Just another rainy PDX Monday with 250 people outside of #teslatakedown

"I told my mom 'I'm accidentally organizing a protest!'" Elizabeth didn't see a #teslatakedown planned in her community, so she stepped up to host one. Today, >100 folks came out in Grand Rapids on a Monday evening to participate in the 3rd action she's planned! www.wzzm13.com/video/news/m...

The image depicts a woman seated on an ornate chair, dressed in a vibrant red tunic with long sleeves and a white undergarment. She wears a white head covering and holds a large sword with a cross-guard, resting it on her lap. Her right hand is raised, and her eyes are closed, suggesting a moment of rest or contemplation. She has a checkered pouch with tassels hanging from her waist. The woman's legs are crossed, and she wears brown boots. To her left, a partially visible figure in an orange and red tunic stands, holding a sword. The background features a banner with triangular flags in various colors, adding to the medieval ambiance. The overall scene is rich in detail, with a focus on the woman's attire and the surrounding elements.

Apologies in advance but... I'm going to post A LOT about the Magic University Kickstarter the next few weeks. I'll try to make up for it with more cat and food posts...? bit.ly/MUKSsocial

Jürgen Hubert reshared this.

Good read. Argues that renewable energy is expanding rapidly, especially in China, and less energy is needed for more modern devices such as LED bulbs. Fossil fuels are on the way out.

"The US is taking a big risk by doubling down on fossils and combustion cars. It may find in the 2030s that it has achieved the worst of all worlds: left on the sidelines of the global electro-tech economy, while at the same dependent again on imported oil and gas.

"Will Trump end up being the man who blew America’s energy independence?"

On the late afternoon walk it started to lightly rain while the sun was out and setting in the west. I immediately looked east and was rewarded with a full rainbow that eventually morphed into a double. 🌈

Acrylic on Illustration Board - 28" x 38"

Being suspended in space, floating unencumbered yet in control of one's flight, is as close to pure freedom as I can imagine. 1/4

Very cool!

I remember reading a bunch of Niven books over a short period. This was one of them.

Sorry, I must now go “feed the tree”. 🤣

in reply to Bill Plein🌶

@bplein I bought that in HB when it first came out. Probably now in a box because the bookshelf is too full. In any event, great cover.

The image is a four-panel comic strip featuring two characters. In the first panel, a character in red armor with a hood is holding a device with a skull on it, and a larger armored figure stands behind them. The red-armored character says, "So many millennia has already passed... And yet its machine spirit still... SCREAMS!" In the second panel, the red-armored character repeats, "And yet its machine spirit still... SCREAMS!" The larger armored figure asks, "What does it sound like?" In the third panel, the larger armored figure's helmet is shown with a speech bubble saying, "RAGE." The final panel shows the red-armored character and the larger armored figure standing next to a large bulldozer with a speech bubble saying "RAGE." The background is a simple gradient, and the comic strip includes a Patreon link at the bottom right corner.

ffs... innovation builds in small companies, which try to excel by innovation, not by tweaking the bottom line.

Wow, this is a pretty bootlicker position from the EFF, did you folks just get a whole bunch of openai funding or something?

Is your account compromised? Is there an intruder in the building? Respond "pineapple" and I'll send the authorities.

@mordoc Actually, I love them as well. They alert us and our chickens to the presence of birds of prey. I've chased off more than one hawk/falcon due to their alarm, and the chickens even know to seek shelter when they hear it.

the Serbs had hundreds of thousands gathered in Belgrade this weekend. If Washington looked like this every Saturday, that would be a good start.

@markrsmith We did that in Oregon, which is about the size of Serbia, is it not? This country is HUGE with gigantic information barriers. How would we organize this? How would it end any differently than the huge occupy protests? The huge Black Lives Matter protests? Let our leaders know. All they know how to do is gripe at the courts and drink with their "colleagues," our enemies.

And here is one of the many reasons why I’ve never latched onto the idea of #AutonomousVehicles as being the revolutionary game-changer so many of my #blind friends think it is. There’s just way, way too much out of your control, and even now there are times when manual override is required. Really sorry but I will die on this hill if necessary. mas.to/@JorgeStolfi/1141794508…

Fully agree. There are some things I will never be able to do. Driving a car, flying an aircraft, many things. I'm 100% ok with that. Believe it or not abled people can't do everything, either. Ugh. I also couldn't live with myself if my car killed someone's dog or their grandma. So... I won't be partaking in self driving cars.

I’m sure Peter Hitchens writes vile stuff in the Daily Fail most weeks, but this has belatedly caught my eye from a few days ago.

He’s decided that #Dyslexia and #ADHD don’t exist.

He’s blaming parents and teachers for not teaching kids how to read.

A quick online search reveals he’s been spouting this pet theory since the mid noughties.

Zero evidence. Just spite.

in reply to Juggling With Eggs

While reactionary dinosaurs like Hitchens seem to wonder why life didn’t just stay caught in the aspic of their blinkered 1950’s childhood…Cambridge researchers believe that #dyslexia actually played a key part in human survival, exploration, invention and creativity.

Having worked with many innovative dyslexics I know where my money is. And yes, one of those is my partner, a librarian.

in reply to Juggling With Eggs

For those like Hitchens who still think #Dyslexia has exploded in the 21st century because of lazy, woke, leftwing teachers…try reading this.

Then imagine you are a young child who cannot read..but desperately wants to read and catch up with their classmates:

The image is a meme divided into two panels. The top panel shows a character lying on the ground, wearing a green cloak, with a solemn expression. The text overlay reads, "I would have followed you... my captain... my king..." The background consists of fallen leaves, suggesting an outdoor setting.

The bottom panel features the same character, now with a bloodied face, looking distressed. To the right, there is a game interface displaying an item named "Boromir's Gauntlets," which provides +4 defense. The description humorously notes, "Daddy's gift to his favorite and only son. Offers no toe protection." The character's name, "Boromir," is visible at the bottom of the interface. The background is blurred, focusing attention on the character and the game interface.
