Donald Trump has a secret plan to turn the United States into a dictatorship, and we now see the contours of the fierce political battle ahead.

The US senators are shocked as they realise, Trump tries to copy the dirty tricks of disgraced president Richard Nixon to become all powerful.

It is in Dutch but the trilogy is worth reading. It describes the phases a dictator goes through. Trump meets almost all the characteristics and phases of dictatorship.
It is like Liz Cheney said: 'The US are sleepwalking into dictatorship’.

The layoffs will continue until morale is decimated.

Seems to be the mantra these days.

Cracking up at the wording of this error message I wrote in 2014: "Process failure not expected but seen". Because I have to word it this way. Because it's a test case runner. So a significant portion of the time it invokes processes expecting them to fail
in reply to Blank Greg

@gregly In fact the message is "Failure expected but not seen"!

print("\tFAIL: Process failure " + ("expected" if s.expectfail else "not expected") + " but " + ("seen" if result else "not seen"))

in reply to mcc

Very reminiscent of rspec tests in Ruby/Rails, although it is a lot more verbose (“Expected test to raise <exception>, but nothing was raised” is one common message”)

My friend, Gretchen Yanover, is playing her electric cello tomorrow in #Seattle for the grand opening of Mirabelle by Orphée from 1pm to 3pm. If y'all haven't heard her music yet, you owe it to yourself to listen to her compositions. My favorites are Lighthouse, Turnaround, Heart and Sky, Three Encounters at the Airport (she plays at SeaTac often, too), Risoluto, & Touching the Stream. open.spotify.com/artist/2rFHLb…

Oh! Two new discoveries. Thank you. Now listening to her music. It’s delightful. And can hardly wait to try the new bakery cafe.

The Heinz History Center is Pennsylvania's largest history museum. On six floors, its exhibitions feature more than 40,000 artifacts of the history of Western Pennsylvania. Have you been there? backpackandsnorkel.com/USA/Pit…

Odd souvenir?

I found this in a box at home. Anyone have any clues?

Lens only returns bottle openers & ashtrays. I just tested on a beer bottle & remain thirsty. 😂 Not a bottle opener. It's not an ashtray.

The top bits are perhaps stylised waves on a beach? Cast iron, possibly sandcast, no marks on the reverse. It will stand on the legs at the bottom, but wobbles precariously - bump the table & it falls flat. Roughly palm sized.

TIA

It’s a stylised Continental Australia: from top L, NW Cape, peninsular NT, then Cape York. So, a souvenir of some gathering here 30 years ago.

Was Cake on the Austin City Limits TV show in 2004? I wonder whether this recording is from the taping of the Austin City Limits TV show or the Austin City Limits Festival. (I was at the latter.)

in reply to Brad

Probably not, based on this Wikipedia list en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_…

So yes, that recording might be the show you attended!

I have a similar experience with finding an audio recording of a Stevie Ray Vaughan and Doubt Trouble show that I attended in college. I’m one of the hooligans cheering between songs 😀

@mcc To The Stars is a long-running fan sequel to Puella Magi Madoka Magica, set in the 25th century, long after Homura unionizes the world's magical girls and rationalizes grief cube production

it features extraterrestrial combat, where severe injuries are common and are repaired using either magic or technology depending on if the injured party is a magical girl or not

there's a lot more to that but I can't go into too much detail without spoiling stuff; check it out if you're interested: archiveofourown.org/works/7770…

New build thread.

I am upgrading my Prusa MK3 to MK4S. I ordered the kit on Black Friday, and I've been getting other projects off my plate so I can start on it.

Tagging @jasoncoon and @younata because you both have experience in this.

Today I decided to print a nameplate for my not-really-new printer.

I have impostor syndrome when it comes to graphic design -- I have no confidence in my work. Anyway, this is what I made. I might change it in large or small ways later. The font is Typo Angular Rounded Bold.

(Printed on the other printer that has the MMU, of course.)

This is the most helpfully packaged box of screws I've ever seen, by a large margin. I just wanted to take a moment to appreciate whomever was responsible for such a triumph of utility and empathy.

my public library doesn't have a ton in the way of physical audiobooks (they've leaned more into Libby etc), but they *do* have @pluralistic's "Little Brother" on CD! this'll be a fun way to spend a couple of shifts at work this week 😀

(and reminds me that I need to hunt down another copy with the original cover art, since I lost mine. the new covers are sick, but this one has my heart.)

My local library has @pluralistic's Picks and Shovels featured in its new releases section!

I've been exercising in the morning fairly regularly, so I don't know why it's a daily surprise to me that morning exercise puts me in a good mood for hours.

Anyway, after a lovely walk on which I saw (and heard) a bunch of red-winged blackbirds, we went grocery shopping.
