A reminder of what the Bay looked like before environmental regulation—open dumping of industrial waste, raw sewage, and fuel, and constant oil spills.

Before EPA and laws like the Clean Water Act, America's waters were choked with pollution. Ohio's Cuyahoga River, which became a symbol of environmental degradation in the 60s, was so polluted that it repeatedly caught fire.

Today, it's estimated that the #CleanWaterAct alone prevents 700 *billion* pounds of toxic pollution from entering US waters every single year.

We MUST defend these vital laws and institutions.

I’m sorry that happened, hope you’re doing ok, we all know Franks don’t reflect and they don’t learn. Times are gonna get tough for the Franks of this world, like 1946 Berlin tough.
‘Good Germans’ can get in the bin again.
Like in 1939, the world has to get kinetic to stop a maniac.
I don’t like it either but I don’t make the rules, it be how it is.

@MercG

What I found interesting was the almost instant, entirely fabricated, ‘you are attacking my family!’ outrage.

That the immediate response to someone asking not to be victimized is to take on the entirely fictitious mantle of being victimized himself.

This is, for sure, a very MAGA response. They’ve been groomed to it. Even people who don’t see themselves as Trump supporters.

Ugh. Anxiety dream last night. One of my recurring settings: an imaginary scenario at my former place of work. A bizarre scenario: we were supposed to look out the window and write down all the billboards we could see - but I couldn't find a window which wasn't already occupied. And then I couldn't find a *desk* which wasn't already occupied. And then I got scolded for slacking off.

I hate how these dreams linger in my brain even though the events in them *didn't happen*. My brain doesn't know that.

in reply to Kerr Avonsen (she/her)

I can empathize. My own recurring anxiety dream involves being late, oversleeping, getting stuck in traffic, not being able to find the location, etc... Once I woke up suddenly from a dream that I'd overslept, and thought it was real. I rushed to dress and run out the door, and only then realized I'd gotten up way too early! I hadn't missed the alarm clock - It hadn't rung yet!

I'm watching a reaction video to Everlast's What It's Like and thinking about what a huge effect that song had on me.

My mom (yes, toxic mom) always talked about how she tried not to judge (yes, that mom) and told of various situations where she judged and then found herself in that situation and understood why people did what they did. I guess this lesson didn't stick with her, but it stuck with me, and I related it to this song.

There was important music playing constantly on the radio in the 90s. Some of us were paying attention. There's alotta folks today who need to hear this song and really think about what it means.

If I smoked the amount of pot some of you fuckers smoke seemingly every fifteen minutes or so, they'd have to peel me off the floor like a cartoon character who just got run over by a streamroller. Y'all are wild.
in reply to Trivial Einstein

i feel seen. i have a bad conscience about smoking TWO joints on some days. then i visit a friend and literally every 30 mins they roll a new one 🫨
(and it still doesnt relieve my conscience)
in reply to sero one infinity

@sero_one
I... If I had smoked an entire joint, just one, once, in college, not only would I have never graduated but I would still currently be high. When I smoke pot, I put a bud the size of a pinhead (the head of a pin, not the character from Hellraiser) in a pipe and take maybe two hits and I'm done. I'm not a lightweight. I'm not even a featherweight. I'm whatever weight class is "literally unable to fight way out of paper bag." I take two hits of extremely mid-grade weed and I'm seeing visions for hours.

So please, don't feel guilty, but know that if I partook of even half of your RDA of reefer, I would probably suffer from terminal mellow. You're like a superhero to me. Your tolerance is like being able to swim in lava as far as I'm concerned.

Apparently I've been thinking I've sent replies to people's replies to me, when in fact they've not been sent and have gone to drafts instead. This is all internet issues not fedi or client issues, I'm pretty sure, but if you suddenly got a reply from me just now, that might be why.

I've never done anything like this but hypothetically I would probably try to mould the seeds into a solid projectile that would break up on impact. I imagine a paper mache could be made to an appropriate consistency for this but if you wanted to avoid leaving signs this was deliberate you could possibly use something water soluble that would dissolve in the rain. As far as the launch mechanism goes you would probably want to make this into a cylinder of roughly the diameter of your barrel and load it on top of something that would form a proper air seal in order to get better ranges, alternatively it may be better to form your seed pod into a ball and launch it from a sling which would likely take less time to set up for launch and would be much easier to conceal after the fact. If you can't get the range you want it might be worth including something heavy such as a small rock in the projectile. I was going to make seed suggestions but I've hit the character limit.
in reply to not steve

Please feel free to make seed suggestions in a separate reply if you have them, as what you've said here is pretty much what I think I've landed on as far as technique. Someone else suggested freezing the seeds in an ice projectile which I think solves the problems of encasing, leaving traces, and weight, so I just need to . A slingshot is actually a really good idea and I might have to consider that even though I really was hoping to have an excuse to build some sort of air cannon 😅

So my kid and I jokingly named my new Honda Pilot the “brotato”.

I think this name deserves a personalized plate.

Today can get fucked. Tomorrow too. The next week can get fucked. March can get fucked. 2025 can get fucked. The 20s can get fucked. Hell, I don't even care; the 1920s can get fucked too. Pretty sure the Twenty-First Century can get fucked. The Third Millennium... It's early days yet, but all signs point to it being able to get something, and that something is: fucked. Honestly, I have pretty mixed feelings on the Common Era, the Anyhropocene Geologic Epoch, and pretty much everything which has happened since the Big Bang. I'm sure there were a few fleeting moments right after time came into being when things didn't need to get quite as fucked as they do now, but it was a pipe dream. Time was a mistake.

When I said I knew exactly what I’d play next at the end of my Halo post, this isn’t what I had in mind. I procrastinated a ton and played barely anything at all since then, let alone what I had intended to play. I have a lot of different writing projects at 10-20% completion instead.

All the while, I’d been planning to return to streaming games for a long time already, and when I finally […]
