Welcome to #TransTuesday!

RECOVERING TRANS CHILDHOODS

The past can be difficult for we who transition as adults, as our childhoods were stolen from us by transphobic society.

But sometimes we find a little piece of what we missed, and it becomes a lifeline.

‼️ Syrskyi: Despite loud statements about readiness for a ceasefire for the May holidays, the occupiers have significantly increased the intensity of hostilities, focusing their main efforts on the Pokrovsk direction.

The lack of prospects in operational and tactical terms does not stop the enemy, he stubbornly tries to break through the defense of our troops in this direction and reach the administrative border of the Dnipropetrovsk region.

it's sociolocially fascinating how most dutch people seem to have a reflex where even two native speakers will switch to english if they percieve any comms difficulty

call quality drops? switch to english

danging participle? switch to english

in reply to Kate Temkin

actually thinking on this, and it might not just be how English-speakers have made a "oh sorry let me try again in english" reflex

it might also be becuase of a cultural preference for simple phrasing that leads to more common ambiguities in shorter phrases

the planet orbits slowly
=> de planeet draait langzaam

the planet revolves slowly
=> de planeet draait langzaam

the planet spins slowly
=> de planeet draait langzaam

in reply to Kate Temkin

this is fascinating because to me, English is a really bad language for oral comprehension, full of homophones on short words. Difficult to imagine Dutch being even worse

Gender affirming hair: I was in my mid 30s when I came out as trans, and my hairline was badly receding, so a year into my transition I had a hair transplant. I’d had long hair since my mid 20s — a way of dealing with what I now know was dysphoria — but to get the best results from the hair transplant I had it all shaved off. Once it was long enough, a hairdresser friend gave me a pixie cut — she’d been looking forward to doing my hair ever since I came out. It was cute, but it didn’t really suit my long face. Today, six years after my hair transplant, I’ve had it cut and had a keratin treatment for the first time (at the queer-friendly Heartbreakers Hair in Exeter), and my hair feels amazing — like silk to the touch. Of course the breezy weather sent it everywhere the moment I stepped out of the salon.
