#Trump says the #economy ‘went to hell’ #under Biden. The opposite is true - theguardian.com/business/2025/… "By standard measures such as job and GDP growth and the stock market, the US economy was in excellent shape" but millions of muricans don't know or don't care about the facts...

Funny how weird all the motion looks when all the axis just move at their own pace. This was before I added logic to scale everything to the speed of the slowest joint.

🆕 blog! “Some thoughts on LCP eBook DRM”

There's a new(ish) DRM scheme in town! LCP is Readium's "Licensed Content Protection".

At the risk of sounding like an utter corporate stooge, I think it is a relatively inoffensive and technically interesting DRM scheme. Primarily because, once you've downloaded your DRM-infected book, you don't need to rely on an online server to unlock…

in reply to Terence Eden

On Friday, someone from the Readium Consortium contacted me to express their concerns about me publishing my research into how to extract content from an LCP DRM ePub.

I've given it a lot of thought and come to the following conclusion.

As clever as LCP is, it means Readium is a gatekeeper. They decide which apps are allowed to use their DRM. They charge more money than most open source projects can afford. Any out-of-date hardware products will *never* be able to read legally purchased books.

Woke up to 1" of sleety snow, 0c, with borderline icy rain and thick fog, which would make today's remote run at 1300m a bit silly, since I didn't know the route/terrain.

Jumped into HQ and drove 1000m down and found sunshine and views of the stunning snowy mountains.

Run wasn't as fast as I had hoped because first we found a cows horn that the Irish mutt wanted to play and then run with for over a 1km with. Then we found the cows had set up camp on the trail/farm track so we had to navigate around and hope we didn't set off a stampede.

The Spanish mutt did some dry stone checking for @kristiedegaris ;)

Whew! I knew this was going to be a tricky replanting and it was but went more smoothly than I'd expected. This mini bog started out in 2023 as a random throwing things together with different Sundew seed stalks, moss and some Butterworts in a Tupperware-type container using coconut coir as the growing medium and I actually didn't expect it to survive. It seemed to (mostly) do okay and it was time to move it to a larger container.

Tape can be a good way to remove them. Though try it in a small location since this plant looks like it has little hairs on the leaf surface and tape might damage the leaf. But you don't have a whole field, just the one plant. Try some masking tape.
in reply to myrmepropagandist

@futurebird
Thanks for the suggestion. The functional hairs are mostly on the inside. I moved the worst ones outside, but I’ll keep an eye on the indoor ones with the tape handy.

US Bluesky users should be careful with what they post: all posts are archived. And I guess European social media users planning to visit the US should be aware that their posts can be used against them by the Trump regime too.

Marp — if you want to use Markdown to create presentations, this might be a good place to start

It's entirely open source, though you only get two tools: CLI MD -> HTML and VS Code extension. The CLI is pretty good at taking Markdown and turning in into an HTML slide deck. I much prefer iA Presenter though, which is not open source, but also not horribly expensive.

in reply to Assaf 🌴

I've done a few presentations from this recently. I also use iA Presenter, but that's macOS only so I used Marp on Linux for others. I also did a bit of hacking to make something to try to convert from iAP to Marp, but it's not completely straightforward.

Trump and Musk's decimation of the federal workforce got pushback from two federal judges this week, ordering fired workers to be rehired. Between poll numbers showing Trump's approval rating on the economy plummetting and focus groups of Trump voters with buyer's remorse, it appears the MAGA fever may be breaking. So does he care? No. Democrats have 2 years to start to work on selecting middle of the road people for congress and 2 more for president. America will never be left. They probably would prefer becoming extremists to the right. We need middle of the road people.

I wouldn't break out the celebration party hats yet. There is much to be done to bring both parties back towards the center to make balanced decisions.

What the US doesn’t need is passive aggressive posts telling people to wake up when clearly, it’s you just not paying attention. If you hate the US, just say that. It’s fine. I hate us too. But don’t make it look as if people are sitting idol. It’s intentional disrespect.

Yesterday, Ukraine destroyed the bridge over the Konka river using a French 340 kg AASM Hammer missile.

This bridge is essential for Russia’s logistics in the occupied part of Kherson Oblast, and Russia will now find it more difficult to bring supplies to troops between the Konka river and the larger Dnipro river.

This, to me, highlights what blogs can do. They can share your own personal experience that might help others.

My blog has been running since 1997. How many forums and web sites have disappeared since then? With valuable information lost...

I don't serve up ads or even track the stats of my site, I just write to help myself and hopefully others.

To me that can be enough of a reason...

We can't trust media or corporations or the govt to publish things we want to know.

It's up to us!

"We can't trust media or corporations or the govt to publish things we want to know."

I think I meant to say that We can't trust media or corporations or the govt to make available the knowledge we want and need.

My little web site has outlasted media empires who crumbled and got deleted when the ROI wasn't there, or some corporate monster decided to kill some service.

We the people have to rely on we the people. Build community online, keep writing, keep sharing, never give up.

Archive, make copies, share links, don't put all your posts in one basket. Syndicate, make more backups, keep some offline.

We can win by not allowing our history to be erased.

@odmac Honestly if one person finds a post I wrote useful, that's great... and sometimes that one person is me!

But if someone posts about something and I can point them to a blog post with my own experience, I feel like I am actually helping the world.
