I was under the impression that the reason people don't use soap is so they don't have to keep re-seasoning it, but I'm seeing evidence to the contrary.
old school "farm soap" was made with lye (sodium hydroxide) which will react with and dissolve the seasoning layer and force you to re-season, but stuff like dawn and palmolive isn't lye based and won't effect a proper seasoning layer.
That seems to be the consensus. My only question, I suppose, would be if something happened that made it so we couldn't keep using modern soap formulas if there's an alternative to lye based soaps one could use instead

Sometimes kids aren’t too bright. At my school some kids broke into the animation class and stole two 8 mm cameras (this was long ago). The cameras were recovered and when the teacher had the film developed the kids had all filmed each other.
I forget which of you excellent people taught me the phrase "I can't repair the roof because I'm using all my energy mopping up the floor" recently, but it has lived rent-free in my head ever since. Incredible summary of chronic illness life.
