“No court of the United States may use appropriated funds to enforce a #contempt citation for failure to comply with an injunction or temporary restraining order if no security was given when the injunction or order was issued…, whether issued prior to, on, or subsequent to the date of enactment of this section.”

Not only does this provision appear to violate the constitutional #SeparationOfPowers, it also violates Senate rules. #Republicans are relying on a fast-track #legislative process known as budget #reconciliation to move the bill, which means everything in it must be related to #budget matters. Restricting #judges’ abilities to hand down #contempt orders has nothing to do w/budgets.
#Senate #Republicans almost certainly knew this when they stripped it from the bill. Leaving it in could lead to problems for passing the broader bill, which is #Trump’s signature domestic policy legislation ― a package that slashes nearly $1 trillion from #Medicaid & #FoodAssistance programs to pay for a massive #TaxCut for #rich people.

“Instead of celebrating together, he is languishing in #ICE #detention as punishment for his advocacy on behalf of his fellow #Palestinians,” she said in a stmnt. “It is unjust, it is shocking, & it is disgraceful.”
#MahmoudKhalil has previously disputed the notion that he omitted information on his application.
In a filing last week, he maintained he was never employed by or served as an “officer” of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees, as the admin claims, but completed an internship approved by the #university as part of his graduate studies.
