“Proper socializing skills” is an interesting phrase. What if the “proper” way is the way that works for you? We are all wired differently, with our own operating systems, so why should the same approaches work for us all? Like you, I grew up around a lot of adults that were my parents’ friends, as well as the kids at school, but I felt that neither were my “tribe”. I developed a hybrid way of socializing based on observations of not only how they interacted with me, but also each other. I eventually grew to the point where I was comfortable with the fact that I WAS different. Not better or worse, just different. I enjoy time interacting with people, but I enjoy my time alone just as much.

We’re all working to that magical place where just being is enough. I’m enjoying my journey there. 🥰

As always, thanks for your post. You are a wonderful catalyst for thoughtful discussion.

I used to wonder why so many houses we looked at had those white streaks around the chimney.

I wonder no more.

By the way, storks poop funny.

To avoid soiling their own nest, they sort of stick their rear ends out a bit, but that doesn't go far enough, so they also add a well timed movement that catapults the poop away from the nest.

Catapoop.

great advice. Will be sharing this — and keeping it in mind for myself. Always have tried to be cautious but the environment seems more… hostile today.

Too bad they didn't even mention Linux 🤦‍♂️. Interesting nevertheless.

“About 500 severely normal Albertans, many as pissed as summer hornets, filled the hall to the brim.” Andrew Nikiforuk on a boisterous “coal town hall” with Premier Danielle Smith.

in reply to The Tyee

"Members of the majority, much to the dismay of Smith and company, all had one basic question: Why is her government supporting Australian coal magnates and ignoring Albertans concerned about their water security in a drying land overcast with smoke from persistent wildfires?

"The pathetic and disingenuous answer was this:

The government supports a wonderful thing called “responsible development” in the Rockies because what sensible person would support “irresponsible development”?"

With admittedly no knowledge of who the men are, I’m rooting for the escapees.

4 men escaped from #DelaneyHall, a privately run #immigration #detention center in #Newark, during a disturbance Thurs after days of #unrest over conditions, acc/to #NewJersey law enforcement, a federal spox & other detainees’ attys.

“Additional law enforcement partners have been brought in to find these escapees,” Tricia McLaughlin, #DHS spox, said Fri in a text.

Mustafa Cetin, a lawyer who has been representing a Turkish man working toward citizenship, said he got an email from the facility at 7:37 a.m. on Friday notifying him that “all movement,” including meetings with lawyers, had been canceled “until further notice.”

Mr. Cetin’s client had been detained about two weeks ago after a routine court appearance in Newark.

#DelaneyHall is run by one of the country’s largest private prison companies, the #GEOGroup, which has a contract w/the #Trump admin to hold as many as 1k #immigrants at a time. A spox for the GEO Group referred questions to #Ice.

The controversy at Delaney Hall comes as Trump has escalated his #immigration crackdown in recent weeks, especially in nearby #NYC. A number of immigrants who have been arrested in immigration #courts & ICE offices in the city have been transferred to Delaney Hall….

in reply to Nonilex

#ICE entered into a $1B contract w/the #GEOGroup to operate the facility, which began housing detainees last month. Democratic ofcls in #NewJersey have opposed its opening, leading to a lawsuit, #protests & a clash outside the facility that led to the arrest of #Newark’s #mayor & assault charges against US #House Rep #LaMonicaMcIver, a NJ #Democrat. McIver, who has maintained her innocence, is scheduled to be arraigned on Mon & has said she will enter a not-guilty plea.

private prison companies have a nasty habit (I've posted about them before) of cramming as many inmates as humanly possible into their facilities, regardless of the max capacity, and the government, (ie their only client) does nothing to discourage this*, in fact the whole system is skewed to maximize profits. Recreational and exercise facilities are preempted for housing. There's no guarantee that possessions are safe because you are literally living in a gym with another hundred people. It's not rehabilitation, it's dehumanizing abuse.

* A big discouragement would be to only pay for the number of people under the capacity... And penalize for exceeding.

Liquid Glass feels like that earliest reveal of Aqua — flashy, and completely over the top and needing twelve months of refinement and public feedback to get the balance quite right. The problem is, Apple's yearly schedule doesn't allow for that kind of iteration before release; we have about a week or two to get our feedback in, but this plane's going to land in September regardless

The disconnect is strange: Apple keeps talking about putting the focus on content rather than chrome; but the new UI elements are literally the most prominent thing in the new design. Raised sidebar, raised toolbar buttons—aesthetically these are nice, but they’re so attention-grabbing?!

On the same day a military parade unfolds in D.C. to mark the Army’s 250th anniversary on Saturday,
an organized day of protests against the policies of President Donald Trump’s administration is planned for more than 2,000 cities nationwide.

While thunderstorms could disrupt the celebrations in D.C.,
weather will vary at locations around the country where rallies are planned.

Mostly dry and hot weather will dominate the western United States,

while it should be more damp and unsettled near the East Coast because of a front sprawled over the Mid-Atlantic.

To the north of the front, it will be damp and cool.

South of the front, warm and humid air could fuel heavy afternoon and evening thunderstorms.
