@f4grx @zl2tod @edmcbane that's authored 2 weeks ago though, and considering the blog post, i'd assume it's something present in the current latest release - if not many previous ones as well

@ptrc

This just showed up on Debian Security:

Package: atop
CVE ID: CVE-2025-31160
It was discovered that Atop, a monitor tool for system resources and process activity, always tried to connect to the port of atopgpud (an additional daemon gathering GPU statistics not shipped in Debian) while performing insufficient sanitising of the data read from this port.

With this update, additional validation is added and by default atop no ...

Finally got round to adding the midi info for using the TR-8 with the MIDI Comb device. Enjoying using the pitch distribution controls to change the sounds in the pattern. Totally random scattering of notes on the sequencer apart from the bassrrum.

@coldclimate Hmmm. This is a good question (and I'm flattered). I will maybe be doing this through a bookshop. I will confirm with the publisher and get back to you.

I try to get signed first editions of books that feel important
in reply to coldclimate

@coldclimate I'm so glad you think my book seems important 🙂 I have to say it's incredible that it seems to be resonating.

I am sure I can figure something out. Will email the publishers this week.

Years ago, I was inspired to bring to life a great piece of art by my friend, Doug. I used a crusader helmet template by Ben Eadie as a basis for the helmet and constructed it out of floor mat foam and craft foam. The wearer can see through the black fabric covering the eyes and mouth.

That looks cool. Tried fluorescent green paint for it? Or uv paint? That might be a really cool effect for it. 😁👍🏻

I feel your pain. Trying to envisage anything 3d always fills me with inadequacy!
in reply to Michael Horne

@recantha yeah, I recently came to realise I have something called "Aphantasia" which is where you can't physically see things in your mind. It means my 3d design process requires a lot of test prints just to figure out how one thing works with another in real space. How I ever ended up working as a designer is beyond me!

This is sick as hell and deserves more attention:

I don't think I've ever seen that done before, which means everyone making futuristic credit sequences in the 1970s missed a *major* trick! Also, what a great tool for understanding signal processing.

in reply to Matthew Dockrey

maybe I'm wrong but without the compute and libraries and standards and standard hardware interfaces we have today, you'd need to build an analogue tool first to record the writing of that waveform and then replay it very fast...
in reply to mmby

@mmby True. I could be wrong, but I think that should be possible with a Fourier transform and some oscillators, but maybe not easily to that crispness. The earliest video games were all done by drawing onto an oscilloscope just like this, though, so the idea wouldn't have been utterly foreign to them.

Well, at the very least #Trump is doing wonders for the German defense industry, as lots of European countries (a) seek to increase their military spending and (b) try their best to get away from fickle American supply lines... 😔

in reply to Jürgen Hubert

Rheinmetall has a lot looking good for (its upcoming profits).

First off, the Ukraine war has massively boosted demand for their wares.

Second, Trump has made it more likely they need to boot USA bases and/or not rely on them.

Third, Leopard 2 and upcoming variants like the next generation Leopard 2a RC3.0 really make the Leopard 2 platform just plain more flexible for different country's needs - including better than USA.

Leopard 2 and Skyranger are particularly needed.

in reply to Jürgen Hubert

All the Rheinmetall boss has to worry about now is not being assassinated by Russian agents.
