French far right leader Marine Le Pen guilty of embezzlement of EU funds, and sentenced to 4 years in prison of (2 will be served).

Not that the situation is exactly the same, but embezzlement of EU funds was part of what started the downfall of the Danish far right as well, ending with Kristian Thulesen Dahl leaving politics altogether.

Congratulations to France. 🇫🇷

I’m sure Le Oen is “very Nov people,” though. America is. 🙃

The image is a four-panel meme. The first panel shows an animated character with long blue hair, smiling widely, with the text "Playing D&D". The second panel continues with the same character, now with a more contemplative expression, and the text "PROCEEDS TO TALK ABOUT CONSISTENT BAD DICE ROLLS". The third panel features the same character with a thoughtful expression, and the text "Man, isn't it funny how dice are like the symbol of the conflict between spiritual and material ideas?" The fourth panel shows a real-life person sitting on the floor in a restroom, surrounded by broken pieces of a clipboard, with the text "4 HOURS LATER". The final text reads "DEEP EXISTENTIAL CRISIS ABOUT THE NATURE OF CONSCIOUSNESS, THE AFTERLIFE, AND WHETHER RANDOMNESS IS JUST A COSMIC ILLUSION OR IS IT OURSELVES". The meme humorously depicts the progression from a simple game to a deep existential crisis.

Trump calls the day he starts taxing US consumers 25 percent on their cars "Liberation Day".

That is 25 percent national wide Trump tariffs, before the state sales taxes are added.

If Bernie Sanders had suggested this, Republicans would have called it communism, but now the idea comes from The God King, so… "Liberation Day" it is.

My company sold $5 million+ in equipment to a company in the US last year. Delivery time is more than a year, so delivery starts months from now.
The agreed delivery term is DAP, which means the customer is responsible for all costs associated with import.
I'm not yet sure whether the tariffs will apply to our equipment but I'm kind of hoping yes.
The boss of that company is a gun toting maga heap of shite.

Australia has a trade deficit with USA, doesn’t stop the tangerine Führer applying tariffs anyway

One of the most overlooked but useful features on Mastodon is "Notes". These let you add private info to profiles which only you can see:

➡️ fedi.tips/what-are-notes-on-ma…

A lot of people use notes for keeping track of why they blocked or muted someone, but there are also lots of other purposes.

Notes can be created on the web interface and some third party apps. Just click on the "Add note" section of a profile and type what you want.

I’d rather be annoyed than exploited. Steve Jobs said it best in 2010:

“Privacy means people know what they’re signing up for, in plain English, and repeatedly. I’m an optimist; I believe people are smart, and some people want to share more data than other people do. Ask them. Ask them every time.

Make them tell you to stop asking them if they get tired of your asking them. Let them know precisely what you’re going to do with their data.”

The US faces a projected shortage of 140,000 physicians by 2036, with rural areas hit hardest. Some states already have 6 years lower life expectancy than others, which the former head of the CDC and her colleague link to doctor shortages: buff.ly/0eaZw3T

CrystalMark Retro benchmark extends support all the way back to Windows 95
Did you want to see how fast your ancient computer was? Because now you can!
arstechnica.com/gadgets/2025/0…
in reply to Ars Technica

Certainly better retro-ability than most Internet speed tests I’ve tried, which can’t handle dial-up connections at all.

Usually they complain that their server is down, seeing no response, since it takes a while for packets to get transmitted at 4 kilobytes per second. If they were smarter, they’d start with some short probes rather than megabytes of data. Simple to do, not as much trouble as writing a benchmark for old OSes, but they can’t do it.

So, just like 2014, and the latter half of the 2010's, and the latter half of the 90s, and the early 80's... the M5 has always been a "maybe this year's will be decent, but probably not" car =P
