What with the advent of new exec orders potentially creating what seems like a free-for-all with everything on the internet, I’m really hoping there’s a return to good old fashioned print media.

But who am I kidding? I can’t even get my loved ones to leave Meta, let alone put down their phones once in a while and handle physical newsprint.

Regardless, here’s the public comment opportunity on the “A I Action Plan” (aka, Let’s Fill the Oligarch Tech Bros Pockets Even More Plan):

#trump could be trying to tank the market so his friends can swoop in & buy up stocks on the cheap
in reply to zombywoof

@zombywoof
He doesn't have a plan.

This isn't malice, though he is a man entirely motivated by greivance and entitlement.

But the current tariff-induced trade war that we're losing was triggered by stupidity. By alienating our closest trading partners we are throwing the global commerce game to China. Like so many times before, Trump doesn't even understand the game that he is losing.

This ain't 11-dimension chess here.

@petergleick It just occurred to me that American progressives have no damned idea how angry and worried Canadians are about your president’s repeated threats to our sovereignty and economic security. Please stop. This is not a joke to us. And your “cute” imperialist conceit that you should conquer us just to solve your own internal crisis is deeply insulting. Signed, a really truly Canadian senator struggling hard not to use unparliamentary language.
in reply to Senator Paula Simons🇨🇦

Thank you for making our voice heard as Canadians. 🙏

You’re one of the most Canadian authoritative figures on the Fediverse. And it is deeply appreciated.
A lot of us try to let people know how hurtful such ideas are in our own ways. It’s great to see that it’s a shared work.

Thank you once again ❤️🍁❤️

P.S.: what would the appropriate form of address for a Senator for a common person?

Please avoid coming to the US. It’s not safe for foreign travelers anymore, and honestly there are better places to spend your tourist dollars nowadays. Protect yourself.

Is it just me? I want to know the location of your beautiful photos? i.e., the name of the mountain/lake/nationalPark. I wish everyone would include that info in the post or in the AltText.

Look at this schmuck blatantly asking for Trump to pardon him: abcnews.go.com/US/pentagon-lea…

Funny how “fighting the deep state” looks a LOT like sharing classified information on a Discord server in order to gain clout with a bunch of online randos. My, his patriotism just makes my heart go a-flutter.

It’s a fucking background check. It’s SUPPOSED to be invasive.

Dug into Xata Agent, a new LLM-driven system to help monitor and optimize a PostgreSQL database. It's built around "playbooks", which are prompts that look like this. Building software with LLMs is so weird! simonwillison.net/2025/Mar/13/…
in reply to Simon Willison

No step 2? Is the LLM supposed to figure out that step and insert it?
in reply to Simon Willison

It's interesting how the steps get more fuzzy later in the playbook; 1,3,4a are fairly defined things to do, 4b has things like 'stands out' which requires some 'thought' and 5 has the 'Think if it makes sense..'

I wonder how to use an abacus. I was taught how to use it when I was a kid, but i just to little to understand and I clearly forgot about that
in reply to Misa

Wikipedia is your friend. But you might want to learn the mental abacus. I see it many times on YouTube and it can make arithmetic calculation very fast. I wonder why Indonesia still relies on rote memorization.

Video game idea: Factorio, except it's simplified and everything is in one dimension. You program drones that moves left/right and can pick up or down stacks of things (or production machines) like Turtle graphics. This is turn based.

Given a layout, see how many turns it takes to make the rocket.

I would like to buy a good quality, European Union flag. Not one of those cheap Polyester, that quickly fade. I would also like to buy a good quality, Canadian flag too.

in reply to Linux Is Best

We're sorry, but in Canada we do not normally fly flags, so there is not a lot of stock,

And this year, with what is happening, for the 15 February flag day commemorating the 60th year of our flag, **everyone** ordered flags. And back ordered them.

So it may be a while before stocks recover.

I have two. I could send you one.

in reply to Amgine

Thanks, but I managed to order one of these (see URL).

"Anley Rip-Proof Technology Double Sided 3-Ply Canada Flag 3x5 Foot - Vivid Color, Canvas Header and Wrinkle Resistant"

That seems to be the best I could find.

The FLOSS movement has failed to build a true counter power to Big Tech's hegemony.

However, I see this potential for tech autonomy with community tech.

It builds on the nonprofit, community centered aspects of free and open source software, while addressing its shortcomings.

Boosts and opinions on what I've outlined in my blog post very welcomed.
