There was no way, Kamala Harris was going to win, anymore than Hillary Clinton was going to win. And it has nothing to do with them being a woman. It just has to be the correct individual, which neither of those two were.
@Linux Agreed. I think the strength Walz has is that he can speak to anyone and come across as a normal person. He is good at expressing his drive and his passion. Harris and Clinton practically grew up in politics and neither ever developed that skill.
Many Americans, want a fellow American, and not a politician. More to the point, they want someone who is not part of the status quo - an outsider.
This has been true for years now. It is part of the reason why, Donald Trump, even though he, personally is bad for this country, was still viewed more favorably.

The starkly bare hallway and contrasting tones between the walls and the doors and floor make this as much a study in abstract shapes as it is about urban living.
Small NYC brownstones such as the one shown here were generally either built from the start as multi-family tenements, or were built as single-family homes and later subdivided into apartments. In the former case, the layout into individual units was part of the original design and generally fairly sane. In the latter case, landlords often tried to squeeze every square inch of rentable space out of the existing layout, at the expense of things like hallways.
The first place I lived in NYC was originally designed to be 6 floors x 2 relatively spacious apts. when I lived there, it had been divided into 4 600 sq/ft apts per floor.

On a lighter #electronics note, this is the bestest solder sucker that I have ever used and I love it dearly. About the only thing I'd change I'd make would be to make the body longer (not necessarily the piston volume) to make it a bit better-fitting for my clumsy hands.
The main upside of this one is that it is all-metal, so the button lock doesn't wear out in like 50 uses, unlike the standard variety of these.

My impact driver has given up the ghost, so I need a new one. Tools seem to be one of the few areas that is dominated by American brands: Black and Decker, DeWalt and Stanley, plus Milwaukee (sort of).

Probably bought one by now, but if not, am extremely happy with my Skil 20V one. Current generation only, brushless, with the best LED ring light ever.
@yngmar I haven't bought anything yet, I'll probably wait for the Easter sales just to see if any bargains pop up. Skil looks interesting but it's a US-based company (albeit Chinese-owned), which I'm trying to avoid. Unfortunately Bosch just has those crappy lights on the battery holder...
@yngmar It's a minefield, and you have to decide what your ethical tolerance is - does the head office actually matter vs the parent company? At least Bosch is Bosch, German company and German owned, so there's not much to go wrong with there.

Today is a shitty day.
