Meadowcroft Rockshelter is an archaeological site outside Pittsburgh. It was inhabited for more than 16,000 (maybe 19,000) years and thus is the longest continuously occupatied site in the Americas. backpackandsnorkel.com/USA/Pit…

Still looking at mini excavators. New conclusions:

- Cheap KOOP diesels suck, better engines cost much more
- Swing boom almost a must for foundation restoration
- Track speed on most minis is incredibly slow

Given that last fact, I couldn't drive the excavator to the forest to handle some logs or whatever, it would take hours.

So tractor attached is back in the game. Annoying to reposition, but more mobile. Also cheaper.

The fact crap like this exists, is just one more example of why...

I recently got a recommendation from @Romses to watch "Whiskey on the Rocks", a satirical Swedish mini series about a 1981 diplomatic submarine incident. I pretty much binged it yesterday night and today and had an absolute blast, so I hereby am repeating this strong recommendation to all of you 😉

that one was pretty fun... also, in our current state of the world a little scary :/@Romses@chaos.social

@rantanlan To be honest, I watched it precisely because of our current situation because whatever makes me laugh at something like this can only help right now

Europeans benefit from some of the strongest consumer protections in the world!

Whether that’s when:

🔹 Shopping – Right to safe, high-quality products that can be repaired, replaced, or returned if needed.
🔹 Travelling – Compensation for delays or cancellations.
🔹 Banking – Secure payments and fair contracts.
🔹 Surfing – Protection of personal data and safeguards against scams.

For over 50 years, the EU has been working hard to keep consumers safe – both in stores and online.

What the actual fuck is this? We've already reached the torturing engineers stage?

So last time Trump was on this bullshit, this is one of the things that stopped him: a group of tech companies got together and very quietly explained to the man and his advisors what kind of damage, precisely, it would do to the economy if they couldn't get their employees back out of the airports Trump had stranded them in.

This time? He's got a second term, he thinks he's very right, and I have no idea if anyone will talk him off his bullshit.

in reply to Mark T. Tomczak

@mark I was thinking about the number of people I know who come here for business trips--besides the actual residents here.

I wouldn't send my staff here anymore either. It's clear and present danger now.

But yeah, I don't think there are any guardrails now.

Your inability to grasp science is not a valid argument against it.

I could have really just skipped learning about why "herd immunity thresholds" matter with an example. We could have just skipped this whole thing. We had a whole plan and it was working great.

a pox on them hippie moms (and me too now I guess, wonderful)

Canada here. My thinking is if you fail to vaccinate then you should fail to have access to our free health care. You have no right to put such a burden on our health system due to stupidity.

GM: you received a magical boon - what do you wish for?

Wyrmling, really into role playing his middle aged "parent" character: "the ability to awake well rested after a night's sleep!"

GM: nice, 50xp for staying in character, and not min-maxing. Granted!

Last night the band Stealing Sheep joined us for a special #JoyRide listening party. We played their new album on the soundsystem and everyone decked their bikes out in colourful LEDs (inc. lots of @MCQN_Ltd's My Bike's Got LED kits 🤩)

They performed from the back of the trike and livestreamed it to their socials (sadly they're not on the Fediverse)

Here's a bit from my phone when we were down at the Pier Head

Key sentence in a story that is interesting on many levels.

"But the dollar is a fiat currency, which means that its value does not depend on the backing of any assets the government owns."

Failure to understand this is the foundation of the #DeficitMyth, the convenient excuse for destroying the US government.

What's the deficit myth besides being expedient?

See L. Randall Wray's "Making Money Work for Us" or the very compact "Money for Beginners."

about fact checking funny story. Forbes recorded live a speech from ex VP. She explicitly says a word that had to be striked through on white house transcript. Went viral. So they transcribed what she actually said then crossed out and wrote a new term. The video by forbes said the original speech then approx. 2 months later it changed to the new term. So they edited? most likely . To match what she was supposed to say but WAIT a few months later they changed what she said again..BACK to original recording. Sooo fact checking , funny story. P.S. I have every version recorded.
