🚨 new....kind of new??? .... developer science from me! 🚨
I have significantly updated the preprint manuscript for our AI Skill Threat study: it now includes a richly descriptive (I hope) overview of identity threat, has integrated many fresh references and sources of wisdom about developers since our first rough draft report, and more fully explicates our theory for how and why learning & belonging help mitigate threat experiences for developers
In my quest to advocate for the importance of seeing developers as WHOLE people, with WHOLE psychologies (not just brains in jars), I wrote:
"Feeling that an important identity is threatened is recognized as a highly impactful experience which can shape human behavior, and which takes diverse forms. For instance, in being categorized against one’s will, in feeling one’s identity-based value being undermined, or in experiencing threats to the acceptance or distinctiveness of one’s identity"

I created a crib sheet for the #Helix text editor:
bobulous.org.uk/coding/Helix-c…
As usual I intended the new page to be compact and concise; and as usual it ended up being huge and rambling. Hopefully it'll still be of use to people who aren't fully familiar with the most useful keys and commands. (And just maybe of vague interest to #Neovim users who are thinking about trying Helix.)
Let me know if you spot anything incorrect.

mmmhm... I've been working on a new layout for the 0x33.board that moves all components to the *front* of the board for single-sided assembly and while first I didn't think it would be possible it seems to work out very well actually...

the USB-C connector can't be in the litte corner spot without colliding with the key... what do I do? 😭😭
taking the chance to re-implement the whole CAD file in #build123d instead of cadquery (build123d.readthedocs.io/). It's quite some effort but coming out a lot more readable, which means more editable, which is what I need right now as I tweak it and experiment with things like a possible "fully closed shell" design.
Thanks again @alderwick for the suggestion on how to solve the design dilemma! I haven't cut the USB-hole yet as you can see, but the spot is reserved ;)

Teacher in Idaho told she must remove sign saying "Everyone is welcome here" because it had images of hands with a variety of "skin tones."
School officials said "that it was not the message that was at issue, but rather the hands of different skin tones on the poster."
Sadly, we need to know about things like this so that we can oppose them & keep them from growing & reenforcing each other.

Any other steps? Or a need to repeat those? Thanks!

in reply to Emily Velasco • • •@zackstern @lolcat For cast iron, I've had good luck with the "spray with foaming oven cleaner, then tie up in a garbage back for a couple weeks"-method.
For any remaining rust, I scrub with white vinegar and then go at it with a brass brush, then immediately rinse with water and dry. But I've also never tried to work on a cast iron piece that had spent time in a river, either.
Please post more pictures when you're done. It's looking great so far!

Should I season it like a cast iron skillet, or should I paint it? Both are valid options
Chris Petrilli
in reply to Emily Velasco • • •I would “season”. I think the paint would likely rub off over time and also could potentially get into your delicious tortillas.
Also, Evaporust is some kind of weird miracle thing to me.
