The world according to Jay Leno: Never mind about democracy, don't let a little thing like people's rights stand in the way of banal comedy. yahoo.com/entertainment/articl…
in reply to Cara Martin

“‘Why shoot for half an audience? Why not try to get the whole? I like to bring people into the big picture. I don’t understand why you would alienate one particular group,’ he said.”

How do you do balanced political comedy when only one side is the source for a mountain of good material?

It’s like giving climate deniers equal time as a balance against actual climate science.

in reply to Dave Sanderson 🇨🇦🍁

@Sanderde Exactly. There's no credible both-sidesing certain issues. In my opinion the Pablo Picasso quote, "Painting is not made to decorate rooms. It is an instrument of war against brutality and darkness," goes for comedy too.

My wife left a note on the fridge: this is not working, Im going to my mum's house. I opened the fridge door, the light was on, the juice was cold. What the hell did she mean?

Anyone an old partially ripped gazebo with probably a complete frame? If not I'm going to toss it because I don't have the space for this kinda stuff

I showed you my spuds yesterday, so today I might as well show you my tomatoes: Behold my tender plums.

I know spirulina powder is very good for you, but aside from an off-putting smell, I have a hard time getting over how it turns a beautiful lavender blueberry smoothie or gorgeous pink raspberry smoothie into something looking like it was scooped up from the sewers of a particularly brown quake level.

I won't kinkshame anyone, but I am a little resentful that Mark Carney's goal in life is to have Danielle Smith fuck us into oblivion or Donald Trump fuck us into oblivion. Bill C2 is basically the pimp stick he's going to use to beat his whores, aka us, into selling our virtue and handing all the money over.

A little good news:
“The Navy⚡️has canceled its decision to shut off critical weather satellites used by NOAA to monitor tropical cyclones. DoD has just confirmed that NOAA will be able to continue using these satellites for the remainder of their operational life.

See NOAA's official statement on the matter. Result is that the SSMIS microwave scans critical for monitoring tropical cyclones will remain online. Partial but big, big relief."

For today, This is third statement in the past three month with a different date for termination of SSMIS data. Obviously, good news today, but DoD and NOAA have demonstrated they are untrustworthy in this matter and there’s no reason think this is final word, and it could be change yet again tomorrow.

Pissed off at myself for how many movies I marked as watched on Letterboxd but didn't rate or review, including every Bond movie when I did the marathon
in reply to Kaiju Expert

Sorry to all my Letterboxd friends' activity feed, it's just gonna be "Thomas Rated XYZ"
in reply to Touk

I love a shocking number of bad comedies and horror movies

🗣️ MUST A MOVIE BE GOOD TO BE GREAT ?
–ancient carith proverb
in reply to Touk

This is why I don't like to give numerical ratings for things, just whether I liked it or not.
in reply to Kaiju Expert

@touk I don't need letterboxed to know that Thomas. And we love you for it.
@Touk
in reply to Cheerios de Bergerac

@sexybenfranklin @touk Someone called me out the other day for having Blade at the top of my superhero rankings despite it having a lower star rating than several movies I'd ranked below it, lol
in reply to Kaiju Expert

@touk This is why numerical values are not useful to me. Just because I think a movie is better doesn't mean I like it more.
@Touk
in reply to Kaiju Expert

Some I feel like I don't remember enough to rate and others are like, episodes of Black Mirror that I logged that I might remove
in reply to Kaiju Expert

Okay, I went ahead and removed them. They're clearly episodes of a show not movies, despite the quality. Puts me at only 200 unrated.
in reply to Kaiju Expert

I can't actually finish doing this without a bunch of rewatches. Like how can I be expected to remember if I liked White Noise (2005)? I definitely saw it, but it clearly made zero impression on me.

K-PAX (2001)? What the fuck was that movie even about? An alien or something I think.

Shouldn't have been mufos with one of the few people on here who could even make that joke.

Now would be a real good time for retired law professors to launch a consistant series of broadsides against the current legal aberration….

Hopefully, Bondi’s retired Alma mater would weigh in with a few home truths.

Maybe she can comment about how the previous administration weaponized the government against it's perceived enemies. Wait. I may have written that down wrong. Which administration was it, again?

What Boasberg Said That Sparked the Complaint

The DOJ complaint cites comments Boasberg made at the Judicial Conference in March, where he expressed concern that the Trump administration would "disregard rulings of federal courts" and trigger "a constitutional crisis."

A) co-opt the judges you can to provide cover for your power grabs
B) delegitimize and purge the ones you can’t control

Love when vendors of a code-quality tool have zero clue about what code quality issues people actually care about.

I really don’t need a commercial tool that “enforces style standards”. I can use Semgrep free (or Silver Searcher or whatever) to alert folks who use a banned function. There are a million free tools that will shout if I try to commit an API key.

Your feature list is sad and you should be ashamed
