and air temperature, and celcius for actual measurements. but i use celcius for weather anyway bc reasons

The image features a character from the game "League of Legends," specifically from the "Arcane" series. The character is depicted from both the front and back, showcasing a detailed steampunk-inspired outfit. The front view reveals a blue vest with gold trim and intricate designs, layered over a white shirt with a black bow tie. The vest has a decorative blue sash with gold accents and a badge on the left side. The character wears light-colored pants with gold detailing at the cuffs and brown knee-high boots with gold accents. The back view shows a brown leather shoulder pad and a brown leather glove on the left arm. The character's hair is dark and curly, and the overall color scheme includes blue, brown, gold, and white. The image is credited to Riot Games, with the text "ARCANE" and "LEAGUE OF LEGENDS" visible at the bottom.

The United States of America, is no longer the United States of America.

Oh, the title of our country has not changed, but make no mistake, this is a fascist regime. A lot of bad things are happening, rapidly, and many of my fellow Americans are still asleep. We do not even have a free press anymore, with Donald Trump's regime removing press passes, and now even investigating any news outlet that opposes him and his government.

Things are going to get a lot worse, before they could ever get better, I fear.
