Chuck Schumer backs spending bill to avert US government shutdown
In a reversal, Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer has said he will vote for the bill, which needs Democrat support to move forward.Anthony Zurcher (BBC News)
There is a double-stranded in America.
If there is a shutdown, while Democrats run the government, people claim they're lacking leadership. If there is a shutdown, when Republicans run the government, people claim Democrats are preventing government from functioning.
This double-standard allow Republicans to get away with anything, while Democrats are blamed for everything, including when trying to help the people.

Movie theater attendance in France grew in 2024 — one of the few countries that saw an increase.
And it’s likely to surpass pre-pandemic levels by next year.
The French public’s relationship to movie theaters is "almost mystical,” a research analyst said.

Tonight was the first group mountain bike ride of the season, and whooooo I can say for sure that all my winter exercising has paid off. I feel fantastic. (Might not be able to use the stairs tomorrow, though.) We got about 6.5 miles in before dark and I even set some PRs, which doesn't always happen on the group rides - it really depends on who's leading and where we stop to breathe.
It was cold, so we didn't stay for post-ride beers. Maybe next week!

(Also for bonus points use "bonding" in your reply) 🤣
I hate the words they choose to use for this stuff, I know it and it's still so damn confusing for no good reason. Sorry your landlord sucks, I'm glad you figured out a solution that works for you. A plug-in GFCI (plug on one side, socket on the other) would be easier but I think it would somehow be less good of a ground? They make you use those "no equipment ground" stickers if you do that with a GFCI wall socket to get around a missing ground

Could I rip the wall open and run some wire? Sure. But it's not my house, and the landlord will make a huge stink about it and refuse to fix it

When I moved in my outlets were all original to the house 2 prong ones that were so degraded they wouldn’t hold a plug. I spent my own time and money replacing them with new 2-prong outlets (and maybe a couple 3-prong which I wrote ungrounded on).
