If you have an #REI dividend, but are increasingly reluctant to buy from REI, here's something annoying that they do that you can use to your benefit: if you use your dividend to place an online order and then cancel it (or, in my case, REI cancels the order because whoops they didn't actually have the thing you ordered), your dividend will be refunded to you.
Ha ha, no, not like an actual modern refund where your dividend gets put back in your account or anything useful like that. They send you a check, eventually, and in three weeks (literally how long they say the process takes) you can deposit your refund check and use your former REI dividend for whatever you want, wherever you want.

@jgilbert I despise how global libraries are managed in OpenSCAD. I just manually clone libraries into each project folder. This is why I have 900 different copies of BOSL2 on my machine.
You can probably 'skip' this annoyance by giving the app its access through system preferences. Full disk access for example, since you trust the app (right?)

SSA (under DOGE control) claims that 40% of SS deposit fraud is conducted via changes made by phone. Perhaps that figure is accurate. But there are many reasons to doubt any figures that relate to anything DOGE does. Reports indicate that their claims of savings across the federal government are vastly less than they are claiming, and Trump/Musk continue to claim that accounts associated with long dead persons are still receiving SS payments -- a claim that has been totally discredited.
But the bottom line is even simpler. People who aren't using computers to access their SSA accounts are going to be the very same people who will be most at risk of not receiving payments after these DOGE changes, since their only alternative to update their information after changes or problems with their checking accounts or other deposit accounts would be physically going in to SSA offices.
Many SSA recipients are infirm and with limited (if any) mobility -- traveling to SSA offices would be impossible for them. Meanwhile, DOGE is CLOSING nearly 50 SSA offices, making reaching SSA offices physically even more difficult.
I haven't seen specific discussion regarding any changes related to SS recipients who choose to receive their payments by physical checks, but in any case this would seem to be an impractical and not timely fallback for direct deposit users affected by these DOGE changes, given the likely delays and other DOGE impacts on SSA, even assuming switching to physical checks could be done by phone.
This is a DISASTER in the making. Many SS recipients depend on these payments every month to even minimally survive. Trump/Musk/DOGE is putting these persons lives at risk.

Today I heard an anecdote about the Monty Hall problem. Apparently Monty Hall himself was once asked his thoughts about the formal version of the problem, and his response was that it was in no way faithful to the game show problem from which it takes its name.
Where does the formal version fall short? Monty himself actively tried to mislead the contestant. He knew them, and tried to persuade them. This was a key part of the game. He said the formal model kills all the suspense. It'd be too boring to watch.
In other words, Monty Hall operated in a large world and it's in that context the Monty Hall problem is interesting, whereas the formal "Monty Hall problem" chops it down to a small world that is not faithful to the real world version of the problem, and on top of it all is boring.
I imagine myself going on Let's Make a Deal and Monty Hall leading me over to his dreaded game. Even though the new car is the prize most people want, he's talked to me enough to know I'd be happier with the goat. Now what do I do?!

sadly that kind of phoenix company bullshit is a common feature of, at least, UK contract law, and it's usually done to shirk debts - limited liability companies don't pay their bills, go into liquidation, then a new company arises that somehow has all the same people in it, but none of them can be pursued for the bills. a little overlap, and the old company can "sell" all its assets to the new company for a token sum before going into liquidation.
but of course, those assets are usually physical. not licences to intellectual property specifically written to be easy to terminate! oops... someone wasn't paying attention there
