Why was it hard for the GOP – which controls Congress – to pass its spending bill?

in reply to The Conversation U.S.

They didn't pass a spending bill, all they did was pass a continuing resolution (maintaining prior years budget, but with carve outs) for the rest of the fiscal year.

Have you ever visited someone and they tell you don't worry about getting a hotel, we have a place for you to sleep, and then you get there, and it's like the weirdest thing to sleep on?

Do you prefer our garage Bean Bed or the Human Sized Dog Bed?

It's really tricky to spread the word about events these days! I don't support corporate social media and you don't get read attention there anyway, mailing lists aren't what they once were, and this event wants to reach people across many patterny disciplines..

Any help spreading the word across all the strange pattern-obsessed communities much appreciated!

My thoughts:
1) this architecture is extremely American; I am surprised bald eagles aren't flying out of it in great streams.
2) the most surprising aspect is the parallel toilets, for your parallel pooping experience.

I will once again be out there picketing a Tesla dealership with my sign tomorrow. The Twin Cities events (Golden Valley and Maplewood) both start at 11am — and so far I’ve always arrived late. I’m going to try to make it before noon this time! But in past weeks, a few folks have stuck around until about 1pm. So if you can't come until later, that’s fine! Join us!

Showing up is the important part.

Find events near you here:

I heard from somebody at the #TeslaTakedown today that people will be bannering on the pedestrian bridge that runs from the Walker to Loring Park over I-94 tomorrow and every Sundary around 1pm. (This is in #Minneapolis.)

Just word of mouth, sorry, I have no further info. If anybody knows more, lmk and I’ll boost!

Speaking as a US citizen, Canada buying the F-35 is one of the most inexplicable things I've ever seen. The reason the US bought F-35s was as a workfare project for Lockheed. But Canada, *you* have no incentive to stimulate the Texas economy by buying a product that doesn't work. I don't care if Justin already paid for some of them. Just drop it and walk away. It will cost you more to maintain the useless things than it will to just buy something else.

We have an excellent company called SAAB here in the Nordics, which produces a jet fighter specially designed for northern latitutes called the JAS-39 Gripen.

Canada should check it out. Here is the brochure, in case you’re in the mood for some online shopping 😉

Tomorrow is the 2nd day of the Electronic Faire at Temple University! During the "sit and tinker faire", I plan to work on my personal website in HTML: Adding 88 x 31 buttons, a robots.txt page, and projects. I might also work on transcribing my dream journal into markdown files. Feel free to join me in that! I'm happy to chat about Iffy Books, the Philadelphia Mycology Club, and using the Air Gradient. You can find me wearing a SEPTA hat, mask, and pin that says "pixel" on it.

I'll also be attending @exquisitecorp's workshop "Programming a BASIC Game with Lee Tusman". Registrations are full but keep an eye out for slots that open last minute. charlesstudy.temple.edu/event/…

I don't no idea what to make of this backrooms youTube channel with narration like "The Most Extreme" ... but... for some reason is works?

And it's kind of hilarious?

youtube.com/watch?v=xEwySAaoPf…

Trying too hard to make backrooms content doesn't work. This has the feeling of walking in on the middle of something that makes no sense and that makes it work IMO

in reply to myrmepropagandist

the hardcore extreme narration is kind of out of place when describing a nice jungle that just has a weird sky and a cabin with a bar that you might explode in.

Having a USB-C charging standard is great. Until you get chargers like this one with USB-C connector and 9V. Using that would be a great way to kill some devices. Apparently, GTMEDIA just replaced the original DC port with USB-C without other changes to the device and the charger

Tesla stock has given up roughly all its gains since the Nov. 5 election,
and has lost nearly half its value from a Dec. 17 closing peak of $479.86.

This week, analysts from Wells Fargo and JPMorgan lowered their price targets to $130 and $120, respectively,
suggesting the stock could lose nearly half its value from Friday's close at $249.98.

Wells Fargo analysts said they "initially dismissed" worries political backlash to CEO Elon Musk's involvement with the Trump administration would hurt the EV maker,
but recent protests and reports of vandalism against Tesla vehicles have challenged that,
as they "raise the stakes for potential buyers."

They highlighted declining sales in the U.S., China, and in Europe.
