I took a stab at cleaning up my code for BearExporter, a Python script to export all of your Bear notes to Markdown files you can use with Obsidian, read in the terminal, or whatever.

As the old saying goes "it works for me!" but I know it's not exactly great code, but it is available.

I'm not great at Python but I'll try to improve it as time allows.

I might’ve responded simply but no, this is amazing actually. Enables a completely different use case.
in reply to Francis 🏴‍☠️ Gulotta

@reconbot Yeah, I think I'm often poor at articulating why I do things, so your question was good!

It never hurts to ask "why?" when you create an alternative to something that (seems to) already exist(s).

My parents occasionally find me interesting old books. This one is an optical physics textbook published in 1826. It has a note on the first page from a previous owner. Toronto was incorporated a week or so prior. Darwin was three years or so into his voyage on the Beagle. Weird to hold this.

@AlexanderVI that seemed to be the consensus on Reddit where I first saw this - everyone felt bad for the dog. Apparently police showed-up very quickly and they dispersed.

@AlexanderVI . considering that the Proud Boys showed up for PP's recent London Ontario rally, then yes - I betchya they will be there...

Someone who can't get security clearance should not be allowed to wear military badges or get on a military base. Obviously.

As someone who got a clearance in the last couple of years, it was incredibly easy... should be easy for PP, just have to document your employment (he has had, what like 2 "jobs"?), home addresses (should be easy too), and... foreign investments and on-going regular foreign contacts...

... oh... that will likely be the issue...

@Immish ... masks are "ok" for them only when they want to hide their faces, but not protect their fellow citizens during a pandemic... seems to be normal "par-for-the-course" for these types...

I did a lot of talks on student surveillance last year, including talks aimed at college administrations trying, to convince them that turning the campus into a surveillance state was not a good idea. I have not been invited to do a single talk on student surveillance in 2025 for some reason.

now do K-12 schools. the tracking in those schools is outrageous. our rural high school is full onboard with "smart passes" for leaving the class. they need their chromebook to sign out and in. some parents pushed back so at least there's an opt-out solution with a notebook. i will, however, add that there are a lot of parents who seem to think that the schools should be teaching kids about "how to behave". kids vandalizing the bathroom was, i think, the straw that tipped the desire to track, even though teachers probably know who the troublemakers are.

i think Ohio uses some "classroom dojo" software for primary level. plus study island for homework. these kids will have a digital footprint like none before.

@Jen I have being doing this work with schools for students of all ages for many years, thanks.

Did another test run of the stained glass hemisphere, this time a 45 degree wide wedge from the Tropic of Capricorn down to the pole. I wanted to confirm that the (literal!) islands work, the whole reason I wanted to use water jet for this in the first place. And they do!

I'll probably want to scale up New Zealand and Tasmania a bit, so they don't totally disappear after the copper tape has been applied. But the big next step is to print a jig that can hold everything at the correct angles for soldering.
