in reply to Paul Knightly • • •If this were to play out in the U.S., and taking a step further with restrictions placed on VPN use, it would be a cataclysmic shift in how the internet is used with a split between those who don't care and carry on, and those who draw a firm line in the sand and refuse to share sensitive identity verifying information (including biometric data) with unregulated companies.
For me personally, I would stop using the internet almost entirely or completely, depending on what loopholes exist.

in reply to Paul Knightly • • •On a parallel note, it's not entirely shocking to see ChatGPT passing CAPTCHAs and other Turing-type tests, which is accelerating the Internet's descent into a bot-filled wasteland.
I'm not sure what the human occupied Internet will look like in 5, 10, or 20 years time, but I really hope the silver lining from all of this is the rebirth of third spaces and offline means of acquiring and sharing info.
It's okay to admit that some (many?) aspects of the Internet have not yielded great outcomes.
