Today's Low Quality Ad is for this Cowboy Hat Staw Cover. I like to place two little hats across from each other and imagine one says "This straw ain't big enough for the both of us" before they draw tiny pistols on each other.

I can't decide if this is a clever visual pun, or the result of a catastrophic translation failure of "I want to order 12,000 straw hats".

a little far, over in #YXU - still need to get a few things like #GNSS module, battery pack and antenna - but am thinking that getting #meshtastic working is going to be important in the near future...

Some context on this from @jeffjarvis:

One of the purposes of these on-again-off-again waffling tariffs, as well as the chaotic slash-and-burn nonsense of “DOGE,” is to create both damage to businesses •and• the possibility of exemptions, so that the Trump admin can squeeze them.

It’s basically a mafia protection money racket: “Nice business you got there, shame if it got tariffed.”

So yes, I expect direct harm to corporate allies of Trump, and I also expect too-convenient carve-outs. Both. mastodon.social/@jeffjarvis/11…

in reply to Paul Cantrell

but does that actually work? Even if Tesla gets a carve out, its suppliers won’t. I’m sure they use many standard components.
in reply to 🔏 Matthias Wiesmann

@thias It doesn’t work •well•. But all they need is a sort of “your windows will on average be smashed slightly less than your competitors” belief on the part of businesses — not even a fact, just a vibe — for it to work.

Cybersecurity is political. Period, end of story. If you could vote and didn’t bother because it was boring you’re just as responsible for loss of key research, ISAC funding, international collaboration, and federal jobs.

Same if you kept using X.

We warned you.

Reminds of the time years ago when someone at schneier.com wondered why there was less discussion of security issues, and more political.

My response: If you do not pay attention to the political issues, you will not have any computer network security issues to worry about.

So remember how a few days ago I shared this official Starlink document that just casually mentions that they found a piece of a Starlink satellite on a farm in Saskatchewan? starlink.com/public-files/Star…

I had really convinced myself it must be some kind of chatgpt gobbledygook. But... a reliable source confirmed that this really happened.

SpaceLifeForm reshared this.

in reply to Prof. Sam Lawler

SpaceX dropped potentially lethal debris from TWO DIFFERENT SPACECRAFT onto Saskatchewan within 6 months. And as far as I can tell, they just waltzed in and picked up the second piece without anyone official knowing about it. This is a very big problem for a lot of obvious legal reasons.

It mostly terrifies me because there are 7,000 Starlinks, and if each one leaves behind debris after demise, that's... a lot.

How is it is that the word 'Web' does not show up in this article? Facebook still has web access, so they still need to police that, as it is not an app. I have to assume that Meta is also thinking of getting rid of its remaining 'web' products, or at least tying them to having an app, as they do with whatsapp and instagram.

I'm debugging the ROM emulation on the Firestarter. It looks as if the code to monitor ROM enable and ROM selection is working but the host crashes once it starts accessing the ROM.

The first access of the ROM is when BASIC calls KL_INIT_BACK to initialise background ROMs.

The first read is the LD A,(&C000). A few cycles later the ROM's init routine at &C006 will be called.
