About 30 years ago, health authority officials found out, that some deer meat sold in Germany was actually from kangaroo tails. It was just fraud by misdeclaration, there was no problem using it as food. You can't distinguish by taste, neither.

You might as well throw your Echo and Alexa-powered devices in the trash like you should have done years ago.

Arcade dude messages to say hey Dan how many minutes d'you think this Portal pinball machine will remain functional, and I gotta go find the thread where I clown on the worst pinball machine I've ever seen until the CEO emails my workplace and tries to get them to sack me mstdn.social/@ifixcoinops/1099…
in reply to Dan Fixes Coin-Ops

What's the CEO emailing bit cos that's pretty Barbara Streisand or something, but I couldn't find it in that (humongous) thread. [And now a terrible spelling of humongous is in my phone dictionary because I couldn't spell it right the first time and what the icon for what looks like "look it up" is actually "add"]
in reply to Robin

@eythian yeah dude read the whole thing and sent my client an angry email about it lol

I honestly went SO EASY on that machine in that thread tbh, there were so many other things I could've lol'd about on that

I loved Window Maker, I used it in the late nineties / early 2000's.
I've discovered this project this evening, I can't wait to try it, at first in a VM:

Yeah I saw that and am tempted to give it a whirl as it's also available on FreeBSD. Certainly brings back memories.

The US government is taking an ax to the trunk of the tree that is the rule of law, and this particular judge is not having one millisecond of it.

As has been the case for the past nearly 2 months, the question is now whether the words of a judge still have any power at all.

The latest Chrome update may or may not personally affect you, but the vast majority of them are “security patches that patch these little tiny holes that may or may not be exploited in the real world,” EFF’s @Thorin told @huffingtonpost. huffpost.com/entry/chrome-upda…

Next time you consider another Google Chrome update,

don't.

Not if you dislike

- Black History Month and Pride erased from Google calendars;

- reneging on public ethical commitments when its convenient, and return to working for military contracts;

I am writing Rust.

The code on the left compiles.

The code on the right does not compile. It produces the error on the righter right.

Why? how is it possible that rearranging code like this could make such a substantial difference?

My assumption is in a C-shaped languages expressions are executed from inner to outer. Neither of the types of the self. functions return a reference type.

in reply to mcc

theres gccrs 🤷 rustc uses llvm which lacks support for certain architectures that gcc does support. blog.rust-lang.org/2024/11/07/…

Trump talking about dividing up “assets” between Ukraine and Russia is, in part, a conversation about transferring *human beings* from the rule of one state to another like chattel.

nbcnews.com/news/world/trump-p…

in reply to HeavenlyPossum

I have yet to encounter anyone arguing for peace through concessions to the aggressor, Russia, who grapples with or even admits that those concessions entail the transfer of human beings as “assets” from one state’s rule to another without their consent, as if we’re talking about European princelings deciding the fate of Silesian peasants over glasses of claret and not actual living human beings with their own desires.

From the thread below, this is my core thought for the day:

We need to make everyone in any kind of leadership role, any sort of position of power, small or large, more afraid of •complying• with fascists then they are of •fighting• fascists.
hachyderm.io/@inthehands/11417…

Yes, strategies like this from @jhlibby:
newsie.social/@jhlibby/1141791…

You don’t even have to sue them out of existence. You just have to make the administration believe that they •could• face a devastating lawsuit.

Make them more afraid of complying with fascists than they are of fighting fascists. Make compliance existentially dangerous.

in reply to Paul Cantrell

If that fear of compliance can’t come from moral grounding or an understanding of the consequences of fascism, then let it come from personal consequences.

Did you know you can subscribe to PeerTube channels on ordinary podcasting apps such as AntennaPod, Apple Podcasts etc? Here's how:

1. Go to the PeerTube channel
2. Click "Subscribe"
3. Long-press or right-click "Subscribe via RSS" and select "Copy link"
4. Paste this link into your podcast app's section for following podcasts through URLs (for example on Apple Podcasts this is at Library > ⋯ > Follow show by URL)

There's lots more info at:

I think there are some podcasting updates coming to 7.1 which provide compatibility with the Apple Podcast index. It has a few proprietary tags which used to require a plugin.

This is the #IKEA that #russian #intelligence burned in #Lithuania last year.

And #Europe still has no idea they're at #war.

in reply to Jay

No it's not. That photo is the shopping center in Poland that Russian saboteurs set on fire. It literally has the name (Marywilska 44) on there.

This is the Ikea in Vilnius: ikea.lt/lt/kontaktaivilnius

The fire in the warehouse stacks there was luckily quickly brought under control.

Took a while to get the display working, and I still cant figure out how to accept the text as a multiline block instead of 8 individual fields, but hey it works!
